Good Luck To Tyler Boyd

It should not be a shock that Tyler Boyd declared for the draft. He is that good, and barring injuries should have a successful NFL career.

Whether he goes in the first or second round is up for debate, but I don’t see how his draft stock will really rise any further if he came back. The only seeming knock on Boyd is that he lacks “elite” speed, so that won’t change. All the other stuff he possesses, he has shown in spades in the past three seasons.

— Hands. Yep.

— Great route running. Check.

— Very versatile — able to stretch the field or play in the slot. Hell, yeah.

— Constantly successful against opposing teams’ best corner and facing double teams. Very much so.

If Boyd had chosen to stay, he would be dealing with a third offensive coordinator in four years. No matter what promises Head Coach Pat Narduzzi could have made him, there just would have been no guarantees. It’s not like he could be showcased that much more.

To say nothing of the risk of injury — even with an insurance contract.

I wish him and his family nothing but the best, and only hope that he finds the time down the road to finish his education to get that degree from Pitt.

Why the love-fest with Foster?
He went elsewhere…move on.
As Jim-nose picker-Boeheim said: half of 5-star kids never pan out. Shell, for example

Comment by Gas 01.02.16 @ 2:30 pm

Yep UPitt….I hope they keep Franklinstein for several more years. PSU getting Herman would be a nightmare for Pitt. A coach who can both recruit AND coach.

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 2:31 pm

Dropped a TD pass Doc with 2 mins left doesnt exactly help
us win. Chad threw a perfect ball. A play before he kicked a player on the ground. So his head was not in the game. Yes other reasons we lost namely House and awful special teams and defense but if he catches that ball we win.

Comment by Upittbaseball 01.02.16 @ 2:33 pm

Starting to love James – how hot is your wife -Franklin.
Hiring him has been like a gift.
Hope he stays in that culturally devoid abyss forever.

Comment by Gas 01.02.16 @ 2:34 pm

Im sorry we can’t pull for anyone unless they went to Pitt. Even if they are from Pittsburgh. Some of you people amaze me.

Comment by Upittbaseball 01.02.16 @ 2:35 pm

Is it too late to change my handle to Oh How I Hate ped st?

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 2:36 pm

Run the ball Georgia!!!!

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 2:38 pm

penn state kicker #99 explaining to Franklin that he just got his weight behind that kick too much, ya think!?

Comment by Dr. Tom 01.02.16 @ 2:39 pm

Didn’t the Georgia WR get tackled 5 yards out of bounds?

Come on man – throw the flag…

Comment by Erie Express 01.02.16 @ 2:40 pm

Gas – agree. We need to start showing HCJF some luv, so we don’t scare him off! Maybe we call him “MR. Franklinstein”. Or maybe instead of psux, we call his school, ” psue”, in honor of the kids whose lives they ruined.

Comment by Savannah Panther 01.02.16 @ 2:45 pm

Upitt- you crack me up.
The only Pittsburgh players you like are those who don’t go to Pitt

Comment by Gas 01.02.16 @ 2:45 pm

Upitt that stuff was irrelevant. If we recover either on sidekick and House had had any defensive scheme that could cover a WR & end a drive then that pass to Boyd never even happens, again Come On Man!

Comment by Dr. Tom 01.02.16 @ 2:46 pm

I feel like I’m watching the ped state network.

Comment by dinosaur 71 01.02.16 @ 2:46 pm

Doc – I feel you but all phases shit the bed. Tyler on the drop and the moron coacches and atrocious hands team and D.

Comment by Upittbaseball 01.02.16 @ 2:49 pm

Georgia is killing me…killing me….

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 3:01 pm

Anybody know the reason for the apparent hardons these announcers have for penn state?

Comment by Dr. Tom 01.02.16 @ 3:06 pm

FWIW … Cuse winning at #11 Miami 23-11 .. still early though

Comment by wbb 01.02.16 @ 3:12 pm

Caught some of Miles Sanders at Under Armour.

