#Subtweet Battle

A quick disclaimer: if recruiting and twitter are not your thing, I won’t be offended if you move on without reading. Head into the comments. I’ll give you a topic: is Script Pitt the greatest logo of all time OR the best logo in the universe? For the rest of you, let’s look at some tweets!

A little background is needed for those who don’t follow recruiting. #Team412 is a group of WPIAL prospects, many of which are on a successful 7 on 7 team. One of the best prospects, Damar Hamlin, is considering Pitt and PSU. There have been discussions among players in #Team412 that they’re a package deal: they’ll go as a group to one university if possible. One player in this possible package is Bricen Garner, a safety from Central Catholic. Garner is not as coveted of a prospect as Hamlin, but the two are close friends.

Garner attended Pitt’s prospect camp over the weekend and received an offer. Just look around his twitter feed and you’ll see he’s quite excited by it. It didn’t take long for PSU, who likely isn’t going to offer Garner, to go on the offensive.

Gattis, the WR coach at PSU, is taking a shot at Pitt by suggesting they’re only offering Garner to get Hamlin and that Hamlin shouldn’t let that affect him. There’s more depth to it with Pitt pursuing most if not all of #Team412, but Pitt’s offer to Garner was the catalyst. This #subtweet from Gattis started a chain of amazing tweets from Pitt’s coaching staff and players.

And last, but certainly not least, a tweet I’m going to guess came from Ej Borghetti from the official Pitt Football account:

There’s more, but it was a great response from everyone at Pitt to an obvious shot from the PSU coach. Time will tell, but I think this move will backfire for PSU.

Matt N. – I thought I had mentioned this before. USC’s Joe Repischak is enrolled in…drum roll please… the University of Wisconsin! He started school there last week. Don’t be surprised if he walks on there. I know the staff liked him alot.

Emel, it wasn’t a lock at all that CV was going to start last season, he won the job during fall camp. From what I understood Chryst had left the starter’s job open until the camp was about halfway through.

Comment by Reed 06.04.15 @ 6:02 pm

BTW – I’m glad Dokish is Tweeting again. Although I might be hard on him for his love of Dixon, he speaks the truth and loves Pitt much like all of us. To that, I salute him. I raise my Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA. Be thirsty my friends.

Comment by TX Panther 06.04.15 @ 6:23 pm

I hate to bring this up again, but I didn’t understand why Dark Knight thought 16 TD’s and 7 interceptions were bad numbers for CV?

When you have Conner in the red zone, you don’t get much of a chance to pad those TD stats like many QB’s.

Comment by gc 06.04.15 @ 6:59 pm

Very good choice of beer TX Panther. About to watch game 1 of the NBA Finals and crack one of those bad boys myself.

I detest D Wade so did not root for Lebron during his Miami days, now that he is back in Cleveland…Let’s go Cavs!

Comment by Pap76 06.04.15 @ 7:11 pm

Go Cavs. But I do love me some Curry.

I’ve run out of beer. Dammit.

TX Panther, I have a few Yuenglings left from my last trip up north.

“Who is #24 in the country in Total QBR rating ???”

In a Run-First, Pure-Pro-Style, Deep-Passing offense, how many completions of 15 yards downfield did Chad Voytik complete down the field?

…..add this, to anyone not named Tyler Boyd??

**Pat Narduzzi, from a direct quote, said that Tyler Boyd is unequivocally the best Wide Receiver he has ever seen in all of his years of coaching.**

That would be about seven on the season. I let it go EMEL because you seem like a gentleman who just wants to converse and everyone deserves to be able to speak freely, but it’s difficult to tolerate your fascination / Love-Affair with Chad Voytik.

“QPR” is based on once you hit a certain amount of total attempts, basically it’s about not throwing INT.’s. It’s not about did you lead your teams to wins. EMEL — Chad Voytik probably had a higher QPR than Jameis Winston / Jacoby Brisset from N.C. State and the Freshman Deshuan Watson from Clemson in the ACC —- but anyone who isn’t a fool knows those guys are insanely talented winners who can put a football team on their backs and are insanely exciting to watch.

You clearly don’t understand What QPR actually is — it’s just another Algorithm — and you don’t understand the importance of the Quarterback postion, and a QB’s ability to either lift their Team / Sink-It / or in Pitt’s case, leave it sputtering in Neutral.

