Boyd’s first court appearance will be August 5th. PITT’s Fall Camp will start soon after that. That timing probably doesn’t help anybody with this incident. Lets hope Narduzzi makes his decision way before then.
An interesting thing; I checked the Patriot-News “Pennlive” newspaper online and didn’t see any reference to Boyd’s troubles at all. That is newsworthy because the Pennlive is smack in the middle of PSU country. But for a smile check this article out.
Here is today’s article in the Trib on the latest Narduzzi Meet & Greet held at the Cheswick. This part is interesting…
“The Panther Prowl was Narduzzi’s idea from the outset. He initially brought up the idea to Jeff Gleim, Pitt’s associate vice chancellor for alumni relations, while at the Armed Forces Bowl in January. His plans for a $3.5 million renovation of the team’s practice facility also made it prudent to invite fans and donors. Gleim said the tour attracted more than 1,000 people to five previous sites — Washington D.C., New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.”
It will be interesting to see what other renovations he plans to do, if any, other than the meeting rooms and cosmetic clubhouse stuff. There is only so much room he has at his disposal and Chryst greatly expanded the PITT weight room when he first got here. I believe Chryst took excess clubhouse space and made the weight room about 25%-33% bigger with all the extra need weights and such.
Chryst’s thinking at the time was that he wanted the whole roster to be able to be in the weight room working out and bonding while doing so. So it seems to only thing Narduzzi can do construction-wise is cut down the weight room to give that space back to an expanded clubhouse with more toys & comforts in it for the players if he wants.
For $3.5M I’m surprised those “cushioned seats” inside the player’s new lockers don’t double as heated toilets so the kids never have to be apart from each other. Hell, they are already upgrading the ventilation in those lockers…
BTW – maybe a recent grad can answer this question… do regular student dorms have recreation spaces where they can watch TV, play ping-pong, shoot pool, etc? I think the pampering of these football players is getting pretty ridiculous and, yes, I get the draw for recruiting. I also wonder if any of the minor sports teams at PITT have anything like what the FB and BB players get.
Back to the football news. I have a bridge to sell if you buy 100% into this statement hat was also in that Trib article…
“He (Narduzzi) said the most frequent question he has received during question-and-answer sessions is a simple one: “Are you going to stay? That’s the big one.” The answer? “Yeah, I’m here. I’m here. It’s about getting the right people and getting the right fit and making it work.”
He said the question was not unexpected. “It’s surprising, but it’s scars from having too many coaching changes,” he said. “It’s understood.”
We’ll see what’s up in three years…
The Post-Gazette also has a piece on the road shows…and P-G’s Sam Werner either missed Narduzzi’s answer to the “Are you going to stay?” question or the Trib made up the answer:
Narduzzi did not, though, field the question he said has been the most common on the tour, which is simply, “Are you going to stay?” It’s understandable, coming from a fan base still scarred from a few coaches making hasty exits, but Narduzzi said it’s “almost identical” to the situation when he started as Michigan State’s defensive coordinator in 2007.
“The same scars, but they hadn’t been to a bowl game in four years,” Narduzzi said. “We’ve at least had some successful seasons.” (meaning MSU).
Tonight, he will wrap up the tour at the Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh/?Southpointe in Canonsburg so you better get over there as it is the last chance to see Narduzzi before. You may still have a chance at a last minute RSVP if you call ASAP.
As a final kick in the nuts for our readers here is an article about the late Joe Paterno being inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame. Nothing to say about that except the obvious; a lot Pennsylvanians have their heads up their asses. I wonder if the hero worship goes so far as exhumation and wheeling the body in for accepting the award. I believe some Nitters might actually want to do that.
Also the corruption of the PA Turnpike Commission ha been well documented for years.
And lastly, the percentage of state funding allocated to the eastern part of the state has far exceeded that allocated to the western part … for years.
Put into perspective not a huge deal, Leveon Bell to miss games and paychecks for a similarly stupid move last year.
Incredibly dense move by the PA Hall of Fame. If he was alive Paterno would be in the boat with Spanier et al paying expensive lawyers to keep him out of court and possibly fending off civil litigation from the abused children.
The man that covered up the actions of the architect of Linebacker U. Remember the “Penn State Way” the myth that they were sacrosanct.
His death stopped further investigation into his role in over 20 years of pedophilia. Well, the cover up and whitewash continues. Another example of how only the poor do hard time. The rich don’t even go to trial.
Not one of the Wall Street guys that nearly wrecked the world economy and cost many average people their retirement fund or loss of their house or job have been accused of a crime. I am sure many of them are getting their professional Hall of Fame awards as well.
The kids that were raped should all attend that award ceremony.
