Here are somethings for your viewing and reading pleasure when you should be working on a Tuesday morning.

First off here is Pat Narduzzi’s Monday morning press conference: Notice he’s send a serious mixed message with the logos in the video!

We’ll follow that up with Nate Peterman’s presser.

Then we’ll look at Pitt’s Cumulative Season Statistics to date.

GAME STORYLINES

*  In sole possession of first place in the Coastal Division, Pitt brings a 5-1 overall record and 3-0 ACC mark to Syracuse. The Panthers are off to their best start in six years and visit the Carrier Dome with a No. 25 national ranking in this week’s Associated Press poll.

*  A key to Pitt’s impressive start has been its ability to win close games. The Panthers are 4-1 in contests decided by single digits, including last week’s 31-28 victory at Georgia Tech courtesy of Chris Blewitt’s school-record 56-yard field goal with 1:11 left. In contrast, Pitt was 1-5 in single-digit games last season.

*  This will be Pitt’s fifth road trip in seven games. The Panthers are 3-1 on the road, the lone loss coming at undefeated Iowa on a 57-yard field goal as time expired.

*  Pitt’s Pat Narduzzi and Syracuse’s Scott Shafer are longtime friends and colleagues. The two worked together as assistants at Northern Illinois (2000-02) and Rhode Island (1993-95).

*  Pitt continues to field one of the nation’s best defenses. The Panthers are ranked 17th in fewest yards allowed (300.8 avg.). In the second half at Georgia Tech, Pitt limited the explosive Yellow Jackets to one TD and 145 total yards.

*  Pitt leads the ACC and is third nationally with 3.67 sacks per game. The Panthers have 22 sacks in six games. Last season. Pitt had only 19 sacks the entire season.

*  All-America candidate Tyler Boyd is newly minted as the most prolific pass catcher in Pitt history. Boyd has 204 career catches, eclipsing such Pitt greats as Larry Fitzgerald, Antonio Bryant and Devin Street.

*  Pitt and Syracuse have played every year since 1955, when both schools were independents. Pitt has won 11 of the past 13 games in the series but tight games have been the rule. Two of the last three games have been decided by a single point.

SERIES NOTES

Pitt and Syracuse have met every year since 1955…Pitt holds a 36-31-3 advantage in the all-time series, which began in 1916…the Panthers have won nine of the past 10 games against the Orange, and 11 of the past 13…Pitt won at Heinz Field last year, 30-7…the past two games in the Carrier Dome were decided by a single point…in 2013, Pitt won, 17-16, with an Aaron Donald blocked extra point being the difference…

in 2012, Syracuse snapped a seven-game series losing streak with a 14-13 win in the Dome…the 2012 encounter marked the final Big East game between the two schools…Pitt and Syracuse met 20 times as Big East members from 1993-2012 and the Orange owned an 11-9 edge in those contests…Pitt has won both ACC meetings (2013 and 2014)…since 1972 (43 seasons), 18 games have been decided by single digits (excluding a 20-20 tie in 1990)…

the teams have played two double-overtime games and Syracuse won both (24-17 in 2000 and 38-31 in 2004)…both overtime contests were played in the Carrier Dome…Pitt is 21-11 against Syracuse in Pittsburgh…that record includes a 6-1 mark at Heinz Field…the Orange’s only victory at Heinz came in the stadium’s inaugural season, a 42-10 decision in 2001…the Orange hold an 18-15-3 advantage in games played in Syracuse…the Orange is also 2-0 against Pitt in neutral site games (the last coming at Shea Stadium in 1965)…

Pitt is 7-10-1 all-time in the Carrier Dome, which opened in 1980…however, the Panthers have won five times in their last seven visits to the Dome.

True of False?  Steve Pederson and Todd Graham proposed to have this built, based on the Carrier Dome, as an on-campus stadium situated directly on Schenley Plaza but Eat n’ Park , who holds the restaurant license for the area, wouldn’t allow it.

Franklin just said he doesn’t like the back and forth that has gone on over the past year. ROFL.

“You could have a talented quarterback with a bad play caller and make him look bad,” he continued. “You see that around the country, some closer than others.”

Appreciate the Nard Dog’s honesty.

He was obviously talking about McRib making CV look bad.

Cudo’s Nard Dog !

Top 25 !!! woohoo

Comment by Emel 10.20.15 @ 4:54 pm

I live up in Syracuse, I’m so pumped to go watch us play as a ranked team for the first time since my Freshman year (the birth of the Tino era in Utah.) Are there a lot of people coming up for the game this weekend? Anywhere in particular that Pitt fans are going to tailgate Saturday or go out for drinks after the game?

Comment by Giraffe 10.20.15 @ 7:20 pm

@Giraffe, I am not making this trip.

However, you may want to keep posting that question in the new articles as they come up, people tend to read the latest article, so people are probably already on to the next one.

Post it again early in an article.

I’m sure some are going and there will be a “Pitt” bar or meeting place.

You know what’s great about being ranked? Top 25 teams are listed on the first page of scores; Top 25 teams get game previews and write-ups before the game. I’d sure like to stay there a while…