Voytik is extremely physically limited (NOT that fast, No-Arm Talent). Yes, I watch every post-game and mid-week interview and he seems nice — but he was 5-5 his senior year in high school and in his chance to be a D-1 QB

I thought I said enough on that and I know many posters agree, but just don’t want to keep beating a Dead-Horse. At least until Fall Camp when all the QB’s start throwing in Live-Practice.

Objectively, I think Tino Sunseri (minus massive, massive- personality deficiencies) was actually a better Pure-Quarterback, which is really, really sad. If Tino Sunseri had a “The Incumbent’s” personality, embarrassingly some would have fawned over him and defended him to-the-death.

There was one statistic from last year that concerns me, 6 and 7.

All players subject to replacement. May the best man win.

I see Hamlin talking about Pitt fans. Hope some of these schmucks don’t screw this up.

DAMAR HAMLIN ?@HamlinIsland McKees Rocks, PA

It’s always Pitt fans saying something wild or crazy on Twitter. That don’t help, I see all the mentions

Comment by Kenny Powers 06.04.15 @ 10:53 pm

I can’t believe Pitt is losing recruiting battles with an institution that was harboring a prolific pedophile because of crazed yinzer tweeters. We’re terrible.

Comment by Chris 06.04.15 @ 11:05 pm

I don’t see the entire #412Crew all going to the same school. Not even sure who it all entails? I believe it is 7 kids from WPIAL class of 2016.

Pretty sure Miles Sanders and Damar Hamlin are 2/7 of said “crew”? I know Sanders has a bit of a wandering eye but I think he ultimately ends up at Pedo St and I’m not feeling too good on Hamlin ending up at Pitt either. Dear God can you imagine Pedo St landing all 7 and then beating our ass 9-10-16. I think I just threw up in my mouth a bit.

Not a big fan of Hamlin kinda sorta threatening to not come to Pitt because of a couple of A-holes on Twitter. A bit reminiscent of Shai McKenzie a couple years ago. Although he flat out threatened to cancel visits and not commit. He ended up tearing his ACL for the 2nd time and is facing charges for having sex with an underage girl.

Technology can be wonderful, but sometimes I wish I was born in 1876 instead of 1976. Can you imagine Knute Rockne following #thefourhorseman on Twitter?

Chryst had the personality of a door knob at times and had no use for Social Media. I’m glad Narduzzi sees the benefits it has in recruiting and selling the program, but I can’t say I blame Chryst for wanting nothing to do with Twitterverse…

Comment by Pap76 06.05.15 @ 2:12 am

A doorknob??? That’s really harsh, not at all neat.

Again this is Adam Bertke’s first real interview as a Pitt Panther.

Super-Curious to Mr. Reed: have you ever gotten a chance to talk to this young man?? Lol and is he in reality 6’6” 225 (haha gotta question the “Program-Bios” — like Tino and Voytik were 6′ !!! Hahaha)

And did you get any chance to feel-out his personality? I mean 3 straight titles (at the same level as Chad Voytik in Tennesssee I might add) give you that feeling that the ‘Kid’s A Winner”.

Comment by Pat "Dark Knight" Narduzzi 06.05.15 @ 6:05 am

DK
You can’t put wins and losses entirely on the QB. Pitt’s D was horrible last year. There are only a handfull of QBs that can carry a team. CV is not one of those, but he had a good year as a first year starter.
He has to get better this year as does the rest of the team or we get 6-6 again.
He will be the starter for game one. I for one, do not think he has reached his full potential. We shall see.
By the way, he is more talented than Tino. That was stretching it a little.

Once again .. here is Hamlin’s tweet that Kenny P wrote above:

It’s always Pitt fans saying something wild or crazy on Twitter. That don’t help, I see all the mention.

Social messaging can be be both beneficial or detrimental.

Can you imagine if some the recruits looked at this site and saw all of the negativity, vitriol and ridicule?

Comment by wbb 06.05.15 @ 6:20 am

BTW, the Twitter thread Hamlin is referring to is some guy named Jim Reynolds who opined that if Hamlin doesn’t come to Pitt his family should be “exiled” from the city of Pittsburgh. What a great way to make friends and influence people, right? Idiot. He further tweets that he’s entitled to his opinion and that “it’s about loyalty, Son”. To which Daddy Hamlin gets in his own tweet showing a Pic of Heinz 2/3 empty with the quote, “loyalty? Which seat is yours?” Major burn!

