Last Minute Open Thread: ND-Pitt

Sorry everyone. You would think that with an 8pm start there would be plenty of time to just toss up a couple paragraphs of babble. Instead, I spent most of the morning with the kids and just doing dad things. Then the drive out to the ‘Burgh. And go figure I couldn’t be bothered to post while enjoying a bit of tailgating rather than looking for an open wireless connection.

Needless to say this is a bit of half-assery. So moving on.

Got a nice spot in the press box tonight. Pity the poor kids from the Pitt News stuck next to me.

Called it, nice to be right for once. Great atmosphere, big win, hope some momentum can be built from this win. H2P!

First come from behind since 09! That’s hard to believe but true. Hail to Pitt! Great game and a signature win for PC, lot of recruits and its ND! Wow! I might watch it again tonight!

Great game. HCPC was impressive in his post-game interview.

Offense was well prepared. Next challenge is to build on momentum.

When Shane Gordon committed that stupid facemask penalty late in the 4th Qtr, I started looking around for my catcher’s cup, bracing myself for another kick in the onions from a gut-wrenching loss. What fun it was to not need it!

Reply to MattN’s “To all the Tino apologists from the past three years — do you think he would have delivered this? Nice game Tommy S.!!!”

Tino couldn’t have made that high-pointed laser-beam TD throw to Devin Street to save his life. I mean literally 0 times out of a trillion.

The Hoopies lose in excruciating fashion, Pedo St loses and coach Bill shows what a duesche he is, and the Domer’s lose at our beloved Panthers hands! That’s what I call a good November college football weekend! I was there as always, crowd was great, student section was electric…Memo: Pitt plays again next week, hope we get some of these fans back out, it makes a difference! Hail to Pitt!!!!

No way we beat NC next week! It’s my new way to get us wins! Back In my hotel room pouring scotch in joy. Nd fans everywhere . 65000 fans including a joyous Jamie Dixon.
My single thought from the night….. It was the quietest stadium I can remember for 3 quarters even with all the late scoring …then came Sweet Caroline (and I know this sounds hokey) but the noise stunned ND !!! You had to have been there …and when the loudspeakers played Metalicca Sandman the place just went bonkers !! ND lost their poise. First time ever for Kelley. Real save came when Bennet fell on the fumble that sat there forever. So for all you fans a big H2P!!!!

Night EMel, Dr Tom, Gc Frankan all the Dans and fellow Blatherites Chas and Justin. It doesn’t get much better than this!

It is about time some of you guys give Savage some credit. Sorry he’s not the perfect QB everyone desires, but he is a solid D-I QB who makes very few mistakes and has shown that he has enough talent AND grit to lead a team to victory. We don’t win this game last year.

Also about time some stop whining about an on campus stadium. Sure there were 15,000 ND fans there tonite, but when Heinz is full it is every bit a legit home field as any on campus stadium in the country. Even the students hung in for the entire game. For those of us who are there every week (yes even for UConn on a Wed night), it is so obvious how much a good crowd can influence the team’s performance. As somebody who actually LIVES in Pittsburgh AND has season tickets, I am perfectly happy with Heinz being our home. Except the awful generic logo at mid field, that as to go…

Well said Iron Duke. If I lived anywhere near the Burgh I would be at every game. Wherever you are, that’s home and right now Heinz Field looks like a pretty good home to me.

Big time win — needed it badly and the boys delivered. Really well called game offensively — sheesh, with that play mix we could have won the last two as well…oh well, at least that’s progress. Had a feeling we might rise to the occasion and we done it!!! Now let’s keep the focus and get the job done vs. UNC, ‘Cuse, and the Inmates. I feel a change.

As you stated (aptly enough), Iron Duke, “Even the students hung in for the entire game”

To me, that is absolutely incredible…

I cared little about the football team till Walt Harris arrived. (C’mon, Hackett, Majors II, stirred excitement?)

Look, I was an undergrad ’89-’93. And I’ll be damned if I ever made a “day game” post fraternity hazing period (’89) in which we were forced to carry our charter up Cardiac Hill & onto the stadiums turf, only to watch the “team” run out of the tunnel. (So very exciting (NOT).)

I was much more into getting laid Sat morn than making that trek up the hill…

Still, though, there ain’t no darn way in h*ll that I’d board a shuttle-bus to take me into the never land of Heinz field. If so the case, I’d have NEVER SEEN A GAME without some hazing & there aft an on-campus stadium.

PITT NEEDS AN ON-CAMPUS STADIUM. PERIOD, AS I TRULY BELIEVE, WITH SUCH, THERE’D BE NOT A SEAT IN THE HOUSE UNOCCUPIED @45K MINIMUM.

As an aside, however, let me talk of maturity (lacking as an undergrad (for me).) Because since graduating, I’ve become a staunch, hardcore, diehard PITT football fan who does not miss a game. And when the team goes down as seen vs GTech, it really does F my week. Hence I am ecstatic over the W last night.

This post here is DEFINITELY A “RANT.” BUT HISTORICALLY AND IN COMPARISON…

PITT NEEDS BRING BACK IT’s HERITAGE TO A …

ON-CAMPUS STADIUM.

**And no offense to you, either, as your argument is sound enough. But let’s not kid ourselves

Comment by Neil 11.10.13 @ 6:58 am

Iron Duke – I agree – while yelling my throat out from the upper deck we got to see an actual False Start penalty against an opponent in Heinz Field, caused by crowd noise. I can’t remember EVER seeing that before.

Now the true test, stay focused for an improved UNC or still party and get beat by 21. HCPC has a big coaching week this week.

Comment by John 11.10.13 @ 9:09 am

Any win over Notre Dame is a great win. Hail to Pitt! Beat NC next week!

Comment by Penguins Fan 11.10.13 @ 10:33 am
