2pm at the Pete.
ESPN3 or plenty of RSN options including Root Sports Pittsburgh, Fox Sports South, Fox Sports North, YES and NESN.
BC is not a good team. That doesn’t mean they can’t give Pitt some fits, but they are exceptionally bad on offense. They might give Pitt some problems with a decent defense, but I expect the Pitt players to be looking for some blood after Thursday.
The dead period of college football recruiting is over and there are plenty of verbals and potential verbals on campus for this game.
Miami and UVA with very tough D’s are included in that tough 7 game stretch. UVA just lost to FL State.
And Bob….you may want to have a few months of posts on here before you come out and excoriate a long standing poster here.
Welcome to the board BTW….
Bob, I don’t know you. One thing you don’t do is start bad-mouthing someone who has been commenting here for a long time. I’ve had my disagreements with Emel, but I respect him. Based on your comments, I don’t respect you.
H2P!
Don’t let that inhibit your posts. It’s part of the Blather banter that is normal interaction, more civil here usually than on most other fan chat boards in fact. The only people that the Pitt Blather administrators have an obvious issues with are the trolls that consistently attempt to disrupt the rational dialogue that is the norm here. So if you’re not a troll, you’re good.
Then I wrote that the two subjects that were mentioned most often to me on that score were Voytik v Peterman and the continual jumping on Tino Sunseri and his time at Pitt.
That was when Emel said “How about this Reed, you and those 50 people… won’t have this poster to worry about” or something to that effect. It wasn’t Bob or anyone else. It was me and my comment that pissed him off so much he felt he had to leave.
But Bob – I will chime in with this; this blog is NOT like the message boards or other sports blogs you may read and comment on where sniping and insults are regularly traded. The tone here is overwhelmingly civil with some heated arguments but those are always grounded in respect for the other poster… 99% of the time.
You may not know this but the readership on The Pitt Blather is off the charts as is the amount of comments we regularly get on each article posted. Because of that I remind everyone that what they write and say on here isn’t for a small niche blog but is widely read both nationwide and international. We have had articles on here with 500,000+ times being read… far more than any other Pitt-centric blog.
So, with all that we understand that we “Blatherites” truly represent a largely populated segment of the Pitt fan base and our thoughts and opinions are widely read by the public, others in the college football and basketball media outlets and by the principals in the football program and in the admin of the university…and, yes, I know this 1st hand. So we take pains to think twice before we write something so that it makes sense and draws others in as commenters (of which we have a ton.)
I think that is what the posters on here are talking about above when they responded to your approach with Emel. Understand that Emel’s leaving is not your fault but you did come on like gangbusters and posted some pretty negative stuff when no one on here knows you at all. Don’t take this the wrong way but it smacked of the negative stuff on the message board which most of us left long ago.
Stick around, chip in when you feel like it – you know your football stuff and that is what we like to have on here. Posters who read others opinions and respond with thought out and civil remarks are the ones we really pay attention to and use their opinions and knowledge to form our own comments presented back to them.
Welcome aboard.
Reed, how is the book coming? Thank’s for sharing your perspective to Bob. It is gratifying to know that we have such great readership. We need more contributors to the conversation. It is good to know that there is a larger fan base out there that have an interest in Pitt Sports. Also good to know that people on the inside are interested in what Pitt Fans think.
I think the most important thing is that we care, and although our opinions range from the most positive in Dr. Tom to the most negative in UPitt, we all want Pitt to win and it matters to us. For the most part we treat each other with respect and good humor, because we are all Pitt Fans.
We have all gone through some good times and way to many bad times. We are all hopeful that there are good times ahead.
Dr. Tom – the book is coming along well, I’m still in the research, outlining and reviewing chapter by chapter phase but I’m having fun with it. Very raw drafts at this point but starting to take shape. The crazed serial killer is a disgraced surgeon named “Dr. Thomas”… weird coincidence, huh?
My New Year’s resolution to go to the gym everyday is cutting into my allotted time for writing though… plus I’m trying to keep you guys somewhat in tune with FB still.
I cheer for him as a “Pitt guy” in the NFL.
However, I don’t think his jersey should have been retired.
Getting your jersey retired, to me, means being hear a while too. 4 years and a degree, or with kids jumping to the NFL, at least 3.
I know, I know, where do you draw the line, if you say 3 years, why can’t you say 2 years.
I don’t know, just my thoughts, need to be at a place longer than 2 years to get your number retired.
Just my thoughts.
Went with my nieces husband (a former Duquesne wrestler) to the Fitzgerald Field House yesterday to watch #18 Pitt vs. #5 Oklahoma State wrestling match.
A little breakfast on the Southside, and ran up to the Field House.
We did not fare to well, but the guys were in most of the matches.
The Oklahoma’s and Iowa’s (including both “State” uni’s are on another level when it comes to wrestling.
Very enjoyable though. I was surprised, I would bet there was close to 1000 people at the match.
I thought we were gonna be there with 50 other people or something.
Anyway, nice day supporting the team.
Plus, I had bananas’s foster crepes for breakfast!!!
My assumption is that a lot of people have given up their season tickets because of the last few years and especially last year’s performance. Because there are donations tied in with the best seats a lot of them are empty.
I also think that the change in conference has had an impact. We have not built up the hatred we had for UConn, Georgetown, Villanova etc.
Have not seen a packed house this year and may not, which is really a shame. Barnes has work to do.
Next year’s Football schedule will not fill many seats either with the exception of PSU.
Unfortunately Pittsburgh Fans only show up for great teams playing in big events.
This is a totally new experience for Jamie and Pitt Fans. We have a team that will win with scoring and not defense. In our two losses we have seen what happens when we can’t score.
Scoring is a lot more difficult on the road, where we used to win with tough D, now we have to hit threes. Welcome to the ACC.
I want to see Odoba and Jeter blocking Barber’s shots when he gets past Robinson.
Their big men were a problem in the second game last year. I hope we have an answer.
Is the NCSt game televised?
I can only find an ESPN3 listing.
Looks like I will have to watch on ESPN3.
Cut it out Reed….you’re blowing the plot for us! 😉
Larry got his jersey retired, but all I will remember is how loudly Pederson was booed. Now that was special.
