Flashback: 2004

Just watch in awe.

This 2004 commercial has haunted my dreams since Pitt to the ACC was announced back in 2011. Thanks so much to HokieTapes for sharing.

What I can’t decide is if I want a remake for 2013 or if I fear such an event.

#goacc

Maybe the new one will feature Roc passing the Maryland mascot as he dances out the door.

Off topic, but anyone remember Mike Bamiro? (I don’t)It seems he is generating NFL interest:

“Bamiro thought he was going to be playing for Stony Brook this fall but the NCAA denied his application for a 6th year, thus ending his college eligibility. Bamiro enrolled at Pittsburgh in 2008 but did not play football. After a year at Pitt he decided he wanted to play football and transferred to Stony Brook where two brothers had attended. Under NCAA rules, a player has five years to get in his four years of eligibility so the 2012 season was Bamiro’s 5th year in college and his last year of eligibility. In reality he was a member of last April’s draft class and because he was not drafted then he is free to sign with any team.”

The white back drop has an 80’s video feel to it.

The music and voice of the guy is just awful.

F-

Goes to show, someone making some big money somewhere, and that’s the best they could come up with??

I’m not even a creative person. The mascots work. How about on grass at a stadium. How about a deep John Facenda type voice, with music building to a crescendo. Have mascots lined up on either side of tunnel, drums beating, getting louder, and the new mascots come out.

I did better and had more ideas in a minute than that thing they “produced”.

FWIW, Big Ten going to 9 games starting in 2016.

After watching it again, the showtune song theme was way off. Way off. Misfire!

Comment by Dan 07.11.13 @ 4:30 pm

It was hokey. A hurricane should destroy it.

Actually I am being cavalier when I say it was downright demonic.

I’m giving up now. It’s like trying to catch a tiger by the tail.

I think you must have meant Watch in horror.

Comment by panther94 07.11.13 @ 6:21 pm

Big 10 has not ruled out a 10 game schedule in the future. Basically, the 9th conference game is replacing one of the “tune up” games with a real game. Better strength of schedule for the new playoff system, plus more product for their network. The 9 game conference schedule is the right move and the ACC must follow suit.

Seriously, the time is now for all NCAA BCS schools to stop playing non-BCS Schools. I think that Conference TV Networks will eventually push the leagues to 10 game schedules. Frankly, I would rather play FSU, Clemson, and all of the other Atlantic Division teams not named Syracuse, more than once every six years, than Bowling Green and YSU with an 8 game league schedule. With a 10 game schedule we would play the Atlantic Div teams once every other year.

HbgFrank, I don’t know how the ACC missed the boat on this one with their re-negotiated media deal. What better way to A) Bring in major revenue B) Reduce cost for the individual universities to find companies to deal with Tier 3 C) Increase recruiting impact about the quality of football D) Help with ticket sales being only 85% of the games sold out in the ACC.

This is almost as bad as the vitriolic anti-Catholic post Chas put on here a couple weeks back. Was actually just checking back to see it it had been taken down but it hasn’t. Ban continues. Fuck you Pitt Blather

My crystal ball shows:

(vision clarifying)

13 annual games and 10 conf. games.

Only way to actually have some conf. teams you play every lightyear or so.

With all the down time between last regular season game and bowl games, can easily squeeze a 13th game in there.

That way we can play Wake Forest more often 🙂

@ Dan35

It seems to be quite alright in 21rst century America to be anti-Catholic. And nobody is held accountable. Actually I think promoting it and the ppl that are promoting it are hypocrites and deserve exactly what they reap.

Comment by EMel 07.11.13 @ 10:36 pm

I know sometimes the blog veers off Pitt sports, but there is NO REASON for this blog to comment on religion. Not called for at all !

Comment by EMel 07.11.13 @ 10:40 pm

Hopefully it does get pushed this way. 10 would be great.

Then have two spots for a rival, two rivals, or play someone else from a BCS conference.

You would still get 6 home, 6 away.

Now, you wouldn’t get the 7th game. I believe, without any stats to back me up, that 6 strong home games, would get you almost, if not more attendance, than 5 strong home games, and two games against Delaware and YSU.

All of the above reasons you guys gave are excellent. Strength of schedule, playing the teams every couple years instead of 5 or 6. Saves money, keeps money in the conference.

Now, if you told me, it will take away from exciting games from teams across the country we could play. We all know that’s not true.

Pretty much standard. Conf games, 2 half-decent, 2 cupcakes.

I’m done with cupcakes.

Pretty shocking that this video was made in 2004. It has a very late-80’s/early-90’s feel to it, for some reason.

Comment by PatMac 07.12.13 @ 10:46 am

Am I missing something here? What post was “anti-Catholic”? I seriously doubt Chas would insult anyone in a Pitt blog undeservedly (I’m looking at you, Fraud Graham)

2$Chuck – Emel is referring to that “Open Letter to the ACC” that was posted up on here a couple of weeks ago.

I totally agree and that post was an affront on many different levels.

Reed, I must admit I did not read that post down to the ND section when it was posted because I found no humor in it after the first paragraph. Upon a full reading, I still find no humor in it. In fact, I would say that it should be removed lest we look like a community of jerks to our new ACC brethren.
