Jamie Dixon (thanks to superb recruiting from Brandin Knight) recevied a 2015 verbal from 6’4″ SG Damon Wilson. Wilson is a 4* player on Rivals, a 3* player on Scout and will likely be a top 75-100 player in the 2015 class when it’s all said and done. His AAU squad is the NJ Playaz, whose alumni include future Pitt star Mike Young and a nice NBA lineage.
Wilson held offers from a laundry list of schools like Florida, Florida State, Miami, Virginia, and Tennessee. Here’s what Wilson’s coach, Erik Jaklitsch, had to say about him.
“Damon wanted to play in the best conference in the country in the ACC for one of the best coaches in the country,” Our Savior coach Eric Jaklitsch said. “He will get to play with James Robinson, who will be a senior when he is a freshman, and also learn from former point guard and Big East Player of the Year, Brandin Knight. He also has a friend on the team in current Pitt freshman Mike Young.”
As for Wilson’s skillset, Jaklitsch said: “Damon is a pass-first type of guard. He could grow to almost 6-6 by the time he graduates in June of 2015 and enrolls at Pitt. Damon has a high basketball IQ, a pass-first mentality and a strong will to win. He can also get to the basket and score when he needs to . What is one of his biggest assets is that he is a lefty and is more difficult to defend.”
A pass-first guard at 6’6″? Sounds good to me. He is Pitt’s first 2015 verbal and if he can perform at the same level Mike Young has so far, needless to say there will be a lot of happy fans in the Pete. Here are his highlights.
It’s about time B. Knight recruited someone. If he ever has hopes of becoming a HC he needs to step up the recruiting.
H2P !
Did Barry Rohrrsen introduce B Knight to all his NY connections yet? Need to keep the succession plan in order.
So Pitt finally got. 6’4″ 180 guard named Wilson, albeit a year too late. Still think Devin Wilson, from Montour would have been a nice fit at Pitt. At least we’ll get to see him every year at Va Tech. Hope he doesn’t make Jamie regret not recruiting him harder, sooner.
Send a big Thank You note to the ESPN a-holes. Out of the 300 teams that play D1 basketball, they chose to show us…as their example..
Should do wonders for recruiting.
