I’m rationalizing attending the Rice-Pitt game on Yom Kippur as its own form of atonement after what Pitt has done for the first 4 games.
This is a family game for me. My sister did her graduate and doctorate work at Rice (applied mathematics, and yes, she’s the smart one in the family) and her husband has a masters from the school. They still live in Houston, and my parents moved down there a few years ago. They were fine during the hurricane and flooding, if you are wondering.
Pitt needs this game. Both as a win and something of a tonic. No one is expecting a loss, but another struggle would be a disaster. Whether Head Coach Pat Narduzzi would admit it or not.
This is a late happening scrimmage for Pitt. Trying to figure out what they have at certain positions (QB) and how good or bad things really are (secondary and O-line).
Expect a lot of substitutions and shuffling of players today.
Before you get TOO EXUBERANT over Browne or Narduzzi putting up a Win… keep in mind that Rice is a HORRIBLE Football Team.
Only thing worse… Pitt’s Uniforms. Who is this Team?
What I saw was a coaching staff not stubbornly running into a defense stacked to stop the run and throwing the ball all over the field. Good decision.
A question of time as to when the 2 back up QB’s will leave the team. McVitte is playing a position”s2
This is not a good football team. Syracuse will run all over them next week.
Dinucci would have to go to a MAC or subdivision school to play and he would still have to fight for his job. This was a kid about to go to Penn but changed his mind the last minute. I doubt he goes anywhere. He gave up Ivy League dreams to be a backup at Pitt. He knew the deal.
MacVittie is eligible to play so they’re getting him on the field because he’s an athlete. No different than Rutherford playing WR while waiting his turn. MacVittie only had 1 year of HS experience. He shouldn’t be our starting QB yet. He’ll get his first real chance to compete next spring and summer.
McVittie was recruited as a QB b/c of talent and potential. You get your best athletes on the field. That’s what Pitt is doing this season with McVittie. He’s done redshirting. He can play and he’ll compete next season for the starting QB spot. He may lose but he’ll be in the competition.
I’m not sure what you’re arguing? I simply told you that Nooch wouldn’t transfer and why … and why McVittie is playing.
We always seem to be picking players with “talent and potential” and never see anything happen. You either have it or you don’t. This is why Pitt is a doormat in the ACC and will continue to be. We will be having this same conversation next year at this time. Penn State, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech will be losses again.
This program should be heading upward this year and there is no sign of that happening so far. Next year will be like starting all over again trying to pick a QB. Pitt should be putting their best players out there regardless if they are freshmen or not. They have a new freshman QB on the team, when will decide to use him, in his junior year? This total confusion related to quarterbacks is sending a bad message to any prospect. “Don’t go to Pitt, they don’t have a plan for you”. I would not be surprised if we don’t take another transfer next year.
Nick Patti from New Jersey is a committed recruit for 2018. Nick has offers from Albany, BC, Cinn., Columbia, Dartmouth, Temple, Rutgers, Toledo and Yale among other lower level colleges. Sounds like another “Diamond in the rough”. LOL. In the words of a second rate coach “our goal is to win championships”. Not sure where but it will not happen in the ACC.
I have been going to Pitt games for over 50 years and have seen some unbelievable college football and some very lean periods, this is a lean period.
PS. Virginia Tech is still ranked this week and will most likely beat the hell out of Pitt. Not being a smart ass but where is Pitt ranked this week?