Skills did NOT translate to the Game. Lost some Athletically relative to other Players. Did NOT look fast.

Doubling Down in saying Pitt got the BETTER RUNNINGBACK in George Hill.

Comment by PittofDreams 01.02.16 @ 3:19 pm

C’mon D!!

Comment by Savannah Panther 01.02.16 @ 3:20 pm

At least the announcers are good at telling us what PSU should do!

Comment by Savannah Panther 01.02.16 @ 3:22 pm

And, yes… despite all the talk of Hill being a D-Back, he will be toting the Rock.

Too many SKILLS to simply shove off to Defense.

Comment by PittofDreams 01.02.16 @ 3:23 pm

Beautiful. I’ll bet that REALLY hurts!!!!

Comment by Savannah Panther 01.02.16 @ 3:24 pm

The dawgs hang on to nip the nits.

Whew!

Comment by Erie Express 01.02.16 @ 3:24 pm

I hate to say it but this was the best bowl game that I’ve watch yet! And penn state still sucks.

Comment by Dr. Tom 01.02.16 @ 3:24 pm

Finally: 7-6 has a nice ring to it!!!!

Comment by Savannah Panther 01.02.16 @ 3:25 pm

Any time the pedos lose it’s a great game.

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 3:26 pm

The stinkin’ hoopies won in hoops though…now we need Fraud to beat them in FB for the tri-state inept trifecta.

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 3:28 pm

speaking of hoops, we have a game at 4 on ESPN3 if anyone cares

Comment by wbb 01.02.16 @ 3:37 pm

The pedo’s boosters must be laying some cash on their recruits to get a #9 team recruiting ranking. It has to be plain to HS coaches and parents that Franklinstein can’t coach.

Of course there’s still this image that they are above reproach, even after running a pedophile ring for 30 years….

There’s still that cult worship appeal though I guess….

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 3:38 pm

Look, the Dairy College pumped millions into the media during pedo fiasco. This is what happens when you spend millions and millions promoting your school. The network feels obligated to slant your story.

I can’t believe I heard the following from the announcers: “many are saying that next year will be coach franklin’s first year due to all the sanctions and scholarship limits”. They obviously haven’t been watching how many recruits the peds have signed the last few years. Who believes that crap? Bill Obrien did the heavy lifting. Franklin is a liar and as such, recruits well.

So do we root for Fraud, Hoopies or a tornado tonight. Ok, just kidding about rooting for the hoopies.

The Dairy College game will be won in the trenches. Georgia had some nice speed that matched the Dairy Farmers.

Comment by dhuffdaddy 01.02.16 @ 3:38 pm

Yeah wbb…our last yawner rent-a-win…

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 3:39 pm

I agree dhuffdaddy, and I mentioned that when I heard it. What a joke….good one about the hoopies.

One thing though, the pedos DL looses Nassib & Zettle to graduation and most likely Johnson to the NFL draft.

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 3:48 pm

Duff – I know you are joking but we have lost many in Texas and lots of deaths in our immediate area. Not sure where yiu live but it is a weekly thing for us. Just a heads up.

Comment by Upittbaseball 01.02.16 @ 3:56 pm

To butter up Coach Franklinstein so he doesn’t run off let’s offer him a gift card for 1 month of free head rub and polish…

Comment by Pittscript 01.02.16 @ 3:59 pm

Dr. Tom – Saban sure as hell knows Foster’s name – he was going to be a starter going into the 2015 season.

Comment by Reed 01.02.16 @ 4:19 pm

Hackenberg just declared for the draft… that was fast.

Comment by Reed 01.02.16 @ 4:21 pm

Just looked up the passing efficiency stats for Hackenberg and Peterman:

Hackenberg 184-345 for 53%; 2386 yards, 16 TDs & 5 INTs and a 128.3 PE rating….79th nationally

Peterman 193-314 for 61%; 2287 yards, 20 TDs & 8 INTs and a 138.7 PE rating….44th nationally

Remember all that is with Peterman playing one less game than Hackenberg did.

