Curtis Aiken is one of Pitt basketball’s great players. He is also an color analyst for Pitt. His son, Curtis Aiken, Jr., had been a rising junior. As a junior he was considered a 3-star recuit.
A knee injury hindered his senior year, and he fell off the radar, and isn’t ranked by some sites. That said, he still had offers from TCU (yes, we know) and Tennessee. He had also taken an unofficial visit to Arizona (uh-huh).
Aiken, Jr., though, has decided to stay home and play for Pitt.
North Allegheny guard Curtis Aiken Jr., who averaged 17.9 points while playing much of the season on an injured knee, announced Thursday night on Twitter he will enroll at Pitt and join the basketball team. He will enter as a preferred walk-on.
Aiken, the son of former Pitt guard and current radio analyst Curtis Aiken, has played on North Allegheny’s varsity for the past four seasons. He averaged 19.1 points as a junior and sophomore and 7.9 as a freshman.
It wouldn’t have harmed Men’s Basketball Coach Jeff Capel if he didn’t land Aiken, Jr., but it sure would have caused a bit of teeth gnashing among fans to have him go elsewhere
The added bonus of Aiken, Jr. not taking a scholarship is nice. It’s a safe bet he will redshirt this season.
