Stallings Gets First Verbal

A point guard for the 2017 class.

Aaron Thompson is considered a 4-star recruit by Scout and ESPN. Rivals and 247 say 3-star. He’s out of Fairfax, Virginia and also had offers from Miami, GT, Temple, Dayton, SMU, VT and PSU.

Stallings had been recruiting him at Vandy so there was a relationship there.

He fell just outside the Scout top-100 for the 2017 class back in February.

Finding true point guards isn’t easy, and Aaron Thompson is definitely one of them. He has grown to be almost 6-foot-3 and has gotten stronger and more athletic in the past 12 months. Add in that he is a very good passer with a solid understanding of the game, and it is easy to see why college coaches are so excited about his future.

Still we felt he was a bit better on the outside of the top 100 as opposed to in it because he can struggle badly shooting the basketball. He needs to make himself more of a threat in that regard while continuing to run a team and getting others involved at the level he currently does.

247 considers him about 143 in overall national ranking of players. His defensive ability is considered to be excellent.

Interesting to have point guards in three straight classes. But all three have different strengths. Kithcart is more of an attacker and score off the dribble point guard. Great speed and quickness. Wilson is a better perimeter shooter. Thompson is has the passing and defense.

Wow! Maybe this new coach can prove himself to me. It’s a start. A 4 star.

Very good 1st move for the new coach!
Keep winning us over with recruiting, coach, and we will all love you!

Excellent start! Now go get those big guys.

Hmmm….how badly can a player struggle shooting and still be a four star recruit?

Hope it’s something that can be easily tweeked or corrected in his shot. In the ACC you need a point guard that can create and score. I like this get and the offers that have been extended.

Agree with gc about getting those bigs…

Thanks Chas. Looks like with some work on his shooting, Aaron Thompson has excellent potential…

Go Pitt.

Nice start on the next class. Appears we are in good shape
with guards….now find talented front line players. With
Young, Artis, and Jeter leaving after next season the ’17 class
is critical

Good start.

JD was/is a good coach and better person … I really think his downfall here had much to do with the loyalty he had with some assistants who didn’t produce as recruiters ….. just my 2 cents.

BTW, he just recruited his first big catch at TCU, which hired a super recruiter from LSU .. this is what JD needed, a Slice type

OK…some good news. Before we drive the nails through Stalling’s hands let’s take a deep breath and see how he performs. A few Basketball guys are saying good things.I’ll listen to them before the great unwashed.

I’ll give the guy 3 years…then I don’t renew my tix (maybe 2). If the team this year comes out not ready to play my plans will change. HTP

Love it. Known as a recruiter. Has hired assistants known as recruiters.

Good start coach!

Joseph Nardone (who?) looks like he’s 23 years old…and just another idiot living in Dixon’s past. I doubt if this clown is old enough to shave yet. And I doubt if he’s seen more than 3 Pitt games in the last 4 years.

I agree with getting the bigs its time for pitt to get a 6’10 or 7ft guy we haven’t had one of those type bigs in awhile.
