Oh, come on people. It isn’t even Memorial Day and we have already cycled through Pitt-PSU should play every year talk. Casually dismissed the Backyard Brawl. There is no more issue about bringing back the script Pitt. Expansiopocolypse is a dead subject. And now we are going to push through uniform alterations? Not having the usual tropes to make it through the summer doldrums are not useful for content.
I can’t — I can’t do this. I won’t be a party to trying to see how we can really squeeze two months worth of babble on the fictional concept of getting an on-stadium campus.
Okay, so as Reed and many others noted, Coach Pat Narduzzi alluded to new football uniforms on the DC Alumni visit.
KDKA’s Richie Walsh — who has become the man with the sources in the football department since the hiring of Narduzzi (or firing of Peterson, depending on your POV) — has what can kindly be put as crude mock-ups of the planned uniform changes.
Putting aside the crude, extremely crude MS Paint styling to this, and there isn’t really anything here that different from the present Pitt unis in terms of color. The white helmets, I suppose, but that’s it. The three different colors can and will be mixed and matched for more variety. That’s been the trend and Pitt has been part of it the last two years.
These are obviously very crude and simple designs. While there is apparently final approval made on the uniforms, this kind of image does nothing to show texture and really anything beyond the basic colors and style of the numbers. Piping on the uniforms, logos, etc. I doubt even the script Pitt on the helmets will be in that proportion.
The other thing to note, is that these are for 2016. Not this upcoming year. Nike designs and manufactures the uniforms so there has to be time to work out the details and get approvals.
Finally there is this:
Also, there will be an alternate fourth uniform style. Pitt will go back in time with the colors, but it won’t look anything like the uniform from the ‘70s or the throwback one from 2005.
The royal blue and mustard will make an appearance once a year.
That seems most intriguing. As a fan of the royal blue and mustard look — more so than the script — I look forward to it. From the wording, though, it is unclear as to whether that means there will be an alternate throwback and the 70s style as well each season. I could see it going either way.
The speculation is rightfully heavy that the alternate look will debut for the Pitt-PSU game. As if needed more things to hype it.
I believe, like USC, OSU and PSU, there is enough evidence that has been made public here that the NCAA has to provide sanctions … and academic fraud should be taken very seriously.
They have James Conner on their Heisman list.
That wouldn’t happen anyway, but didn’t they also sign a contract with Pedo State to renew their series with them.
Some of the greatest Pitt games ever have involved WVcc, I just don’t think you can throw that all away.
Only an utter moron would replace it with some sort of unrecognizable bust of an animal head.
Just as only an utter moron would replace a 60,000 seat football stadium with a 12,000 seat basketball arena.
NOBODY TEARS DOWN CAMPUS FOOTBALL STADIUMS WITH NO PLAN TO REPLACE THEM.
NOBODY!!!
Savannah mentioned this above. Most iconic college football numbers.
Look at the coach standing on the sidelines in the background. Is that Wanny ?
He was a grad asst. coach on the ’76 team.
Maryland is spending a $115M on refurbs and Kentucky is spending $140M. Tulane just built one, Houston is building one, Baylor just built one, Alabama State just built one. Refurbs are huge. Apparently all the other boards of trustees are plain stupid.
From a non-partisan college football writer/fan!!
One of the top iconic college football uni/logo!!
No, we’re not nuts, Pitt script is right there with the best of them!!
What a buffoon to have messed with it in the first place!!!
He knew better though!!
Nice segue to basketball. Can Jamie’s recruiting get any worse? He missed on every top recruit he tried to close. He came up with three transfers that will probably hardly see the floor. We find out that the guy we cried about all year is transferring. Just don’t see how Jamie turns this around.
So the ND QB is transferring to FL ST. Another example of why this rule is ridiculous.
June was always good to Paul Chryst. It would be nice to see this current class get into double figures before camp starts. Been stuck on 3 for awhile.
I hope everyone out there has a nice, safe, enjoyable holiday weekend. I know it’s Memorial Day but it will be Labor Day weekend before we know it! Excited for the start of the Duzz Era…
Hail to Pitt!!!!
Does Pitt B ball run camps?
2 guaranteed wins
1 50-50
1 upset potential
This is how our schedule works this year. Akron and YSU as guarantees; Iowa as 50-50 and ND as a potential upset. It makes no sense to schedule 4 50-50 games or 4 upset potential games. You schedule this way so that on your bad years, you can make a bowl and get a payday. On the great years, you have a chance to be 4-0 in out of conference. In your better than average years you go 3-1 and have a chance to get to 9 wins.
All acceptable numbers. Ask an AD about scheduling and this is the answer you will most likely receive. Follow the money dude.
As impressive as Narduzzi has been he is a 1st time HC. Akron and YSU are coached by guys who have coached and won in the SEC a good Big. I would not be shocked if Pitt list one of these 1st two…
Killed by pinheads…
Note Penn State at #2… as it states and “for generations” PSU has had same look… same with others on the list!!
Although I’ll gladly accept the wins over quality opponents like VT, Miami and Notre Dame, games that this team when focused and motivated have proven that they can beat, these high points are tainted by the major FAILS of the coaches and players when they’re so undisciplined to lose games against inferior competition because of just “mailing it in” on those games.
When I read about the lack of respect given to Pitt Football by some Blather posters who seem offended by the obvious, I offer only that you receive what you deserve and unfortunately this squad Doesn’t deserve much respect when they lose games that are enexcusable to lose in the first place.
Unlike many Pitt Fans who have given up on the Panthers ever being able to acquire the lost status that was theirs back in the 70s & 80s, I know that Pitt can get that back again. I’m more encouraged at this point in time than at any other since those glory days because I see a real shift in the “want to” of the University’s administration now that is so very essential to have before you can get to square one in building a championship program.