As usual for Pitt, we have met the enemy and they is us!

Jerry DiPaola actually writes about Pitt. Here is his latest about this weekend’s camps.

@Dr. Tom, true, and he would be a true idiot if
he said that.

However, it is just as likely that it is someone trolling, to make Pitt look bad.

Actually, looking at the comment, as over the top as it is, it seems more than likely that, that is the case.

Technology is great, but has lots of negatives, holes and problems too.

No one knows who anyone is.

Hopefully that fella and his father realize or have been told this.

Comment by Dan 06.05.15 @ 8:40 am

How easy is it?? I could go to that kids twitter account within 20 seconds right now, and
say something like

“If you don’t go to Penn State, you will regret it the rest of your life. Only Penn State has the opportunities you need to get to your ultimate goal of going to the NFL”

“If you don’t choose us, then screw you anyway”.

Easy stuff.

Comment by Dan 06.05.15 @ 8:43 am

Dan- Exactly. There’s actually a guy by that name that lists both PSU & WVU as teams he follows. I’m not saying there can’t be a Pitt fan that is that stupid, but my money is on either a pedst fan or Mountie, much more likely the former. The Hamlins should’ve figured that out by now.

Comment by 1618mt 06.05.15 @ 8:44 am

Did the ACC determine that Pitt needed to play their home opener at noon? Sorry, but the only reason to play a FCS school is to play the game at night.

LSU told the SEC it wouldn’t play on Thanksgiving. I guess we lack the clout to even tell the ACC we want a night game.

Comment by Tony77019 06.05.15 @ 8:46 am

WBB. I can’t imagine that there aren’t recruits reading this site or Cardiac Hill. If they aren’t their parents are. Just like going for a job and you have several offers to consider, you do some digging on the companies. When my kids were looking for colleges a few years back, they were all over the blogs to get students perspective of those schools. No different than a recruit seeing what the fans perspective are. Kids need support and need to see us fans behind them and see our excitement about the program. Yes it is okay to drink a little Kool Aid and share it with others.

Just a late comment to an earlier thread on the Shoop brothers. Both grew up in Oakmont and John Shoop was the OC for the Bears and also coached the Carolina Panthers. I’ve known their dad, who is an attorney in Pittsburgh, for 30 years. Great family and not ones that I would group in with the Creepy Valley theme and Franklinstein.

Comment by FoolOfPitt 06.05.15 @ 10:16 am

1) It’s sad that some don’t admit it here, but Pitt literally played the single-easiest “Division-1” schedule last year. So, ‘dunno’ what some are complaining about. lol

2) Seriously let-go of the Jerry Sanduusky Child-Abuse. Joe Paterno died within months of being dismissed. And the Penn State Brass at the time are on trial (I believe?).

—- the “Pedo State” and such is too low-class. Okay so a few thousand kids showed up to a Joe-Pa memorial…10,000 kids since 1950 have graduated from PSU each year plus 2,500+ grad students (so that’s how they sell out that Big-Ass Erector-Set Ghetto Bleacher Stadium!)

Just, ‘Pitt’ (THE University of Pittsburgh, from a super-proud Alum here) is a top-Tier, Wonderful-University….no need for insulting low-blows……

……p.s. we need Nathan Peterman / Adam Bertke / Ben DiNucci to start this year, hahahaha

Comment by Pat "Dark Knight" Narduzzi 06.05.15 @ 10:20 am

Actually you wrong again PoD Dark Knight, as you are in most of your posts.

While Pitt’s schedule was the toughest, it was far from the easiest.

According to Sports Reference it was almost smack dab in the middle. (62nd of 128 schools)

link to sports-reference.com

And no the Pedo State 3 co-conspirators have NOT been put on trial as of yet. In fact I believe there hasn’t even been a trail date set.

And if any of those 3 QB’s start for Pitt, it will be a long long season. haha

Comment by Emel 06.05.15 @ 10:42 am

^^while Pitt’s schedule wasn’t the toughest^^

Comment by Emel 06.05.15 @ 10:43 am

You might also note on that link PoD…that Pitt was in the upper 1/3 of schools in Scoring…..as in Points Per Game. At 31.8 ppg

Even with the 10 point Akron fiasco.

