In the last week, Pitt hasn’t looked… horrible.
It’s damning with faint praise when the media notes tries to spin positive road losses at UNC and Duke by a combined 10 points, but when you are harnessed to an 8-game losing streak and yet to win on the road in the ACC, you take what you can get.
The thing with a good, bad team like Pitt is this year. You don’t know anything about the team from game-to-game. Effort, energy, streakiness… It’s all a question mark. Did they play up to their opponents in the last week? Will they have a complete letdown in effort against a team like BC?
I have no idea. I’m guessing the coaches don’t either.
Pitt shot 2-14 on threes against Duke. The game before, 13-29. From game-to-game, there is no predicting how this team will do. Where it will excel. Where it will look like it never practices that aspect. The only thing that has been consistent over the last 3 weeks or so is that Pitt is on the short end of the scoreboard.
BC is riding its own 7-game losing streak. Despite a 9-15 overall record, Pitt is still looking up at them in the standings.
BC likes to play up-tempo. Not particularly well, but up-tempo. Their offense is not very efficient, so the pace of play gives them more opportunities. It’s a turnover-prone team facing a team that doesn’t force turnovers. They take a lot of 3s. Basically, like the Duke game, it could very well come down to which team is connecting from outside the arc. Like Pitt, they aren’t very good on the offensive glass.
I’ve reached the point that the fact that this game is a toss-up just makes me laugh rather than get depressed.
The game tonight decides the basement of the ACC. Their overall record would be tied at. So, fingers crossed.
THIS TEAM NEEDS TO RUN & GUN.
Hit the caps lock by accident. I’ll leave well enough alone.
Beat BC, please…
What to Watch for Against Pitt:
A. Possible Turnover Reprieve?: Pitt is the worst team in the ACC in terms of forcing turnovers. While BC was able to limit the turnovers in the first half against Louisville, playing against a team that isn’t known for exploiting one BC’s biggest faults could work out for the Eagles.
B. Bring Back the Three Point Game: As I predicted was going to happen last game, BC struggled to find its stroke from three point range. Pittsburgh is a lot easier to score on from three point range, so look for the Eagles to exploit that.
C. Hosting a Weak Team At Home: This might be the Eagles’ last decent chance at an ACC win. The schedule only gets harder from here.
LOL – how far down Barney and Stallings have taken down Pitt.
No where to go but UP.
Ole Artis looks to be in some serious pain. He torqued that ankle pretty good. Probably tore some ligaments at the very least.
Pitt down 8 to BC – but Stallings has all his TO’s.
Play Nix and be done with it. He’ll get us ten bounds for sure. And he hustles..
Put Nix in to start the 2nd half.
Young carried us with a little help from Kitcart in that 1st half.
We call this sport basketball?
What does that say?
Pitt is struggling to score – how long will the no-basket run last tonight?
Stay tuned…
Watch out Syracuse.
Unfortunately, I’m now blind!
Pitt could build a competitive team around Lex and Slim, for sure with a center and PG coming in that look serviceable.
A win with contributions from more than just two…
We might put ourselves back on the bubble!, and I’m not even kidding!!
The schedule has us primed for some upsets!
NCAA’ s here we come!!!
🙂
