Here is this morning’s media recap for the day:
Post-Gazette:
Freshman Ollison at “The Wall“.
Pitt sees upside in Southside renovations:
“Specifically, Barnes pointed to the hydrotherapy area, used by both teams, as being a part of the expansion. He also added that a common lobby space, as opposed to the current setup of two separate entrances, will make things more comfortable for the Pitt football players, who often eat their meals at the Steelers’ cafeteria.
“Just the little nuance of how our student-athletes won’t have to go outside to get into the cafeteria (Heaven forbid),” Barnes said. “They get to stay inside in the wintertime. Those are things we’ve been communicating and planning together here over the last couple of months plus.”
Trib Review:
Jordan Whitehead laid down on his dorm room bed. As he turned his face to the industrial-blue painted wall he moaned, his stomach roiling and his bones aching because he wanted to do so much more for his fellow football team Panthers. The problem was that no one else knew exactly how confused and invalidated Whitehead felt until the astute Trib-Review sports writer actually asked him. Then Whitehead was happy again.”
PITT finds a quarterback with swagger…
Moments that define Pitt’s season stretch from cold January days in the indoor practice facility on the South Side all the way to Durham, N.C., last Saturday when players answered their coach’s challenge.
Along the way, Pitt found a quarterback with a swagger, a way to carry on without its best player and an attitude that was strikingly different than what the players knew. (Denzel Washington or Al Pacino – your choice)
“They challenged us from the beginning,” said wide receiver Dontez Ford of the coaches who conducted pre-dawn workouts less than a month after they were hired.
Coach Petrino finds footing with Louisville… after slipping on the proverbial banana peel in Arkansas.
A New Era in bowling?
Pitt is 3-1 in talking heads prediction.

But howsabout Michigan?
Never mind!
Having said that, I liked the last paragraph best …
“The team’s football uniforms are still navy blue and gold. But Barnes said the athletic department would do a thorough study on using what he called “accent colors,” which may include the royal blue and mustard yellow conjured up by John Majors some 42 years ago. Then the comeback will truly be complete.”
If we play Penn State anywhere…( even Mars) I’ll be there.
But warmth + Penn State would be perfect!
Franklin stein would crap himself if he had to play Pitt with his joke of a team.
The 60’s unis were indeed boring.
Mentioned how PSU and Temple want hundreds of millions for new stadiums and improvements but forgot the link.

Think it cant happen? Comcast, yes those gougers, got over $300 million to build a new Philly HQ when Rendell was governor (he owns bocu shares in another’s name). Corrupt legislators from one end of the state to another go to PSU games and sit in the Preident’s and other boxes. Both parties. Back when Emel and I were in Pol Sci Pa was the third most corrupt state in the country, it still ranks there. Dont let them do it CPG – OCS should not be dead if money is in play for the Pedipile hiders and Temples. Later
Hail To Pitt
IF NARD DOG DID WITH WHITEHEAD WHAT JOHNNY MAJORS DID WITH DORSETT (move him to tailback and give him the ball 30 times a game) WOULD JORDAN WHITEHEAD BE AS SUCCESSFUL AS TONY DORSETT WAS HIS FRESHMAN YEAR???
What do you think?
– I think it would be quite possible.
Who is the odd man out next year?
Jones-Smith
Bisno
Johnson
Officer
O’Neill
Bookser
Back-ups
Reese
Guy
Roberts
Herndon
Baker
Grimm
Only O’Neill is under 300 at 290. Probably be at 300-310 next year.
Yes we will have depth. Maybe use O’Neill as a tight End on running plays.
How about running behind those guys Miles Sanders?
The PA state govt is so freakin’ biased towards the central and eastern part of the state, it’s pathetic. I propose that Western PA secedes and becomes it own state!
It would be amazing if Temple gets state funds to build a stadium ,, as well as PSU (who only gets about 100k revenue per yr from FB) .. and Pitt gets nothing. And the guy who was behind it all was a former (and possible current) PSU board member — Corbett
One of the biggest fallacies by Pitt fans about Miami. Two of the coldest games in Heinz Field history had no effect on Miami in 2003 and 2013.