Comment by Emel 06.05.15 @ 10:47 am

Ain’t facts a b*tch !

Comment by Emel 06.05.15 @ 10:50 am

The 2014 team with Voytik at QB avg’d more points per game at 31.8 ppg….than the 1982 Pitt Cotton Bowl team led by senior Dan Marino…at 25.0 ppg.

Comment by Emel 06.05.15 @ 10:56 am

Forbes recently listed the 25 largest college endowments in the U.S. See link below. Pitt is #25 on the list and, given our size, that is a very respectable ranking.

Interestingly (to me, at least), Penn State is not in the top 25. So, when it comes to football, they get themselves all excited and are willing to donate money. But, beyond that even with the huge number of alumni, they don’t make the top 25.

To borrow Scott Barnes’ reference, Penn State alumni are only focused on the front porch.

Comment by pmdH2P 06.05.15 @ 11:00 am

Marino only had a 115.2 QB rating his senior year.

While Voytik had a 140.2 QB rating his soph year.

All of Chad’s stat’s, completion %, etc…are higher than Marino’s senior season.

Which indicates they are a very ‘shallow’ bunch in Creepy Valley.

As I think most of us knew.

6/5/2015 – 2015 C Noah Dickerson (6-8, 255, 4*) | Overall Rank: 60 | Position Rank: 12 committed to Washington.

Kid from Atlanta going to U Dub ?

Think he would want to play in the ACC !

Comment by Emel 06.05.15 @ 11:10 am

@Dark Knight, seems like you really have the quarterback infatuation, and won’t let it go.

Believe you started the whole thing with a made up quarterback contraversey.

There is none. Competition is fantastic, glad the coaches brought QB’s in.

The more the merrier, but the anointing of some guy that could barely get on the field at a run-down Tennessee team as going to be
the sure fire starter, and a significant upgrade smells of troll.

Even if the OC suggested it because he recruited him does not make a starter in April, May, June???

First thing that had to happen, was the kid had to become available. Then we did, sure, first thing Cheyney would say to HCPD would be, “hey I recruited that kid, he was pretty good, we need some competition.”

As far as not letting it go, no, you won’t, as indicated by just about every post you have,

you end it with someone like,

P.S. Pitt needs Peterman, DiNucci or Bertke
(ha ha, wink wink, lol)

Comment by Dan 06.05.15 @ 12:01 pm

@DarkKnight,

if not Pedo State, may I call them Tight End U.??

LMAO.

Showing my lack of class?? Thank you. LOL

Comment by Dan 06.05.15 @ 12:07 pm

By the way, Penn State did it to themselves

and now they will never be able to escape it.

They have the taint and smell of pedophilia on them forever.

What they did to those children will supercede all other things when it comes to their football program.

I think a few wise cracks on a sports blog kind of pales in comparison to what was done up there.

Comment by Dan 06.05.15 @ 12:11 pm

pmd, DiPaoulo mentions the Pitt cam but the article is about the Joe Moore camp, which looks like a who’s who of offensive linemen.

Anyone know who is coming to the Pitt camp?

Comment by gc 06.05.15 @ 1:44 pm

So I guess the Penn State Sucks chant is too low class and beneath us Pitt fans and alumni? That holier than now attitude is very much like a Nitter. Can I call members of the cult Nitters or is that word banned as well?

They are Pedo State for a reason. Those crimes happened and were covered up due to their culture supporting a coach who was considered a God. But in the end we know he was the Patron Saint of Pedophile Protectors and his poopy pants is burning in HELL.

State Penn’s (is that word banned as well?) focus on football on their front porch has left the inside of their house a soulless ghetto.

Comment by TX Panther 06.05.15 @ 1:47 pm

Isn’t the front porch where the Hoopies keep their couches before igniting them?

Comment by Grizzly1 06.05.15 @ 2:34 pm

Having personally viewed burning coaches, fans riding on top of school busses and people falling in the street after a Pitt game in Morgantown, I think it best to refrain from playing there til the rivalry cools down considerably. PSU however is another thing. There you can park out in the farms areas.

Comment by Frank MD 06.05.15 @ 3:01 pm

But at Pedo State or Creepy Valley you need to carefully watch your children…seriously. At Morganhole, you need to make sure you leave your animals at home or a Hoopie will rape it.
