Conner on Doak Walker list

PITT’S CONNER NAMED PRESEASON DOAK WALKER AWARD CANDIDATE
The junior tailback has earned plenty of preseason praise.

PITTSBURGH—Pitt junior tailback James Conner received yet another preseason accolade today with his inclusion on the watch list for the prestigious Doak Walker Award, annually presented to the nation’s top running back by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.

This is the third award to name Conner (Erie, Pa./McDowell) to its watch list. He additionally is a preseason candidate for the Maxwell Award, which honors the college player of the year, and the Wuerffel Trophy, given to the player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Conner additionally has been named a preseason All-American by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele.

The impressive run of accolades continues a trend from last season when Conner was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year after rushing for 1,765 yards and 26 touchdowns. He broke three Pitt season records—rushing touchdowns, total touchdowns (26) and scoring (156 points)—set by the legendary Tony Dorsett during his 1976 Heisman Trophy campaign.

Conner was named to seven postseason All-America squads as a sophomore, including first-team honors from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). He was the first Pitt running back to garner first-team All-America honors in 27 years, dating back to Craig “Ironhead” Heyward in 1987.

This is why Chryst’s legacy will never be more than a good offensive coordinator at Pitt:

Next, look at the trends. From Nov. 1 through bowl season last year, Pitt ranked 12th among Power 5 schools in points per game (36.4), third in points per drive (3.31) and had the lowest offensive turnover rate in the nation. Essentially, Pitt’s offense was in the same ballpark as Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Oregon and Baylor in the final month of the season.

If you’ve seen this, I apologize. Been nose-deep in work all week.

Might explain why we are 6-6 in football perpetually. Basketball entry in report seems to indicate we cannot let our program slide. It’s successful. It needs to stay that way.

Looks like Scott Barnes is getting to work on growing us a new generation of Pitt fans from the ground up. Love it!

Wisconsin RB’s are generally busts in the NFL. Like Pedo RB’s.

Big Joke hype.

If Tyler Boyd isn’t on the Receiver Award watch list…..it should cease.

Under Cornhole’s and Nerdy’s leadership.

Total athletic profit

10. Boston College, Georgia Tech, Miami, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest: $0

That’s even with a bball program that is sold out, ticket sales wise. And has been for over a decade.

Lame, lame lame. And those clowns are still being paid.

Comment by Emel 07.16.15 @ 5:18 pm

0 profit, but what was the deficit?

And $66 million revenue to boot! An embarrassing business model based on results.

Time to pay consultants $22 million to get things right.

Or join the Ivy league

Comment by steve1 07.16.15 @ 6:25 pm

Time to stop giving our money to the Steelers and the City.

Comment by TX Panther 07.16.15 @ 6:54 pm

The Ivy League wouldn’t accept Pitt before, and sure is not going to happen now. I think though I wouldn’t mind a return to BE. We need to be good in one sport … aside from frisbee

Comment by wbb 07.16.15 @ 6:55 pm

Just wishful thinking, wbb.

Comment by steve1 07.16.15 @ 7:02 pm

@@@@@@

Return to the BE???? You don’t get it.

Due to popular demand Penn State is going back to their traditional football uniforms.. There will be no names on the back of the jersey’s… Hey PITT boss.. How about some Autumn Gold/Mustard n Blue!!

Comment by BigB 07.16.15 @ 7:45 pm

You’d think they could even hire a new graduate of the Katz School of Business and make a freaking profit.

Seems to be run like the Gov’t.

Comment by Emel 07.16.15 @ 8:56 pm

Which means, they more money they get (ACC money) they more money they will waste.

And the more inefficient it will be run.

Comment by Emel 07.16.15 @ 8:58 pm

whooops…they on the brain. Yikes!

Which means, the more money they get (ACC money), the more money they will waste.

Comment by Emel 07.16.15 @ 8:59 pm

The new BigEast doesn’t play football.

Are you advocating we drop football …wbb ? ha

And we just got the Script back 🙁

Comment by Emel 07.16.15 @ 9:01 pm

Instead Pedo State should be marking the names of every child raped by Sandusky and protected by Poopy Pants on their uniforms. It is such a CULT in Creepy Valley. The propaganda and lies rival the Nazis. And of course those Nitters already think of themselves as a superior football race.

Comment by TX Panther 07.16.15 @ 9:40 pm

OK emel, I’ll bite. It has been my experience that if you want to screw something up you let government do it. If you really, really want it f up you let private industry do it!

Comment by JoeKnew 07.16.15 @ 9:41 pm

JoeKnew, the secret is to go into business for yourself. If it gets f up it’s your fault. If you are sucessful, unfortunately the various govts. are your partner for at least 60%, but it still feels good.

Comment by Old Pitt Grad 07.16.15 @ 10:20 pm

Wow, when did this turn into a business blog?? :>)

Comment by pittman4ever 07.17.15 @ 1:16 am

Emel, yes, I advocated the same back in 96, and it would have saved all of us of much heartache

Comment by wbb 07.17.15 @ 6:03 am

~ JoeKnew

Wow, really. What about the Penna. Turnpike ?

Gov’t generally is the most inefficient wasteful entity ever created.

Comment by Emel 07.17.15 @ 1:08 pm

~ Yea we’ve had a lot of heartache, but it’s not like we’ve been Temple or Indiana or someone like that.

We’ve had our share of great moments, great games and great players since 1996.

Has it been up to the standards of when I went to Pitt ? Certainly not.

But that appears to be the anomaly, not the normal for our beloved Blue & Mustard Gold.

Hopefully after 3 decades we’re about to enter another anomaly stage !

Comment by Emel 07.17.15 @ 1:13 pm

Not so good news to start the recruiting weekend – LB Cameron Brown from MD verbally committed to Pedo State.

Our FB and BB HC’s along with our Pitt marketing efforts need to get it in gear.

One lost recruit does not make or break a class, but by my expectations, Pitt is NOT getting it done (big picture-wise).

I’ll hang my hat on “winning now” and the recruits and fans will come. We as Pitt fans need to work extra hard at the patience thing right now. I’m turning my nose to the Kool-aid this morning.

We need a Pat signal…