$68.4B stolen and lost and thousands of families who had worked hard, made money and made sure they were set for life, and had their future generations’ needs met, were totally broke in three days. 75+ year old ladies who hadn’t ever worked as adults applied for fast food service jobs and house cleaning jobs.
To be honest IMO he did way more damage to way more people than a murderer does. Grief is one thing, being poor for the rest of your life is another.
WHITE COLLAR DEATH PENALTY!
(Brought to you by the PITT Young Socialists Society)
gc – I’m a FB guy. Sorry, but don’t follow BB much, I’m sure we’ll see something on here about BB later on.
BTW – just got word back from PITT that no dates or schedules have been set for the Fall Training Camp as yet. I’ll post info as soon as I get it.

You drop-comments that really resonate —- and P.S. so did Mr. “Pitt HW” so my QB “Instigation” comments were worth it to me to read your two great-ideas!
…..Lol and if you were being sarcastic about that post based on the fact you linked it to that ” PITT Young Socialists Society” (I’m LAZY, didn’t read-it lol) article I still feel your post has unbelievable merit.
Crazy — Philly-Man Kevin Bacon and his wife Kyra Sedgwick and Steven Spielberg get the most press for getting ripped-off by Madoff…but so many who didn’t have so much disposable income + ability to quickly generate massive paychecks???
I doubt the man cares about his own sons who took their own lives unable to bear the burden of their Father’s actions….anyways.
Here in “Pitt World” …. Chancellor Gallagher #1, at the very top — then Scott Barnes — Pitt Athletics across-the-board are on the up-and-up. More Enthusiasm from the “Inside” — and at least twice the money than with Steve “Zero Charisma” Peterson with Scott Barnes (Count on it— there’s way more than P.S. “Who?” level money here at Pitt) —- The University of Pittsburgh will Evolve.
Commander Reed — I wonder if one could ask Madoff if it was all ‘worth it’ …. his sons couldn’t handle the shame (even though they were never 100% complicit, they were manipulated by their own “Father”) —- his suffering now in prison I doubt makes him Empathize in the slightest. “Sociopaths” are not “Cool” like they are in Glamorized Film and TV — In ‘Real-Life’ they totally cut-off their appreciation of other people and live in a Dream-World where their own well-being is the only entity that exists.
……Anyways…um, yeah, hope that one QB doesn’t play this year!! haha 🙂
Not defending Madoff however the young Pitt socialists need
to get the numbers correct….final tab 17b….half of which
wa recovered by the trustee. Bernie should be in Leavenworth
not Butner were the dorms are named after ACC teams and
he gets to pitch horseshoes each afternoon.
Paterno in the HOF is a travesty however it was bound to
happen. The denial continues for PSU
….frankly, is that I honestly don’t know how we at Pitt would handle it.
Would we here, truthfully, do what we “Should Do”, and frankly take-down all the B.S. and make every person who did nothing take responsibility, and in-essence demolish our Football Program (for at least a few years?)
I honestly hope that me as an Alum would—with zero hesitation—do what needed to be done….And yet, I imagine, if Pitt had great success and won Top-Notch Bowl games I might feel a need to want to let “Scape-Goats” take-the-fall to allow Pitt Football to continue to succeed….
Great-Citizen Tyler Boyd, why did you take our Program from our recently “Squeaky-Clean” Status??? haha 🙂 🙂
Catching up on Blather; much of the conversation about TB is humorously incorrect or wishful thinking, though some points are well made.
As far as any magistrate throwing out a DUI case at the preliminary hearing – it rarely happens. (As a young prosecutor, I once correctly as a matter of law withdrew a DUI charge for a guy who got in his car parked in his own yard, put in reverse instead of drive, and went backwards over the hill into his house below – he never touched the road which is legally required. Didnt stop one of the “Investigative REporters” from doing a “report” on dismissed or withdrawn DUI’s in the county- decades ago sadly).
No prosecutor can ethically comment on a specific case and I only know the facts in the paper – to look them up would be a misdemeanor crime in violation of the Criminal History Information Act. That said, and I do not speak for any office, typically such cases are often waived at the preliminary hearing stage before appearing before E-mels “judge”. (E-mel I love your UPMC conspiracy, LMAO, and will be headed to ARea 51, or Rt 51).
It has less publicity attached for the media hounds, but the decision will be the defendant’s. It is only for a district judge to determine whether there is probable cause. A district judge does not have to be an attorney, in fact some have been janitors, though they must take a test.
After the prelim, typically first time offenders enter the ARD program, get probation, possibly community service and hefty fines. ; the program is standardized based on BAC readings, behavior, driving in question etc so nobody will get special treatment.
