Yeah, yeah. Football is just about upon us. I’m sure many of you slogged through at least a quarter of exhibition NFL football last night. Simply because: FOOTBALL!
Still there is the unresolved Sheldon Jeter saga. When last we left our hero, his appeal for release from Vanderbilt to go to Pitt was denied by Vanderbilt. Since then, nothing.
There have been no words on his plans. Will he enroll at another Pittsburgh school? Robert Morris? Duquesne? Will he go somewhere in Ohio West Virginia, where he can get home in under 3 hours? Kent St.? Marshall?
It seems Pitt still appears to be the destination he has in mind.
Sheldon Jeter and Isaac Hamilton are still searching for places to play next season. Jeter was initially blocked by Vanderbilt from transferring to Pitt, but a source said that is still where he’d like to land. Jeter still hasn’t found a home. The only certainty is that he’s not returning to Vandy. Hamilton hasn’t been in college yet, and wants out of his National Letter of Intent to play at UTEP. UTEP isn’t releasing him. Hamilton wants to play closer to home in Los Angeles, which could mean ending up at UCLA. But like Jeter, Hamilton might have to pay his own way if he isn’t let out of his NLI.
Hmm. This also jibes with what Rick Bozich in Louisville noted in a bit more about the new struggles for Kevin Stallings.
Stallings is losing nearly as many players as John Calipari — and they aren’t headed for the NBA. They’re just leaving the program.
Forward Kevin Bright, the team’s top rebounder, has signed a contract to play pro ball in Germany. Point guard Kedron Johnson, Vandy’s top scorer, has been dismissed from the university. Don’t forget that top freshman Sheldon Jeter announced that he intended to transfer to Pittsburgh, even though Stallings will not grant him a release to Jamie Dixon’s program.
There was one other transfer from Vandy in A.J. Astroth leaving for Towson. Plus another player from Germany is returning home. That means that Stallings and Vandy have lost their entire 2012 recruiting class. Now this is a bad summer for a program.
Is Jeter joining Pitt as a “walk-on” for a year? It wouldn’t surprise me. Pitt still has the scholarship open along with 2 available for 2014 (Zanna and Patterson).
Fall Camp tomorrow.
his own way can he.
(For those who might not remember, Pitt is viewed equally a football vs. basketball school.)
Jeter can pay his own way.
I say that tongue in cheek as there is all sorts of money they can tap into that is non-athletic scholarship and it is still a free ride for Jeter.
I’m sure we will hear of Jeter enrolling at Pitt soon and practice with the team.
i dont think he should.
there should be the same rule for every one after all we fired a coach for the same thing chapmen did
can he take only one class a semester and walk on???
Or do you have to be a full time student to play sports??
After thinking about it for a split second, I think I answered my own question, you’d have to be full time.
Imagine the can of worms that would open up if you only had to take one class.
Nevermind.
chapmen i have been out of town will pitt take him back
No announcement on Chapman from Pitt yet.
Which is a HUGE disappointment.
Real easy decision to make here.
People are saying 1st day of camp as media will be there and should be the 1st question out of a reporter. However, we are talking about Pitt beat reporters who don’t like to stir the pot.
they can take him back as i said we fired a coach for same thing.
every rule should be the same for every one QB or not.
maybe we dont want jeter any more we have only 2 to give next year if we take jeter.
and we are recruiting at least 16 players it might be nice to have 3 to to give insted of 2
