I’m off to a cabin by the water to go on a three day “Writers’ Retreat” with my amazingly talented daughter. I will be secluded so that I can actually do more of my ‘other’ writing project and not just sit around thinking and talking about it.
I am prepared to have my work totally eclipsed by whatever my daughter does with her artistic ability. Plus I can drink during the daytime if needed without the Boss seeing me.
Here is a parting article to give you some small things to talk about…
Post-Gazette Pitt Football Overview (P-G)
Football Stats from 2015 (P-G)
Luke Getsy rises in the NFL coaching ranks (Trib):
13 local players in NFL combine (Trib):
Here is an interesting take on the first PSU QB since Kerry Collins to have any NFL interest at all… (Pennlive):
I saved the best for last. Here is an article from the Pitt News reviewing a local (Sewickly, go figure) author’s book about the gayity of football. Yes, you read that correctly.
This is a subject which we on the Blather have known for ages. That is that anyone on the other Pitt blogs and message boards who played organized football is much less hetero and manly than those that did.
Except for the readers of the Pitt Blather who played football – they are as manly and hetero as wbb or even PoD… but not as much as the writers on here. That is too a high bar to jump.
This is my favorite part.
Watching men watch men in tight spandex lightly spank each other for support before they head in for a group shower does make me think there’s something innately homoerotic happening. But Kichi said it’s all a ruse so men can prove they’re straight by acting gay and not getting turned on.
A bit confusing but that’s OK, it is, after all, a student newspaper and a Sewickly author.
But wait! There’s more!
“But then I have to ask, prove to who?” Said Emily Deering Crosby, a visiting instructor in Pitt’s Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies program. Crosby, who focuses mainly on gender and race, has also written about double-bind rhetoric in sports culture.“Gender is the process of becoming,”
Crosby said, adding that as we grow up, we’re taught to reaffirm our gender over and over again. For self-identified men, growing up often means shedding any trace of femininity or homosexuality — two characteristics many people mistakenly associate.
“By high school, [young men are] completely isolated from each other,” Crosby said, adding that they’ve become repressed and angry — and what better place to take out that identity confusion than on the football field?”
“The process of becoming”… everyone get that OK? No clarification needed with that phrase is there Ms Fancy Pants Hopefully Not Tenured Pitt Professor?
To all of that I say Pitt has changed in some many beautiful ways since the mid-1970’s and the fact that they have this class is directly connected to the crappy football teams we have fielded since then.
I’m not saying those study areas are a bad thing – in this day and age they might be 100% necessary, I just think Pitt sucks at football and this is the reason. So I’m taking back everything negative I have ever said about Walt Harris, Wannstedt, Pederson, Graham and Paul Chryst because it really wasn’t their fault. Sorry guys!
Honestly, seeing books like drivel that being published makes me think I’ll outsell Stephen King.
See you on all on Friday….
PS Remember, It’s Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve:>)
What a bunch of BS!
Reed, anytime you get to spend with your daughter is priceless. I leave you with a quote from Shakespeare
“Brevity is the soul of wit”!
Just jaggin’ ya, Reed. Good luck!
The percentage of the population commonly believed to be homosexual/bisexual (they’ve done surveys on it): 20-25%
The actual percentage of self-identified homosexuals: 2-4%
The actual percentage of self-identified bisexuals: less than 1%
Tying football and male bonding in sports to homosexuality is a deliberate attempt to demean and emasculate heterosexual men and conventional standards of manliness. Those cavemen homophobes are actually homos themselves! That will surely twist their bigoted minds in knots.
Football and sports in general (and manliness as well) have nothing to do with homosexuality or heterosexuality, there’s plenty of gay men with honor, fortitude, great physiques, etc., and plenty of “90-pound weakling” (although these days it’s more like 250-pound weakling) wimpy straight guys with no good character or honor in them. All this pigeonholing has agendas behind it and completely misses the incredible complexity and range of difference in the human race.
Query (no weird homophone intended) – if football were homoerotic, would an OCS be more or less likely?
H2P!!!
Much bigger issue than gays playing football or gays fantasizing about gays playing football.
Sexual Harassment and Rape on campus by football players.
Maybe Louisville did have the answer, pay for hookers. nlol
Time to get back to sports. Looking forward to the Louisville game, and hoping (maybe wishful thinking) that we get our mojo back.
Now let’s hope the ref’s get the ACC memo
There, I said it.
Both will make the big dance and UPitt will be happy for Archie’s Dayton Flyers.
When PITT makes the big dance, happy will not be the description of choice…
Hail to Pitt!
Note to Pitt Athletic Department – Please let Reed watch football practices – ever since the ban he’s lost his laser focus and now he’s going off the rails.
Go Pitt.
Isn’t it great to be in America where you don’t have to pass an intelligence test to have an opinion!I wonder if they have classes like this at NC for all their athletes.
Is there really any right direction or even diverse direction any longer?
What the hell an I talking about.
This is a weird thread…..thanks Reed.
computer. Instead, we get to watch E Carolina Tulane.
H2P!
Who doesn’t hope for a new start AND anus tart every frickin’ day.

What are ya gonna do to me tonight??
H2P!!!
Maybe Louisville will experience some Arrested Development tonight.
Naa – no way!
The arena would be packed with Pitt fans – that I can guarantee.
StubHub currently has tickets for all 3 sessions in Brooklyn ranging from $245 to $2660.
The start of every match had me on the “refuse to participate side” when wrestling was what they wanted to do in gym class.
The “you get on all fours and you get behind him” that seems gay to me.
Pittsburgh is projected to land somewhere between a No. 7 and 10 seed. The Panthers will be one of the most dangerous second-round matchups for No. 1 and 2 seeds, largely due to their ability to crash the boards. Giant Killers (Insider)
Before you laugh at the statement above, it is from ESPN page:

Giant Killers? We’ve never in NCAA Tournament history beaten a higher seeded team…..not once. If we get that monkey off our backs this March it will be a first.

Don’t get me wrong, loved the Syracuse win and love the fact that we own their ass.
However, I’ve seen this movie before. Don’t even have to beat them both for me…….
just win one of the next two…then I’ll start getting a little giddy!
