It’s kind of simple. Whichever team can shoot from outside today will win. I hate typing this, but Pitt needs to drain 3s to win this game.
Both teams struggle with scoring. While Louisville has more size inside and guys who can attack the basket, they don’t plain just don’t do it enough. Preferring to jack up shots.
In the 3-point shooting, they are a lot like the Clemson squad Pitt lost to earlier this year (deep breath, no hyperventilating). They tend to suck at 3-point shooting overall, but still take a ton of them. Louisville is shooting 29.4% on 3s, but over 35% of their shots are from outside (377 3FGA, 1065 FGA). Louisville actually shoots 50% (344-688) on shots taken inside the arc.
Pitt, just for contrast only shoots takes 3s on 32.9% on 3s, but as a percentage of shots attempted it is only 24.2% (255 3FGA, 1054 FGA). From shots not from the outside, Pitt is 47.6% (380-799).
In the loss to Duke, Pitt took the approach successfully used by both NC State and Miami in their wins over the Blue Devils. Double and even triple-team Okafor in the paint, cut off drives to the basket with help defense and zone, and take the chances on Duke’s 3-point shooting. Practically daring them to shoot. Miami and NC State had it work with great success as Duke shot sub-30% in both games (combined 13-48). Pitt didn’t get that kind of shooting performance as Duke shot it at just under 50% (11-23) from outside.

Hope DiNucci made the right decision. I’m thinking about the Ivy league contacts, especially for business, will last a lifetime.
However, if Penn didn’t offer him a Grant in Add to cover his college cost, then he made the right decision.

The slide is not something that just occurred. Pitt has no chance to win vs VaTech tomorrow. Bettors know it. Line has dropped 3 pts to Tech.
That hardly qualifies as being a fixture in the Top 25.
Neither year were the Panthers ranked to begin the season.
That’s a problem, not being ranked pre-season.
Everything is about perceptions, and the perception of Pitt being Top 25 is fading.
Contrary to what Pitina said (and why would he care about Pitt’s future fortune’s), the Pitt program has not been run well the last several years, which is why we’re in the predicament we’re.
Everyone has kids coming and going, transferring etc. Must have been 500 or more kids transferring last year alone. And the top teams have kids done in 1 year like Steven Adams.
That’s all part of top tier NCAA basketball these days. You adjust, deal with it, or you’re not top tier. Simple as that.
This can be rectified, at least short term, by landing some top tier recruits for 2015 besides Wilson. All is not lost.

That gives OSU 25 commits which I hope finishes their class. As a Pitt fan, we must live in constant fear as you know … like the Buckeyes flipping Columbus native Anthony McKee, even though they already have 3 other 4-star LBs committed.
A friend of mine got a Pitt undegraduate and CMU MBA .. and was doing very well last time I knew
It may turn out that all the programs who passed on him were right, and he may never see the field at Pitt. But, he’s going to get a good education at Pitt. And, actually, he may get a 5th year at Pitt, which he would not get at Penn. He could get an advanced degree in that 5th year if he works hard in the classroom. He will make great contacts at Pitt as a result of being a QB on the football team, regardles of his success or lack of it on the field. He and his parents will accrue no debt from his time at Pitt. That may not have been the case at Penn. He may have other brothers and sisters, I have no idea. But, if he does, maybe this scholarship just made it a lot easier for his parents to afford college for any siblings he may have. Or, it may have just made their financial lives easier in other ways we are not aware of.
I think DiNucci should be applauded for making a tough decision, and not giving up on his dream. I think a kid like that, who believes in his abilities, is going to be just fine in life regardless of how his football career goes from here. You don’t need a degree from Penn to be successful in life, and a degree from Penn is no guarantee at a successful life just as is the case for any other school.

Can you remember the ‘buzz’ around the program with DW? Sure you can, just as you can about fans thinking we’d be scoring. Huge points with Graham and then Chryst.
I’m sure enjoying what has been happening since Chryst left and,yes, the excitement is building. However, and I have heard this sentiment from every single commenter on the Blather at one time or another, the proof is in the games and the won/loss record. Every single one of us. So why should this situation be that different?
So, I’ll let wait for the first results to roll in before I start my happy dance.
Thanks. I think the national perception changed pretty dramatically after Dixon’s loss to Butler as a #1 seed. ?The selection committee felt foolish. And then of course Pitt feel apart during the Big East regular season the following year.
A redshirt year on the training table and in the weight room will do wonders.
Just don’t see Chaney offering the kid if he did not feel there was a reasonable chance of him being competitive. The kid is also smart enough to know the ramifications of his decisions vis a vis the University of Pennsylvania. Not the first kid to turn down the ivy league in favor of ball. Have also met ivy league graduates that went to graduate school at Pitt.
There is no doubt that Pitt BB declined since that season. Last year provided hope of improvement but this year looks more like 2011-12. But if Pitt should get back to the way it was 4 years ago, then it will be quicker for them to return national recognition than a team who has never been there.

HCPN stating that he thinks Pitt should win the ACC this year reminds me of Graham predicting a BE championship right away.
Personally, as many of you know, I NEVER trusted Fraud, from the day I heard him in his hiring press conference he came off to me as a phony. On the other hand, HCPN seems more sincere, but there are certainly similarities to Fraud at this point in time.
I think there is real reason for optimism but none of us will know for sure until Sept and even then, theremay be some doubt.
Now, if pitt closes this class out with a DT and a quality WR i will be thrilled. I saw on yesterdays war chart that Chaney was recruiting down in Tennessee.. Anybody know who he couldve been talking to?
But remember, she works for a PSU grad, AND lives in State College so has nothing else to do.

My guess is that Warner will eventually be looking to leave the PG. I do think he is getting better and more knowledgeable, and when he does focus, comes forward with good info and opinions. However, his focus many times seems to be elsewhere.

There is no one on the schedule that at this point looks to be unbeatable, so we should have mostly very competitive games that can go either way.
I look for a whole new attitude and winning more of the close ones than losing them.

Doorson gets about 10 minutes a game. Avg’s 1.5 ppg and 2 rpg.
So he might be better than anyone we have at the 5. lol
One of the things that makes me optimistic about Nix is that he is actually improving. The true “stiffs” don’t ever seem to improve.
Ontario Lett is teaching Nix. If Nix contributes like Lett did (20 minutes per game, 10 points and 5 rebounds), Pitt’s hole at center would be filled.
