St. Ignatius showed a Michigan opponent why it’s the top-ranked football team in The Plain Dealer and in Division I when Inkster (Mich.) paid a visit Saturday evening for a nonleague game.

The defending state champion Wildcats, ranked No. 5 in the National Prep Top 25, remained unbeaten by taking a 21-0 first-quarter lead and never looking back for a 49-20 victory.

Junior running back Bobby Grebenc gaine 140 yards and scored four touchdowns and senior quarterback/Pitt recruit Mark Myers was close to perfect, clicking on 13 of 14 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns.

In fairness, Myers had pedestrian stats the past 2 weeks in close wins over Massilon and Warren Harding, but overall he has done very well

BETHLEHEM, Pa – Liberty senior quarterback Anthony Gonzalez rushed for 83 yards and passed for 143 yards in leading the Hurricanes to a 30-10 victory over city rival Bethlehem Catholic in a Lehigh Valley Conference showdown tonight at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium.

Gonzalez, who’s headed to Pittsburgh on a scholarship, completed 11 of 15 passes with three touchdowns, including scoring hook ups that covered 27 and 33 yards to Stanford-bound wideout Jarrod West.

So, just heard on the #1 Cochran Sports Showdown tonight that they were throwing around the idea in the press box today at the Steelers game that if Stull was the QB at OSU they would be undefeated and ranked #3 in the nation after this weekend. Thoughts anyone?

He has made quite a bit of progress this year, he can throw the deep ball better and is now throwing over the middle more.

Winning sure beats losing and we all know the past years we lost quite a few that we should have won. 6-1 is a great start, but we really havent played a superior opponent. I dont think we played against a ranked opponent yet. I know its not our fault who we play in conference, but the non conference schedule has been very weak. Nc State was probably a little better when the game was scheduled, but they are showing that they are not a good football team this year. Im just trying to hold back the excitement for a few more weeks. (My experience in following this team is showing). Im not saying we cant be in a BCS Bowl, but what place do you think we would be in if we were in the SEC or BIG 12? Just with those 2 conferences , Id say there would be at least 10 teams that would be favorites vs. Pitt should they be matched up.

Why is everyone complaining about our non-conference schedule?

Navy is a very respectable team, NC State is at least a BCS team.

Look at who are our next opponent and their oft-praised defense have played:

2 1AA teams, worst team in 1A, ‘cuse, a pretty bad FSU team (their signature win)….

And they got smoked by Cincy…. at home…. after Cincy lost their superstar QB in the 1st half…. in front of a jacked up, rare, near sellout crowd.

I live in Tampa, and I don’t see any USF fans talking about how they hadn’t played anybody yet, when heading into their Thursday nighter against the Bearcats, they hadn’t.

In fact, looking at the Sagarin ratings, I believe their strength of schedule is among the worst of all 1A teams (link to usatoday.com …. also note that PSUcks’ s.o.s. is not much better).

So, compared to a lot of teams, we’ve done well. And in conference, UConn and Rutgers were good wins, and we also kicked the crap out of a bad Louisville team, which is what good teams do against shitty ones.

So, if we’re fortunate enough to beat USF on Saturday (which I have my doubts about, because of the mobile QB and Pitt having a tendency to blow once they get recognition), what do we say then? That USF sucks, and we won’t know how good we are until we play Notre Dame… then WVU… then Cincy?

I think it’s all BS. At this point, we know who we are.

We’d probably be near the middle/bottom of the pack in the Big 12 south, but could possibly win the Big 12 north.

In the SEC, we’d probably be on the level of a South Carolina. A tad better than Arkansas and Ole Miss, and flat out better than Mississippi State, Kentucky, Vandy and Tennessee, but a small notch below Auburn at this point.

Oh wait, don’t let an SEC fan hear that I said a Big East team may be better than a couple teams in their conference. How dare someone talk like that about (cue thick southern accent) ESSSSS EEEEEEEE SEEEEEEEE FOOOOOTBAWWWWWWWWWLLLL!

Dugdog I have to believe OSU would be much better than they are. I don’t know if they would have beat USC, but I don’t think they would have lost to Purdue. Purdue sucks. As I posted earlier in the year Pryor is a great athlete, would be a fabulous WR. But, he is not a great QB and isn’t going to be.

Pitt ranked 10th in the country in the Warren-Nolan rankings…and the Big East is listed as 2nd best football conference in America behind the SEC ….
