Okay, Loyola Marymount isn’t a bad team. They aren’t great, but they aren’t bottom feeders. They have a dynamo-type point guard, in Anthony Ireland, to give Pitt some problems. They are getting some good help inside from their freshman forward, Gabe Levin.
As Coach Jamie Dixon notes, they press a bit and go up-tempo. But they will definitely struggle to get Pitt to push the tempo beyond any comfort zone.
I’m going to have to watch it later tonight. The kids’ school is doing one of those fundraisers where they will do a mass babysitting of kids for the evening on the cheap. You just don’t pass up those opportunities to get a night out with your spouse. Doubly so, when you don’t have to spend a ton on babysitting costs.
The game starts at 7:00 on ESPN3.com.
Glad Pitt is NOT in the SEC. The teams
have size and speed at all positions.
Do you actually believe Pitt could
hold Auburn to 59 points? Or Mizzou
to 42? Old Dominion scored 24 points
on pitt.
As usual, I disagree with UPitt, I like strong defense, although I am fine with Auburn in the championship. We will see if FSU has a defense strong enough.
Anyway some huge hits in the FSU game. Scoreboard didn’t show it but Duke hit hard and came to play. FSU with too many weapons. The best QB in football even with a slow start. Has anyone ever had a better group of receivers? A defense that swarms and gang tackles.
I do share the concern about Chryst recruiting, especially on defense. The equivalent of Slice would be nice.
Loved seeing AZ ST trounced by the Nerd Herd. Pundits say PAC 12 is the second best, I don’t see it.
Why in the world did TJ McConnell go to Duquesne? Nice to see him and Sean beat Birch, although Birch and his team do look better. Birch has put on muscle. Imagine if we had Adams and Birch this year. Oh well, chemistry probably better without them.
I really hope that FSU can end the SEC’s string. Great for the ACC and college football in general.
Much better game without Ohio State.
I said we didn’t deserve a bowl, but I still want one. That Navy game was a killer.
Sure would like to see Savage and Donald one more time. Donald may have the marquis value to save the day, I sure hope so.
One of the biggest changes from last year’s basketball team is the increase in possessions per game (ppg).
Pitt has historically been a slow, methodical, yet very efficient offense. Although the (O and D) efficiencies are similar, this year there is evidence the pace may be changing.
Last year, through 9 games, Pitt averaged 61.8 possessions per game (ppg); and that number includes an overtime game with Oakland (68 ppg).
So far this year They are averaging 66.6 ppg. This may not seem like a big difference, but consider last year, Pitt’s pace was ranked 338 of 347, while this year they are 266 of 351.
When the team averages 1.2 points per possession (and factoring the OT game) that is another 7 points per game for; and allows .91 ppp, there is a net of 2 points in Pitt’s favor. In a close game….
If this staff loses out on all these remaining recruits this year is pretty much a disaster. With the lost recruiting classes due to the coaching changes, coach Chryst cannot afford any mediocre classes. I hope I’m wrong on Henry, gut tells me it’s not gonna be good news tomorrow…
Another improvement is the extension of the zone so that it is effective against the three and leads to steals of passes on the perimeter. Two or three times this season, moving to the zone gave Pitt one steal after another which caused Pitt to pull away.
Unfortunately, LMU was ready for the Pitt zone on Friday. Hopefully, Dixon will have Pitt ready with an effective counter the next time a team tries to attack the Pitt zone the way LMU did.
Strike 2. The game is the day after xmas. No one will attend.
Strike 3. If we dont beat a MAC Team we are the laughing stock going into 2014.
