In theory I should be posting a ton of stuff this week. It’s Pitt-Penn State. Everyone’s hyped, or at least pretending they aren’t. Or something. I lose track.
The reality is that between a short work week, but still having to fit a normal week of work into it; and wanting to make sure that everything is done to be sure there is no bleeping way I can get called about something this weekend. Well… It’s been hard to get some time to write.
Guess it’s time for a few quickies.
Parking.
Short answer. Everyone is boned.
I did a twitter rant on this the other day, on the hot take of how Pitt fans complaining about the tailgate limitations are just a bunch of assholes who don’t want to be inconvenienced in getting drunk. I’m not going to repeat it (today).
The fact is, that even if you just want to attend the game, it is going to be a complete and utter logistical nightmare. Even people that do “just want to go to the game” are probably going to struggle to get there in time for kickoff.
I don’t have a good answer for you. I’m lucky enough that one of my group lives on the Northside, so I will park away from it all and walk over in due time. Sorry. Not sorry.
Coaches avoid stirring things up as much as possible.
Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi and PSU head coach James Franklin really don’t want to give bulletin board material. Both did, to the fans at least.
Franklin tied himself in verbal knots explaining how it’s a big game, but only because every game is a big game. And so it’s the Super Bowl, because every game should be treated like the Super Bowl… Yada, yada, yada.
Meanwhile Narduzzi calls it the big, rivalry game as expected. Nothing inflammatory. Even cut back on some of the “One Voice” junk. But, don’t worry, Penn State fans found their offense. After heaping praise on vaious other PSU players that Pitt recruited but did not land he was asked about Lamont Wade. Wade doesn’t start and hasn’t really gotten on the field much. And he made that observation.
Yay. Everyone can be aggrieved and disrespected.
No One Picks Pitt.
It isn’t that people aren’t willing to entertain the notion. Heavens no. Hell, many will hedge and say that it won’t be a shock if Pitt wins. But…
PennLive.com has a list of writers — their own and others pick the game. None picked Pitt.
Over at the Athletic, Stewart Mandel and Bruce Feldman stick with PSU.
SM:
No. 13 Penn State at Pitt (+8.5) | 8 p.m. ET, ABC
Penn State sure gave its fans a scare against Appalachian State. This week, the Nittany Lions turn around and … do it again. Trace McSorley is a steadying presence, but this Penn State team is still young and inexperienced and might need more time to work out some kinks. Penn State 35, Pittsburgh 31
and BF:
No. 13 Penn State (-8.5) at Pitt | 8 p.m. ET, ABC
The Nittany Lions had their hands full with App State until Trace McSorley bailed them out. The middle of the PSU defense is suspect, but I suspect McSorley and that offense will be too much for the Panthers. Penn State 31, Pittsburgh 20
I’m not at all upset that Pitt is not picked by anyone. And just a hunch. Narduzzi and the coaching staff are kind of happy, as well.
heard it here first
PSU is a Preseason overrated
Stop Sanders and their done.
Students will last until the end of the first quarter, no rain gear.
The rest of the crowd will start to leave after the first half.
By the 4 quarter the place will be empty except for the crazy Penn State fans who will be celebrating.
Hall of fame ceremony will be a bust because of the rain.
Bands wont be allowed to march for fear of damaging the grass on the field.
I just may stay home and watch…..
