Yesterday morning my daughter left on a weeklong school trip to Williamsburg, Virginia. She had to be at the school and boarding the bus around 5 am. You can imagine the fun of trying to get a newly-minted teen roused and ready at 4 am. As eager as she was for the trip and to get away from us, it was still 4 in the frickin’ morning.
The original plan was that I would get to sleep in while my wife would do the work of getting her up and out. Taking full advantage of that maternal instinct of seeing off her little girl and all that. Naturally my wife got sick over the weekend and it fell to me. The only upside being I could get into work very early and be able to finish early. Plus, at least I wouldn’t have to worry about taking the boy to school.
All went relatively smoothly with getting the girl to her school and on the bus.Aafter the slight alteration to the plan, it seemed that this day would work out well.
By seven the wife had texted me to to let me know that the boy had vomited, and the internet was out at the house. Oh, and when was I going to get home? Yeah, work on a Monday was the safe haven. The internet is still out as it seems that the modem died. The replacement won’t arrive until Wednesday. Given the rapid rate this one crapped out, I finally broke down and ordered an additional modem so that there is a back-up ready to be swapped out to avoid the agony of no computer access. No streaming video service. It is suddenly very quiet in the house.
This is a roundabout, complaining way of explaining why there was no immediate posting on the latest player to transfer into Pitt football.
It was widely expected that Dewayne Hendrix was going to pick Pitt, but when the Pat Signal went out — and many of the assistant coaches and support staff followed suit — everyone knew the news was about to break.
Rising sophomore defensive end Dewayne Hendrix, a former four-star recruit, said Monday night he will enroll at Pitt after leaving Tennessee. He will join former Volunteers quarterback Nathan Peterman, who will enroll at Pitt next month and be eligible immediately because he graduated.
Hendrix, who must sit out the 2015 season per NCAA transfer rules, chose Pitt over Iowa State, Illinois and Northern Illinois.
On his Twitter account, Hendrix wrote: “I am eager to begin the next stage of my college career at Pitt !!!”
Hendrix became frustrated at Tennessee with a change in the system. He envisions himself as much more of an edge rusher and found himself going inside more than he preferred.
“I love the defense that they run; I fit perfect in it,” the 6’5″ 258-pound defensive end said. “I’ll always be on the edge so it’s just me and an offensive tackle and there’s a good chance of sacking the quarterback.
“I’ll have to sit out one year, but there will be a good opportunity for me. I know that nothing will be given to me; I have to earn it. But if I go in and do what I’m supposed to do, I can contribute.”
Hendrix is also looking forward to working with Pitt’s defensive line coach Tom Sims.
“I love him. He’s a great coach. I got a chance to see him up close and personal and I love his style. I built a good relationship with him and that’s another reason I committed.”
Restocking the defensive end position has been a priority. For this season and going forward. It is why getting Ejuan Price back to full health for this season has so vital.
Hendrix will be in a position to impact next year, as the depth and talent at the spot improves.
Reed – just use twitter for the Pitt beat writers and football staff. Nothing to not understand. Just in the moment info. None of them post useless ruminations of their day. Just relevant PGH related blurbs. Check it once a day and you’ll be up to speed.
