8pm, ABC
To go from 90+ degrees for a good portion of the week to 50s-60s with rain expected today. That’s something.
I suppose the rain might, um, dampen the eagerness for some to get to the stadium to tailgate early. Potentially making the expected traffic snarls a little less immediate. Who knows, maybe the Pirates will be rained out. Of course, knowing ALCO they would still keep people from the lots until 5pm and have the Pittsburgh Police enforce the no tailgating between 1:30 and 5 rule.
Last Pitt night game I attended, where it rained was the one in Akron. It’s taken three years for my daughter to have any interest in attending another game (she’s coming with me to the Duke game in October). Hopefully, Pitt comes out with a win tonight as well.
Not sure how this game plays out. Other then sloppily.
Both teams still have plenty of questions. It’s cliche, but still true.
PSU surviving against App State was either a “wake-up call” or a klaxon going off that there are some problems on what is a young but very talented team.
Pitt warmed up against a middling, 1-AA program. The secondary gave up yards, but not points. Offensively, the second half either was them taking the foot off the gas; or being stymied by some halftime adjustments by Albany. Hopefully the former, but a little of the latter could have been mixed into the stew.
I’m excited for the game, though. A night atmosphere. Big game. Bragging rights over my parents are at stake.
Grilling up flank steak sandwiches for today. Steak’s been marinating for a day. Some fresh tomatoes, onions, peppers (green, jalepeno and super-hot) from the garden. Melt the provolone on the bun that is lightly toasted.
Beat State.
Hail to Pitt!
All aboard the NARDUZZI Train!
The only hope is although Town has traveled to 3 schools, like Savage, hire a psychologist and a QB coach which Pitt desperately needs, and hope the talent that got him rated among the top 3 QB’s at USC and #2 at 2015 elite QB camp.
Despite the weather conditions it was obvious again that Pickett can run to escape a collapsed pocket but can not throw beyond 20 yards with any accuracy. Simply look at him on the field and he look a boy among men.
Narduzzi should be on a thread. Hire the coach at Troy , young, dynamic, looking for a step to a HC job in SEC. Lets give him the chance.
Instead of worrying about coaching he looked like a high school guy yelling at the refs and got flagged for it. Big F-ing deal, he looked stupid .
Out coached
Out played. Both lines were terrible. No QB protection. No rushing of the PSU QB.
No special teams at all, both kickers were terrible. The punter looked as if he never played the position, I believe he hasn’t.
14 penalties for real. That’s a result of very poor coaching.
The strength and conditioning coach running up and down on the sideline looking like a complete ass yelling at the refs. Crap like that does nothing but cause confusion.
Pickett is still a good QB but has no offensive line to block for him.
The recruiting is terrible and it shows.
Lucky if they win 4 or 5 games.
The AD signed this guy a contract extension last year and we are now stuck with assistant coach material.
As witnessed by his long pass attempt last night, an easy interception at the Pitt goal line he does not have D1 arm strength or size.
Pitt has no choice but too play Town top QB who has made personal errors by being unwilling to wait his turn at USC, and Arkansas (big time programs) that would not offer a sclarship to Pickett.
Remember his history top 5 QB in 1995 H.S. #2 QB at elite QB camp in 95 behind starting QB at Alabama.
Tell him it’s his job he need not look behind about another 5* QB coming into the program. Assure him to let his physical skills take over and not worry about making any errors, because behind him are 3 qb’S THAT WILL BE TRANSFERRING OUT OF THE PROGRAM NEXT YEAR. It’s his job for 2 years if he grabs it.
Also he must remember not to get frustrated because of the talent he is working with, this is Pitt, not Alabama, USC, or Arkansas. So mistakes come with the territory.
The offensive line provided no protection to the QB. Pickett had no confidence and had to run for his life on most of the pass plays.
PSU QB had all day to throw the ball.
This whole mess is at the feet of the head coach. Head coach he is not.
This game showed several things, First our special teams were atrocious – the Aussie with bad holds, fumbles etc led to a 20 point swing. That was too much to overcome. Doesn’t it rain down under? Kickoffs sucked to and return game as well. Simply but a butt kicking in special teams. The problems didn’t stop there.
The offense was atrocious as well but I lay that on Watson more than Pickett who was only allowed one pass attempt of more than 10 yards and that was intercepted. The 4th and 3 call showed absolutely no imagination. That was the ball game. Due to bad field possession and a fear to throw in the rain Pitt;s offense ground to a halt in the second half – PedState could put 11 in the box and doing that a single back offense and not throwing long spelled failure. So many three and outs left the defense on the field too long.
This team was ultimately let down by Narduzzi and his staff. Heck the players even blew the coin flip. Ugh.
Anytime you want to see Pitt lose by 30 or more, just have them play on national TV and bring in all old Pitt greats to the game.If I was a betting man…
How’s that for advice?