Now, getting concerns about Louisville.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking this one’s in the Bag.
Three of four ESPN writers are picking Pitt to win. The chick picked Pitrino’s Cards. She must be a one eyed Queen.
All were low scores – Black Jack like scores to boot.
HTP!
With the series renewal looming in 2016, I would think it is highly unlikely that we see a Pitt – PSU matchup in the Pinstripe. I don’t think either school would want that.
Received my magnet this morning, and it is proudly sitting at the top of my door to my office.
Appreciated greatly. Thanks again!! H2P!!
Set goals, get the kids minds straight, fired up, focused.
“hey kids, what sounds better, 8-3 or 7-4” etc. etc.
Louisville makes me nervous, haven’t seen them play since they started winning a few.
don’t pencil N.Carolina in as Coastal Division champ just yet.
Have to play at Va.Tech, only -5, and then at rival N.C.St.
Probably will blow both out, but games still have to be played!!
But on the other hand …it is Beamer’s final home game, and NC St is a big rival game.
Dan, from that previous thread, I too favor an eight team playoff, think it is just the right number. However, I think each of the conferences gets a slot, which would be the top 5 then three at large. I would then give the other conferences a slot if they are worthy like the AAC this year. Then two at large.
You should also never have more than two from any one conference. This would make it much more interesting and every conference would have a horse in the race.
Would definitely make conference championships meaningful.
This would also limit most of the politics.
Look at last year where TOSU probably should not have made the playoffs then went on to win.
There will always be some controversy, but if you win your conference, you should have earned a shot.
I’ll use the $$$ for other mailings and ThankYou!
Going to 8 allows an undefeated BYU or Boise Teams, access to the big game. If you will recall, Boise finished one year either undefeated or with one loss and ended up ranked 6th or something. They didn’t get a chance to show they could beat the top team. Same with BYU, they also went undefeated I think one year and finished 7th in the polls. It only makes sense to allow them into the conversation.
Best scenario for ACC is that ND gets #5 seed this year. Their AD is not smart because they obviously can’t play in a conference championship, which shorts them one game on their resume’. They should petition for an Independent football championship game which sounds stupid. My hope is that they finish 5th and get pushed to a conference before it goes to 8 teams.
– there still is a possibility of 1 or 2 fanbases traveling 3 successive weeks
– and how about the controversy between who is seeded 4th (home game) and who is seeded 5th? And probably the 6th seed will be pretty pissed also.
Low 50’s and partly cloudy at kickoff tomorrow. No chance of precipitation until around 7p so we should stay dry. With all of the road closures and construction, I may have to parachute into the stadium, but I will be there.
An eight team playoff system eliminates that issue. Although there may be some debate that unworthy teams get into the playoff if it expands to eight, IMO, it is more important to give the otherwise left out undefeated team a chance at a national championship.
A team that runs the table from a non Power 5 conference might seem inferior to a 11-1 team from one of those five considering their SOS but a team can’t do anything more than taking on every opponent on their schedule remaining undefeated in the process. Therefore, if the system ever does expand to eight, the language in the selection process should be defined to automatically include any undefeated FBS program that otherwise would have been excluded from the selection process.
With a road to a NC requiring three additional wins against the most elite of the college football world, the pretenders will quickly be weeded out from the true contenders. In this expanded system however, it does permit for the Cinderella Effect to transpire when every once in a while a team like this year’s undefeated (so far) Iowa, might still get left out by a 11-1 team taking their place in the playoff when in fact the Hawkeye’s could very well beat anybody in the nation if given the chance.
I’m sure there will be many opposing views but that’s my spin on the post season process.
They could easily lose @Stanford, but it would really be sweet if they won out, and one of the Oklahoma’s passed them.
Oklahoma debatable.
Tough sell for OU, witht that loss to Texas and ND destroying them, allthough I think OU is one of the best teams out there right now.
Look pretty good on both sides of the ball, and have a really good QB.
