I figured you guys would get a kick out of this since you are bored as hell waiting for liquor, football and turkey – in that order.

So, I did up a look-back at a great time in Pitt football’s history… Pop Warner’s first year as the Pitt Panthers head coach.

^^^ That is the lead-in.

Here is the rest of the reading. It is six minutes long and my first one so please forgive the stumbles and mistakes.  I’ll get better as I go along.

Enjoy!!220px-PittFootball1915program

Happy Thanksgiving and be safe,

One thing for sure … when your novel becomes an audio one, you won’t need to hire a narrator

Some discount Pitt’s glorious football traditions & history. Often times in this “what have you done for me lately” world of instant gradification, only the immediately tangible rewards seem of any value.

Far be that from the truth. Those feats of mankind, that can stand the test of time and are still recognized for their outstanding accomplishments from the past are truly that which matters.

Us old timers now appreciate the exceptional accomplishments of the Majors/ Sherrill era even more now than we did back when we were living the dream first hand as youngsters. It was manna from football heaven that we didn’t fully appreciate until it no longer existed.

Those were very special times, the Pop Warner, the Jock Sutherland and the more recent glory days of the 70s & 80s. Never discount those historical accomplishments. They were earned with the sweat, blood and tears of monumental Pitt men.

The time is now for making some more Pitt football history!

Comment by Dr. Tom 11.26.15 @ 2:33 pm

Those boys sneaking out of Camp Hamilton had to do some serious walking to get to any local night spots. I grew up near that old Pitt practice facility which was on the banks of Shade Creek and it is seriously in the middle of nowhere. I’m guessing the closest place they could have walked was Seanor which is a fairly short way downstream but would have been an interesting trip in the dark following the nearby Pennsylvania railroad tracks. Or they may have gotten out on the road and hitchhiked to Hollsopple, Hooversville, or Windber. They all were robust mining towns at the time with lots of beer gardens. The road that passed by Camp Hamilton probably would not have been heavily traveled at night. They had to want to party pretty badly.

A very BLESSED Thanksgiving to one and all Blatherite!!! As we give thanks to God for all of His provisions may we prayerfully acknowledge His goodness this special day.
I am blessed this day to be in Reistertown, MD at our daughters house. Especially since my wife and I now live in the Houston area, leaving the South Hills in 1982 for Texas.
God bless,

@ mailman, thank you so much for that You Tube video. What’s the saying, if you can’t play, coach?

There must have been more than a few Panther players who wet their pants watching that display.

Very endearing, to say the least! Hail to Pitt!

Why don’t we have folks up in arms about returning the uniforms to Pop Warner days? Isn’t that tradition? Or do you mean the only tradition you remember?

Reed, your writing here is excellent, and your reading has potential from this amateur judge of it. My reference is several dozen books on tape readings I have listened to over the past 15 or so years. Voice is great and just a matter of practice on the smoothness and flow.

Big game today. Let’s hope for the outcome we all want.

My take? Pitt 35 – Miami 30

Comment by Reed 11.27.15 @ 5:15 am

It’s 11:25 am where I’m now in Germany. I’ll be listening in on the Pitt game via Internet. My prediction: a Pitt win!

Hail to Pitt!

Comment by MariettaMike 11.27.15 @ 5:26 am

Did you see the chest bump put on one of the coaches by Conner at the Turkey Bowl intro? I think he’s almost ready – nearly knocked the coach to the ground.

Pitt wins 38 – 31

JP catches a TD, T.Boyd rushes for a score (15 catches for 225 yards, 5 carries 50 yards), QO rushes for 150 on 20 carries and one TD and the D gets two scores – one pick six each by Freeze and Pitts. Ejuan Price is too much to handle for the Miami sophmore tackles and he pressures the QB all game long ending with 4 sacks and 6 TFL.

Chris Blewitt kicks a 45 yard FG with 2 minutes in the game to give Pitt a 7 point lead. Price records his forth sack on a 4th and long to end Miami’s chances.

Attendance reaches 50,000 and many complain about the yellow seats on the Blather, but the mid-field logo, painted by D.Render and his mom looks great.

HTP!

Comment by Frank md 11.27.15 @ 8:05 am

The weather looks fine to win # nine.

This one is dedicated to all those who were recruited by Wanny, who experienced the WTF intro of Haywood, who put up with high octane fraud, who were steadied by cheesehead Paulie and who have been redeemed by Nard Dawg Narduzzi.

What a long weird trip it’s been. These Seniors deserved better but stuck it out to the end because they are Pitt Panthers through & through.

They are at the end of their college careers but were fortunate enough to have played at the beginning of the new Narduzzi Era. Today the saga continues, at the threshold of a 9-3 regular season. Even the most adamant fan preaching the sermon of accepting nothing less than 10-2 (TT) really didn’t believe that those numbers were possible in this 1st season with yet another new untested HC. A 9-3 record would be close enough however to impress even the most critical fan of Pitt football.

