This is a guy that lived in a hotel for his single year in Stillwater. A guy regularly pounding Red Bulls during games. A bachelor. A disciple of Mike Leach. A guy already with a reputation for enjoying the party a bit. Oh, and he works at a school that already employs Bob Huggins.
With all of that, does anyone really think that he is facing any real problems? Or is he simply trying to fit in?
Multiple sources told the Charleston Daily Mail Holgorsen was removed from Mardi Gras Casino & Resort after 3 a.m. May 18. Holgorsen had been at a Mountaineer Athletic Club function earlier in the day in Logan before spending the evening at the casino with other university representatives.
…
Holgorsen’s behavior allegedly reached a point that necessitated involvement from on-site security, sources said. Holgorsen was escorted out of the casino with the episode caught on surveillance. University representatives who were with Holgorsen were said to have then intervened. No arrest was made.
Police records indicate Metro 911 received a call from the casino at 3:13 a.m. that night. A “white male” was said to be “refusing to cooperate with the casino’s management.” Casino supervisors had the male detained at the time.
The Nitro Police Department was dispatched to the scene. The official records do not say what happened next, but it’s believed Holgorsen was released under the supervision of those he was with.
In other words, no charges filed.
Surprisingly, this actually has an impact. The Big East meetings canceled their last day of AD meetings because WVU AD Ollie Luck felt he needed to return to Morgantown to address this.
Unless there is more to the story than this, I doubt this does much more than burnish his party image. Maybe a wrist slap, but considering he was hand-picked by AD Luck, I don’t see too much more happening.
When Pitt was reportedly looking at Holgorsen, one spin after he went to WVU as Coach-in-Waiting was that Pitt was interested but his party rep had him nixed by Chancellor Nordenberg. While I am not sure about the veracity of the story, this incidence lends a veneer credence to it.
Orrville, home of Smuckers and (I believe) the next PSU BB coach
anyway, the link above does not show Pitt as a team of interest, however, being that he is drawing inteerst from the likes of Illinois and Wisconsin among others, I wouldn’t be surprised if Pitt had contacted him
Other than going to Big Ten, ACC, or Big East splitting, best idea I’ve seen yet!!! If were still going to be some conglomerate mess of a helter skelter league, can’t beat the West Point and Annapolis road trips!!!
No, no news, just that some feelers from Big East may be sent to them for football only membership.
Yes, they may decline, but, with a big payday coming next fall from t.v., and getting their football in a BCS, the generals and admirals will be doing some thinking!!!
I’ve said this for years about the service academies!!!! Goes back to the original Eastern football conference, that, they would have been members in, had Penn St and Pitt not had a pissy fit. Yes, both are too blame. “Oh, they did this”, “they did that”, they both blew it 30 years ago. Could you imagine today:
Pitt
Penn St
WVU
Syracuse
Boston College
Rutgers
UCONN
Army
Navy
Temple
Villanova
Holy cow, and Eastern football conference, with, holy sh#t, Eastern football schools, what a friggin’ novel idea!!!
Yes, I know UCONN and Villanova were not part of the original Eastern Independents, just saying, today.
For your twelvth?? Who knows, Notre Dame may have been scared into it back then, Virgina Tech, whatever, try to steal Maryland back then, who knows.
Yes, they both, and all others blew it!!!
Am I living in the past, yes, and it’s my right to choose to do so!!!! LOL!!!
Anyhow, would love to see the Academies, solely for the purpose of great road trips and great tailgating!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t worry, won’t happen, anything I like doesn’t happen. We’ll still be at 9 Football and 45 basketball schools in 2031!!!
Further, had an eaatern sports coinference formed, it would never had come close to what the BE BB conference has become .. not even close. Remember, aside from Syracuse, it was the non-football schools that was responsible for building BE BB into what it now is. Georgetown, Nova, St John’s, Providence (and Cuse) all made the Final 4 at least once in the 80s and were pricipally responsible for being recognized as a major player.
I said, “living in the past”, and how both Pitt and Penn St, and whoever was involved all blew it. You always hear different stories, bunk on that, they all blew it.
You always hear about how people in high positions, are real thinkers, see the big picture, and really look into the future. Steve Pederson is a “visionary”, they used to say. Not back then, and, why, today, always look at people in big positions, not as God’s, just guys that have jobs. Hopefully they do a good job and that’s all you can hope for.