We’re a long way off from an ACC Championship but then again if Narduzzi can produce some rookie head coach magic, we just might be closer than we think.
Any team that can beat the likes of ND, VT and Miami on a given day has the potential of doing some real damage in the ACC. The issues that need to be effectively dealt with for that to transpire though is getting this team to practice like champions all the time and prepare for even our weakest opponent like they’re a powerhouse and even more importantly getting every player to think of themselves as true champions because once that’s accomplished the “want to” factor in the players head’s gets turned on. When that occurs, that’s when champions are truly borne.
And with the YSU’s and Akron’s you need to think of beating them 80-0. Anything less is a loss. That’s how champions think.
two observations:
– while he did QB an upset at ND as well as the biggest Pitt victory in recent year, Pat Bostick’s contributions as an alum far outweighs his playing days. Kudos to Matt Cavanaugh who may have found a QB with a major hitch in delivery but certainly not one in his character.
– it remains to be seen if it translates on the field but the enthusiasm and confidence the new staff generates is something to behold. Right now, it’s hard not to think good thoughts
6’9 Rafael Maia, good rebounder and averaged 10 ppg last 2 years
6’11 JUCO Rozelle Nix, now down to 300 lbs, goal is 285
Strength in numbers? Obviously would rather have Diallo or Swanigan, but beggars ….

Pitt is far from loaded with their newcomers but they help in many aspects, including defense and depth, two huge weaknesses last season.
Chris Dokish @ChrisDokish
Alonzo Nelson-Odoba will REALLY help Pitt with his defense. The center position for the Panthers will definitely be improved this year.
Chancellor Gallagher not only wanted to bring in a Resource-Infuser and Bridge-Creator to Alumni and Fans in Scott Barnes, but he brought in a man passionate about the game of Basketball. And no-offense whatsoever to Utah State (been there, nice people and I respect them) — but Scott Barnes has walked into a situation where he can make Pitt as big and successful as he can envision.
P.S. Heinz field will be massively improved and look amazing for TV-audiences—-if we all Fill-It!!! lol

You can open a Photobucket account.
Look at the Dairy High School out east. Their schedule has at least 8 cupcakes on it. They will be heavy favorites in 8 or 9 games because of the weak schedule. Can’t wait for the gazette and trib to start building them up. Sickening!
story on ex-Panther Jason Pinkston who pretty popular and then sympathetic figure here in Cleveland
Tough luck for Pinkston, wish him the best.
I am not nearly as positive as Dokish, while I hope we get some help from one of these guys, the recent experience says we won’t. It is very frustrating that Jamie can’t get enough elite players to come to Pitt and has to bring in guys that are marginal at best. Especially while the elite of the ACC reload with NBA quality talent every year.
Are we getting ACC logos on the field? Pitt script at the 50? Beer sales? A replacement song for Sweet Caroline? Are we talking new traditions before, during and after the game?Just not sure how much that stadium can be improved for the college game day experience.
Its still gonna have a view of the city and not Pitt campus. Its still gonna have those stupid ketchup bottles by the scoreboard. Its still gonna have a crappy field surface. Its still gonna be too large for Pitt.
You’ll still see those yellow seats. If you want to walk around the stadium prior to the game, you’ll be in a sea of asphalt parking lots and garages.
Game day experience can be improved with winning, a Heisman candidate and improved attendance (assuming our fans actually stand and cheer and make some noise).
But what specifically will be about the college experience? Talk to me about spirit, tradition, connection with the university, pre and post game activities, pomp and excitement.
I’m all for a more intimate stadium experience and Heinz will always be just too large for Pitt (think Pete at 12k vs Consol at 20k capacity) With that ratio, Pitt really should be looking at a 45k stadium. Pitt B-ball isnt playing at Consol for a reason. The Pete gives Pitt a huge home court advantage.
But despite the corporate look and feel, there can be something done to enhance the experience through traditions, some cosmetic changes, and some activities designed to pump you up and generate school spirit and a real connection with Pitt the school, not Pittsburgh the city.
I’m looking for some specifics.
If I were Nix, Maia or Nelson-Odada I would be working very hard this summer and fall to improve my game and conditioning before the season starts.
Unfortunately with the new additions I see next years team as a middle of the pack ACC team that will make the tourney but be eliminated the 1st weekend..again. I fear that may be Jamie’s ceiling anymore. I hope I’m wrong and he figures out to get Pitt back to being in the conversation as an upper echelon team within their conference and on a national level.
I think he did the best he could at filling some serious needs with these transfers. I still find it very troubling he was this desperate. Should not have come to this…
And I don’t think the new leadership regime is gonna shy away from hard work. If an OCS is part of their tactical plans to achieve their overall strategic mission of excellence, they will at least commission a feasibility study on the matter.
Any comparison is both futile and unfair.
I think one of your basic premises is wrong, in any case. If there would ever be an on-campus Pitt Stadium it wouldn’t be before Heinz is torn down and replaced (15-20 years from now). At that point there would be no need to stare at “yellow” seats in the new 65,000 or so seat Pitt stadium . They could be painted a less obvious color (Navy?).
FWIW, I wouldn’t object to one day Pitt having a “flex” stadium that seats about your 45 on the sidelines in chair back seats and has endzone bench seating that only becomes available (folded away or tarped for lower attendance games) for the large seating demand big games so long as the bench seating pushed big game capacity into the 65-70,000 range. You could flex from 45K to 55-60K to the 60-70K by opening either one or both endzones based on the demand for seats.
While PSU is a national recruiter, they seemed to have put a bigger focus in-state recently. If Pitt can put a consistent winner on the field and split with PSU, it should do wonders recruiting wise.