This is why some PGH media types and a few TV announcers have been saying NP might get drafted. I haven’t said that, but some others are. After a decent SR year though he could get a shot at the NFL.

Comment by Reed 01.02.16 @ 4:33 pm

Reed…’going to be’ shows the NFL scouts nothing so far. Meanwhile Boyd going to be a rich man come April. Hope Foster enjoys Spring Camp the next 2 years….

Hackensack is tired of being beat up at the place QB’s go to die….ped st.

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 4:37 pm

Hackensack reminds me a lot of ND’s Brady Quinn. An overrated 5 star QB who will stink in the NFL.

Comment by Jackagain 01.02.16 @ 4:40 pm

Jackagain – I didn’t make a statement regarding Foster and the NFL – I replied to Dr. Tom saying Saban ‘didn’t know Foster’s name’ and his implication that Foster was buried on the depth chart – apparently that wasn’t the case at all.

Personally I think Foster is a late 2nd-3rd round pick at best. He was a good college player but I wonder how his skill set will translate to the NFL.

Comment by Reed 01.02.16 @ 4:41 pm

Jack – So who will be the better pro? I say Foster. He will win a National Championship and play in the leaugue. Money isnt everything. I do well and can care less about money. The ride is what matters and the competition. Making money is the easy part. Winning NCAA’s is not. Or Super Bowls for that matter.

Reed – You mean Boyd is a 2nd or 3rd rounder?

Comment by Upittbaseball 01.02.16 @ 4:45 pm

UPITT – once again your ‘facts’ are wrong…Pitt went up by 20 with 6 minutes left – they never saw the ball again until the last short drive ..no way TB lost the game.

Comment by markp 01.02.16 @ 5:02 pm

ok, insert the plague for the ternado as that was not politically correct.

I think hackenberger texted his decision to the media as soon as he went into the locker room with a bad shoulder.

Reed-I think the jury is still out on Foster. With a big year next year he would be in position to declare early. Unfortunately, I think he plays second fiddle to Ridley, believe it or not.

Comment by dhuffdaddy 01.02.16 @ 6:24 pm

Markp – He DROPPED the ball Voytik delivered on last drive. I don’t remember the time. It was a drop on the 15 yard line. Are you blind?

Comment by Upittbaseball 01.02.16 @ 8:35 pm

Duff – I hate PC BS. Haha.

Plague feels better. Haha.

Comment by Upittbaseball 01.02.16 @ 8:36 pm

Upitt – so the team blows a 20 point lead in under 5 minutes and you’re trying to blame Boyd because he dropped a pass?! You are more than blind! For someone who claims to have been an athlete you make some really questionable comments – glad you weren’t on ant on my teams!

Comment by markp 01.02.16 @ 11:22 pm

UPitt – I meant Boyd. He has some great physical skills but I don’t think he’s going to be a 1st round pick – usually those are sure things.

A few years back I though Baldwin was a 2-3 rounder also but his attitude sucked.

The thing about trying to predict drafts spots is that we fans really don’t know what the teams needs actually are.

Comment by Reed 01.03.16 @ 10:11 am

Markp – There were multiple reasons we lost but when your All American WR drops a wide open pass yes he is part of losing the game.

Reed – I agree. Sticking to 4th round.

Comment by Upittbaseball 01.03.16 @ 12:39 pm

I agree with that drop being integral to the final outcome of the bowl game. True superstars make plays in the clutch consistently.

Comment by Reed 01.03.16 @ 2:01 pm

Thought it interesting that in his presser Hackenberg praised and thanked coach Obrien and never mentioned Franklinstein.Boyd was a godsend for 3 yrs. for Pitt and I wish him the best in the NFL. I am glad we are seeing more speed in Narduzzies’ recruiting, we need it on both sides of the ball. So far so good looking to next year. Now lets nail a good OC that cn get it done with the guys we have for next year.