There were no visionaries back then, and if someone lays blame on one group, they are incorrect, visionaries would have handled it together.
They would have just been a little group of 5 or 6 schools that could play hoops. Would have never morphed into what it is now.
I also believe the hoops could have been very good, and, more to the point, we would have had and Eastern football conference, that would have rivaled, if not better, at times, the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12. Don’t think anyone will ever touch the SEC, but, the Eastern football conference would not be a laughing stock, and the butt of jokes, would have been a major player.
Again, just thinking about the past, that’s all, that was effed up years ago, never to be.
Hopefully they put something together, and, at the very least, hearing about the academies, at least shows me they are thinking, at least a little bit.
The only school in there(your Eastern League) that has a national reputation is State Penn. And State Penn over the last 20 years, is not the same State Penn that it was from 1967 to 1987. The last 20 year version of State Penn wouldn’t have made that much of a difference in the nations regard of your Eastern League. Having a team with a much bigger national image over the last 20 years in football, that being Miami, certainly didn’t do a whole lot for the Big East’s national image in football. And we had Va Tech as well, which over the last 20 years has also been better than anyone in your Eastern League. The BigEast with Miami, Va Tech & BC was a very good league and if you still had those 3 schools and you add a TCU to the mix, then you have:
Miami
Virginia Tech
TCU
PITT
WVU
Boston College
UConn
Louisville
Cincinnati
USF
Rutgers
Syracuse
You have your 12 teams to split into two 6 team division, which leads to a Big East Championship game and another big Payday for the League.
Losing Miami, VT & BC was a bigger blunder for a
very good Eastern League(the Big East), than the cat fight between PITT & State Penn that stopped the Eastern League from ever forming. IMHO
Also, with the cohesiveness of a true conference, would have lifted everyone up, IMHO.
You are correct about the loss of Miami and Va.Tech.
Just always been my wish. A real conference, and geographically correct. Hey, just my own personal preference. Think they would have held up.
Moot point though, just fun to talk about in the down time of college football.
Hey, you’re on here, and I’ve gotten to know you a bit from here.
What is your guess, not what you want to happen, what will the Big East look like Sept. 2012.
I say, same as it is now, with Villanova having been offered, and accepting, for a few years down the road.
Your thoughts??
Don’t get mad at us Chas’, just bs’ing the time away till Sept!!! LOL
I am looking forward to TCU, and hoping Pitt, WVU, and TCU can have some real barnburners that actually matters nationally.
Yes,….yes…. I see a young local running back from Hopewell rushing for an incredible 303 yards against Notre Dame and then I see…. a year or two later, Pitt wins the National Championship with an undefeated record.
Oh wait a minute, I had this Crystal Ball in ‘The Past’ mode.
Oh, there we go….’The Future’ mode…..the first Saturday in Sept., 2012. I see Pitt playing a team with a ‘V’ on it’s helmets. Is it the ‘Visitors’? No……They have a very small contingent of fans in the visitor section of Heinz Field, like maybe 100 people, including their 20 member band. I can hear some of them speaking, they mostly seem to have Philly accents, yes…one is even criticizing the cheese steak at Heinz. Seems to be a lot of whining & criticizing of their own team. I can see ,,,,yes a button on one, saying Nova. It’s Villanova playing Pitt on the first Saturday in Sept., 2012.
But rest easy….it’s a non-conference game !
USF, Cincy, L-ville, UCF, Memphis, Villanova, Army,
Navy, TCU & ECU. (conference has now been de-certified as an Automatic Qualifier)
Pitt & Uconn have accepted offers from the Big 10.
(after Diaper Joe finally meets his maker)
WVU & Syracuse have accepted offers from the ACC.
Rutgers decides to take Villanova’s Division 2 spot in the Colonial League.
It will probably look identical to what it looks like now. Unless ND & BYU want to join. If they do, add those two to the present mix. The likely hood of both of those two joining is currently running at 99.99999999999999999999% against.
So that means, it will probably happen. lol
Holgorsen Photographed Burning Couch After 1st Victory
Mad Hoopie Love…LOL
Hail to Pitt
He might be a great offensive mind but his judgement is very questionable. This guy has plenty of issues, he could be the second coming of Billy Gillespie.
He will fit in well with the hoopie culture but he will wear out his welcome over time with the powers in Morganhole.
