I would like to hope this is not as bad as it looks, but it probably is.
Officers arrested Jovani Chappel, 25, about 1:30 p.m. after police spotted him sitting on the front porch of a home in the 5000 block of Lytle Street in Hazelwood, Pittsburgh police major crimes unit Lt. Kevin Kraus said.
Police went to the PNC Bank branch in the 4300 block of Murray Avenue in Greenfield about 10:40 a.m.
Lt. Kraus said a masked robber threatened the tellers with a gun, although it was not immediately clear if the tellers actually spotted one.
The robber hopped over the counter and took cash from several of the tellers’ drawers and then got into a car and drove away, police said.
A witness noted the license plate and gave it to police, who tracked it to Mr. Chappel’s girlfriend’s home in the 5100 block of Blair Street, Lt. Kraus said.
Members of the SWAT team surrounded the house and searched it and a few other homes in the area this morning, only to discover that Mr. Chappel was not there.
Officers found him sitting on the front porch of a home about two block away, on Lytle Street, about 1:30 p.m. It was not immediately clear what connection, if any, he had to that home.
Lt. Kraus said police were taking Mr. Chappel to the bureau’s North Side headquarters for questioning this afternoon and expect to charge him with robbery.
I’m setting the bar low, but I guess I would have thought anyone who graduated from Pitt would have been smart enough not to drive a getaway car with easily identifiable and traceable plates. Guess not.
I checked the old media guide. He was a communications major (which may explain why he needed to rob a bank).
Rev. George,
How about a picture of John Cena wearing a Pitt shirt, then?
Banks only keep $5K or less in cash, any Pitt grad should know this. He must have transferred in from Pedo State or WVcc.
it is every were.
so lets stop picking on pitt and move on to outher things .
i am with the REV on this .
Just because he is a graduate doesn’t mean
he learned anything. This really is
a very sad story. Also Contrary to our
President’s point of view not everyone
should attend college.
whatever it is, it wasn’t fast enough ! Hazelwood, he didn’t get to far away from campus. Poor kid, I do believe he transferred in from Purdue or somewhere. If all else fails, blame it on the Big Joke (10).
President’s point of view not everyone
should attend college.

The Crime Rate might quite possibly skyrocket if that was put into affect.
Wow… this stuff just shows how this administration just wants a different kind of player here now and into the future… how many kids from Whisky, PSU… stanford, etc. etc. are getting arrested for robbing a bank… just stupid.
So that is realistic but means they have to beat all they should… N. Carolina, Navy, Syracuse,…
Throw in one upset vs. FSU (hey we can dream), ND, V. Tech or Miami and they can be 8-4..
… so say they lose one they should have one… and have one upset…. 7-5.
I mean… if he were at least arrest for masterminding the sophisticated hacking of a bank computer system to steal millions and launder it through the global financial system at we would could at least be proud of his level of CS education….
The Stache is probably fired at some point anyhow due to the SI article, but perhaps he lasts a year longer…and the Haywood/Graham thing never happens.
…and some people wanna blame Pedersen for that when all along it was Chappel’s fault.
Had the punter not blown DW off we’d have our 10th mythical national championship.
Re: Chappel…
“Mr. Chappel’s family learned of his arrest from his girlfriend Monday afternoon, according to his father, Jeff Hall. Mr. Hall said a bank robbery did not seem characteristic of his son, who graduated from high school early, earned his bachelor’s degree and has been working as an insurance agent.”
… all positive things. Can anyone say “heroin addiction”? It sure sounds like it. It’s too damn sad really.
I would have thought this story would have given way to something about Florida State by now.
It should have, but rarely do you get material this rich for sarcasm and wise cracks. It’s like tossing a ribeye to an old dog.
A lot has been said about Chryst setting a new standard in his attempt to do things differently… that is building a winning D-1 football program with high-character student athletes.
For the first time I know of… Chryst shows just how aware he is of the big picture in regard to what he’s trying to accomplish.
In today’s Post Gazette, Chryst spells it out. He also goes one further by acknowledging the risk he’s taking in his effort to cut a new path in D-1 football away from the route typically taken by D-1 Coaches.
********
“I know that,” Chryst said. “But I still believe wins are a byproduct of doing everything else right.”
Chryst grinned.
Actually, he laughed.
“That’s what I’m banking on … We’ll see.”
********
These comments tell you just how much Chryst truly values doing things the “right way.”
A great experiment I think.
But amazing that a lifetime assistant coach who’s waited so long for his first shot at a head coaching job is willing to throw it all to the wind in his unwillingess to compromise on what he believes is the right way to run a D-1 football program.
This SHOULD earn a lof of people’s respect.
Success could put Pitt on the map for all the right reasons… for a change.
Contrary to the many who misinterpret his small-town Wisconsin ways… he is that sharp.
Like a fox.
How much time do you think the game announcers will spend talking about Pitt’s “Problems”? The drug house, the defections, Chapman, and now this.
They will even dredge up Haywood and Graham, and maybe Wanny and the SI article. The gift that keeps on giving.
Let’s hope the new plan stops the bleeding, and like the Rev and Frankcan want we can focus on football.
A huge win would be just what the Dr. ordered, right Tom.
Let’s Go Pitt!
But he blew it! (ha ha).
The past is history, can’t do one GD thing about history. On Monday however, Pitt could make some history. So I suggest we worry about what our boys can have an effect on. Grand opportunity come Monday night, who wants to grab the future by the short hairs and start the new era of Pitt football in the ACC on the correct note?
There was a player who stayed on the roster at Pitt but didn’t play after some highlight film performances. I have heard, but do not know for certain that he was addicted to H.
Two things. Wanny allowed that player to stay on the team after a brief suspension, AND, H destroys lives and families.