After probation is completed and fines paid then the charges will be dismissed or withdrawn and the viola individual has no record – a good second chance program. It is all rather routine.
While the breathalyzer has been challenged in the past, sometimes successfully, the blood if drawn at an approved hospital will be what it is. Of course whether one’s BAC is rising of falling at the time of driving is an issue, I ask with the chance to get rid of the charges from one’s record would you take the longshot as no prosecuting office will offer ARD if a defendant does a suppression motion first? Oh, have never met a defendant who admitted to more than “2 or 3? drinks. Might be accurate, might not.
As to questions why the BAC level in general was lowered the federal govt came up with the .08 level and threatened to withhold highway funds if the state did not lower the limit – this threat was made to PA, which acquiesced.
Finally, nobody is targeted specifically. Not surprisingly on weekends police will sit by local bars and fast food places (drinking can lead to the munchies). Drunk drivers are targeted for whatever reason such as public safety but not financial – the money from fines goes to the state not the municipalities)
I was stopped two weeks ago for not using my turn signal coming out of a McDonald’s at 1:00 a.m. (you cant reach in a bag for a burger and use your turn signal) – amazingly I had not been drinking for a change LOL- I am a 6o year old white guy. Such stops are common place, if I am going to drink I hire my buddies son to Uber me around.
Overall though good job by my fellow Blatherites in the discussion.
^^^^^ Comment by RKB on yesterday’s article about Boyd.
P/S: “Reed” is fine, I was making a joke about “Commander”. I am happily four years away from that career now, obviously The Blather was more important!
We fans, alumni, etc… just are not as wrapped up and obsessed in all things PITT as the PSU people are to that university and Happy Valley itself. We actually don’t care that much about the football program that it couldn’t be ‘blown up’.
BTW – I watched the “Happy Valley” documentary on Netflix and it was a well done show and presented a balanced view in my opinion. That scandal painted that place with a wide brush and hurt people who had literally nothing to do with the university.
Second, and more importantly, we will see the Pat Signal tomorrow night. Bricen Garner of Central Catholic will be announcing his commitment on KDKA tomorrow night. Pitt is his best offer and he is universally predicted to pick Pitt. 247 has him as the 14th best prospect in PA. He will likely take 1 of the 3 DB spots in this class. He could be the first domino.
I like him regardless. 6’3″ DB?? I like that.
175lbs, gotta put on some lbs and muscle, as do most Freshmen.
I was just curious if he was that one.
Latest word is that Joe Uchebo will be playing guard at the summer league. So look for assist numbers in the double digits.
He is good buddies and teammates of Damar Hamlin. I believe Garner is part of the 412 Crew. If his coming here helps land Hamlin and some of the other big WPIAL targets it is a fantastic offer
And then step in the next year and be THE guy.
Krauser played behind Knight 2002-03 season.
Fields played behind Krauser 2005-06 season.
Woodall played behind Fields 2008-09 season.
Robinson played behind Woodall 2012-13 season.
This setup usually provided an almost seemless transition from one starting PG to the next. And Pitt was able to string together 10 straight years in the NCAA’s and 12 of 13 in, overall.
This coming season we have no freshman PG to tutor under the starter and then become THE man next year.
So besides all the other things that have changed with Dixon’s formula, this is another one to be added.
You’re lucky I’m not your magistrate
And looking at the Paterno disciples who want to name bridges and trophies after the self-serving wretch and elect him to the HOF, I say: Why stop there?
Rename the Salk vaccine after Joe.
How about the Cathedral of Joe?
Let’s rename Scaife Hall after Joe. And Heinz Field. The Pederson Events Center. Hell, let’s rename Pitt the University of Joe Poopy Pants because along with Mother Theresa, there was not a finer person in the last 100 years than the man who sacrificed the well-being of a bunch of kids for his own ego.
And for those of you who bash Franklinstein, explain to me who better to carry on that fine tradition?
Second, if a nitter ever gives you crap just look them square in the eye and say “If somebody tells me they saw your child being molested I will immediately call my boss.” They are hopeless. Don’t waste your energy.
Check out the wikipedia entry on Sandusky. There is very little mentioned of his football accomplishments. Only the details of his sordid life and the cover-up by his buddies. There is also revelation of his molesting going back to the 60’s and 70’s.
Let the Joe-bots or whatever you call them alone. They are insignificant. The rest of the world see’s Paterno as what he was. Vindictive, self-centered football coach whose empire crumbled. He died in shame.
PA has Philadelphia on one end and Pittsburgh on the other, and Alabama in between.
Philly fans would boo Santa Claus.
Not sure what this has to do with anything here but thought I would share.
