Happy National Pitt Networking Day.  I’ll be hitting the Cleveland one after work. Hope some of the Northeast Ohio readers make a showing.

The ACC will be supposedly be announcing something “big and breaking” today. Fingers crossed its the announcement of Bojangles coming to Pittsburgh.*

You know, with Memorial Day passing it means the preview mags for football should be showing up.

Athalon is usually one of the earliest and their ACC-centric one will feature Tyler Boyd on the cover.

They have their Pitt preview up, and list Pitt as 36th overall in 1-A football.

The good news is that the program firmly belongs to Chryst — only 17 players remain from previous regimes — and young players are making an impact. Chryst played 12 freshmen extensively last season. Still, the Panthers should expect to experience more growing pains, given the uncertainty at quarterback, the precarious nature of the offensive line and a defense that lost the best lineman in the nation. Victories over Notre Dame, Duke and Bowling Green in ’13 can serve as building blocks, but losses to Navy, Georgia Tech and North Carolina are reminders that more work must be done.

Basically, the assumption is that Pitt should be better. At the very least, the schedule is not as daunting as last year, so there should be more wins. At least that is part of the reasoning in this preview that actually suggests Pitt has a shot at competing for the Coastal Divsion title.

Why not a Coastal Division championship? Given the schedule the Panthers have this fall, that is a pretty fair bar to set. Pittsburgh avoids having to play Florida State and Clemson and most of the toughest division games happen to come at home (Duke, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech. The November portion of the schedule will be the most challenging, with road games at North Carolina and Miami sandwiched around a home game against Syracuse. If Pittsburgh can manage to get through October with just one loss in ACC play, which seems reasonable, they could have the division under their control in the final month.

Nobody is going to confuse Pittsburgh for Florida State or Clemson, but in a wide-open division it looks as though Pittsburgh should have as much a chance to play for the ACC title as any. And that is one step closer on a long journey to being considered among the elite once again.

There are many things that can strike terror into a Pitt fan’s heart. “Control of one’s own destiny” is definitely one of them.

*Realistically it will be the official unveiling of the new “ACC” logo.

Oh to have Bojangles in Pittsburgh!

I haven’t had Bojangles, however, I have to say I was a bit disappointed in Popeye’s.

Ordered the Cajun chicken strips, eh, ok, but weren’t very spicy. Tasted just like KFC.

Not that it was bad, just I was expecting something that made me think I was down in the Bayou’s!!

As for the ACC logo, I liked the old one with the map of the East Coast, and was looking forward to having a dot on Pittsburgh.

New logo wouldn’t be “big and breaking”. Someone may just be playing with that McMurphy cat.

How about the ACC network going to be launched??

How about Notre Dame all in, and UCONN added, to go to full 16.

Now, that would be big and breaking!!!

Dan, Canes is really good. Started by a LSU Grad and growing fast. Awesome Sauce as well.

Why even talk about a Logo???? Pederson would never put it on the field. The worst is Steeler games with white stripes through the endzone. Haha

I’ll take Zaxby’s. They have good wings/tenders with multiple sauces.

Looking forward to watching Pitt win and WVU and PSU losing this year.

New logo – not a MAJOR announcement at all

Popeye’s kinda stinks. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a Bojangles.

Comment by Jeff 05.29.14 @ 11:54 am

The SEC, B10 and ACC have 14 FB teams each. Who will go to 16 first? Are each waiting for ND? ACC should take CT now, give ND 3 years to get in.

Dudsville.

McMurphy was either lied to, or if he knew and used those words, he has absolutely no sense of what big and breaking is.

I think we all knew that’s what it was gonna be, but I had a small thought of maybe they finally put the ACC Network together.

I’m sure they are working on it.

Or, maybe he was being sarcastic also?

Man that new ACC logo is going to look great in the out of bounds area at Heinz!

Don’t like fried chicken of any kind–especially hate the skin and the grease. I do like the red beans and rice at Popeyes–have a large size when I go there but nothing else. Does Bojangles have anything similar?

Comment by pitt1972 05.29.14 @ 7:48 pm

You can hate him all you want, but if he were our coach I’d be singing his praises. This is the approach required to compete with the big boys. Meanwhile we have 3 recruits.

Originally from Pittsburgh (Aliquippa); have lived in the south for about the last 13 years so here’s my take on Bojangles.

Do yourself a favor if you’re ever on the road and see one and stop there. Pick up the chicken supremes combo with seasoned fries, biscuit, and a sweet tea. Go for the honey mustard dipping sauce and “picnic” size the meal (essentially the same as super-size although I always feel like a fat ass saying “picnic” size it). This will be the best $7.50 you’ve ever spent. That is if you enjoy chicken tenders, a boatload of fries and a sweet tea that’s bigger than your head.

Also, @jeff and @dan: spot on with the Popeye’s. Had the buffalo strips and fries and it just wasn’t that good, plain and simple. Not awful, but very forgettable. Plus the restaurant was dirty.

There it is boys: the most thorough scouting report I’ll ever give on this website! Your welcome.

Bojangles is huge down here.

It’s so huge the original Charlotte Coliseum is called Bojangles Coliseum now.

And of course it’s headquartered here.

Some are even open till 4 am, which after a nite out, tilting a few, the 8 wing box always hit the spot. And Bojangles gives you the whole wing, not halves.

Too bad I can’t eat them anymore 🙁

@pitt1972

No Red Beans I don’t believe.

Not my cup of tea but they have Cajun Pinto Beans.

@WorkingOnMyPittness, excellent scouting report!!

Comment by Dan 05.30.14 @ 8:04 am

Hey Iron Duke, That ESPN report is not correct! Franklin is obviously just doing the Georgia camps for the chicken!
