Anyone who decided to question Greg Romeus’ decision to go home to his family for “personal reasons” and missing the New Hampshire game — and excused by Coach Wannstedt — can officially feel like crap.
Romeus’ mother has been battling cancer. A battle she lost over the weekend. She passed away on Sunday. All sympathies and condolences to Greg Romeus and his family.
Back surgery. Getting back on the field for Pitt. His draft status. All of that seems rather meaningless by comparison.
I heard about this a few weeks ago. It is pretty neat that this was able to stay out of the media until after her passing. It is also great how coaches can protect a young man.

Maybe Pitt can wear pink shoes or something to honor all who have fought courageously against this disease and as a tribute to Greg’s mom. National audience this Thursday would be a nice way to make that statement and show of respect. My condolences go out to Greg, his family and Panther nation. I too think Pitt handled this very well in protecting this young man’s privacy.

Saying to wear pink, was it breast cancer?

We Ohio Panthers send our deepest sympathy to Greg Romeus and his family in the passing of Greg’s mother. We concur with the expressed thought of the blogs above. It is marvelous to see a good word about and from the Pitt family. We really do care about our players and we are ,indeed, FAMILY. Rev. George in Columbus

Wow, I feel bad that Greg’s senior year is turning out pretty crappy. Hopefully, things will get better and his mom will be with him in spirit to get him through this rough period. Condolences to his whole family.

Dion Lewis = Claude Harriott , Greg Romeus = David Abdul. High expectations…please don’t let 2003 be repeating itself.
Stay strong Greg, our thoughts are with you and your family.
