A couple days ago I got Chris Peak of PantherLair to put a rough over under on commits by the end of the month.
The last two days has him one shy, as Pitt added a second verbal for the day.
While not the pedigree of Grimm, they added an athlete-WR-S from Philly. Patrick Amara from West Catholic.
He’s a 3-star to 2-star to unrated player who visited Pitt the previous week and picked up an offer. He’s got good size at 6-2 and is roughly 170 pounds.
His other offers are admittedly not impressive. Low MAC to 1-AA programs (and UCF). But Pitt liked what they saw in him. Here’s a collection of his highlights (warning, autoplay).
With Briggs, who had an offer from Yale, at least there won’t be any missed assignments (like the 2 RBs we had last year)
you have to think if it was a panic move they could wait for 12 weeks and get him then,
but they took him now so they saw something they liked but time will tell.
I do admit that you were far from the only one (and I was certainly concerned) who were panicked, but at least it appears you will be able to finally get some sleep.
But then, there’s the SEC
Anyone could see they were a top 10 team and not a top 2 team, but you can’t keep a team out of the NC game when they go undefeated against quality opponents. ND did their part and deserved a shot, something no one else in college football could say they earned.
Bama is the team who was lucky to be there. They didn’t do their part (loss to aTm)and it could be argued Oregon deserved it just as much as they did.
my point was if you read what i said if they just wanted to fill the class they could have got him later if they took him now it means they wanted him
i have not bitched abought the stars a kid has only that we werent geting commits.
but now i am very plesed.
So until Chryst falls flat on his recruiting face by failing to assemble adequate quanity and quality players to fill the needs for the holes in the roster I feel that we have to remain patient as Pitt fans and let him do his frickin job. It’s a process. Last year’s recruiting class looks good on paper, this year’s is obviously still a work in progress and we won’t know the answer to whether he did a good job or not for at least a couple more seasons. Time will tell.
as per my response to Dan 83 at the bottom of the QB thread… someone always finds something to be negative about…
….
Grimm is the fifth recruit to commit to Pitt in the class of 2014 and the second offensive lineman, joining Traverse City (Mich.) guard Connor Hayes, Shady Side Academy athlete Dennis Briggs, Maria Stein (Oh.) quarterback Adam Bertke, and Newburgh (NY) Free Academy safety Jalen Williams.
At this rate, we will be in the Top 20 by Sunday.
We need to remember the dynamics the immediate time frame before the opening game. It isn’t an excuse but Chryst laid the wood to six payers including three starters just three hours before the kickoff.
That sent a shock wave through a team that was on sketchy footing with a new, rookie HC and shot morale right away.
I was talking with about five guys at a tailgate when that news broke and right off I said “We are going to lose this game” because I knew the team, coming of their former HC leaving under the dead of night, wasn’t strong enough.
It took two weeks for that to lessen and for Chryst to get the team focused enough to play decent football.
Now, one may call that a rookie HC mistake but what Chryst did was stick to the responsibilities he had to the team in other way – along the standards and discipline area.
No doubt PITT should have won that game and I believe they would have if those six players didn’t get in trouble the night before the game. But this is what happens in college football – especially with a new HC and new staff.
As I always say, “that’s why they play the games”.