A win over Miami today rewards not only the Seniors but it a salute to the entire organization from Chancellor Gallagher all the way down to the Freshman student cheering in the Panther Pitt, confirming that this new era is just picking up speed on the runway soon to take off to heights not imagined by even the most optimistic Pitt fan. This win is essential therefore so as not to abort that takeoff. This one smashes the mediocrity mold that these Seniors have dealt with for their entire Pitt careers. This one is important.

In one short season. Narduzzi has grabbed SOP by the throat and killed it by teaching his team how to win. He has gotten them to respond to adversity rather than to wilt in it’s presence. This coach has succeeded in transferring his winning attitude to his players to such an extent that his troops now “expect” to win every game they they play. That accomplishment alone is a quantum step up to taking this program to the next level.

The comeback from two tough defeats to play their two most complete games with victories over Duke and Louisville demonstrated this teams determination not to take those defeats as a predictor of their season’s second half record. This team was already thinking about Miami when giving their post game interviews after beating the Cards.

This team will be getting some solid reinforcements come LOI Signing day in Febuary. The HS stars on Pitt’s recruiting radar are about to align. I see Hamlin, Gilbert, Jones and probably a flip of Sanders to Pitt in this class, plus others who are already on board like Ffrench and Flowers to make an immediate impact on this squad come 2016.

We will win today. It is Pitt’s destiny. This Panther squad will not permit the outcome to be anything other than victory. 9-3 and then a bowl win after that. Hail to Pitt!

Comment by Dr. Tom 11.27.15 @ 8:49 am

Nice articles in the PG this morning. One about the seniors, one about student attendance, nearly double this year, and one about the depth of the BBall team.

Should be a very emotional day for the Seniors, Boyd and Conner.

What a difference a year makes. Last year it took an unexpected (except POD) win vs Miami to make us bowl eligible. This year we expect a win vs Miami for better bowl position.

This weekend the ACC has another opportunity to show how competitive it is with the SEC. Wins will help with overall stature which is important for recruiting in the south.

My whole family will be in attendance today, my wife, son, daughter, daughter in law, and daughter’s fiance. Among myself, my wife, son and daughter we have 7 Pitt degrees.

Let’s Go Pitt!

Comment by gc 11.27.15 @ 9:11 am

My general rule on predictions is if you are surprised by the spread, just go with it. I didn’t expect Pitt to be favored by 6 over Miami (after all, it is MIAMI). Go with it – Pitt wins.

Comment by 66Goat 11.27.15 @ 9:31 am

I’ve said it before … Historically, when Pitt is all in on football, greatness is within reach.

Pitt is all in on football right now … As fun as this season has been, just wait to see what happens in about two years.

Comment by Tossing Thabeets 11.27.15 @ 9:59 am

Miami is going to attack Pitts and Maddox and Miami’s QB may not be rattled by pressure.

I think it goes down to the wire and Pitt loses.

I hope Vegas is right.

Comment by 66Goat 11.27.15 @ 10:53 am

Should be a good game but Pitt pulls it out 31-28. It’s been a great season and HCPN will continue to deveop this program into a champion!

Comment by shawn 11.27.15 @ 11:00 am

Pitt will be 1-0 on games played today. We will win the trenches and therefore neutralize the speed advantage that Miami possesses. Penalties a key factor. Our db’s must tackle today.

Let’s go with 34-29 with some really weird plays taking place.

Comment by dhuffdaddy 11.27.15 @ 11:14 am

I’m thinking shootout today. Miami passes their tails off; we run and throw like crazy.ejuan does his thing. The good guys win – 48-38!!! 9&3!!! And a Fla Bowl in the offing – within driving distance of Savannah!!

Comment by Savannah Panther 11.27.15 @ 11:33 am

SAME OLD PITT Dream on Savannah Panther… MIAMI 20 PITT 0 Pitt is as always…I AM going to go mow the grass …Take away YSU and Akron bumbling bums and Pitt is really 6-5 and if they lose their bowl game 6-6 not counting beating up on the Bum teams!

Comment by Boo Boo 11.27.15 @ 1:15 pm

At game, oxjc came out throwing, np cant hit the broadside of a barn, miami cant stop the run, does chubbs think he’s outsmarting miami, aint working.

Comment by rkb 11.27.15 @ 1:46 pm

Guys, when Clemson beats South Carolina, Louisville beats KY and GTech beats Greorgia later today in their rivalry games, please don’t tell us these were the weakest of the SEC.

Let’s give credit when the ACC earns it’s due.

The games played out yesterday in Pitt’s favor to join the top 25 – just didn’t get the W Pitt needed.

Comment by Erie Express 11.28.15 @ 10:34 am

@@@@@@

Jealously looking at the ACC schedule. Every game except
BC/Cuse is an in state rivalry game. Pitt should be playing
PSU today. Sorry but Miami will never be considered
a rival. Sad that one of the oldest and best rivalry game
is no longer played annually. Pathetic.
