Hope you weren’t thinking that you will see FSU visit Heinz Field more frequently than once a decade or so. The ACC released the football home and away crossover match-ups for the next ten years on a nice color coded PDF.
Pitt will face division opponents in the Coastal every year. Those teams are Virginia Tech, Miami, UNC, GT, Duke and Virginia. In addition, Syracuse will be Pitt’s cross-division annual opponent. Or “rival” I suppose. That covers seven games. After that it’s a rotation through the other six teams in the Atlantic division.
With Notre Dame rotating through five games against ACC teams per year, there is no way that the ACC will be moving to a 9-game schedule. That’s what makes the decision to stick with a permanent cross-division opponent so questionable. It is clear that it was done for the benefit of keeping FSU-Miami as an annual match-up. Not to mention placating NC State for not being in the same division as UNC and Duke with an annual UNC game. Otherwise there makes little sense in having permanent cross-over games.
Here’s the Coastal Division:
There won’t be a home game with Clemson until 2021. BC is 2019. NC State is 2017. Obviously part of the solution would be to rework the divisions to have the actual rivalries stay intact and damn the chances of imbalance in the divisions. Keep the four North Carolina schools in the same division. Let Miami and FSU be in the same. Junk the permanent division cross-over game. This would allow for two cross division games per year. It would still take time to cycle through conference opponents from the other division, but it wouldn’t take six years.
This is something the Big 10 finally acknowledged with a more geographic alignment after scrapping Legends and Leaders.
For now, though, the ACC is committing itself to the present format.
games for me.
and are bowl line up for 2014 will be great.
the poor AAC the old big east has one bowl game
tie in for 2014 they have the the beef o brady.
we will have 9 you have to love the ACC any game is a good game.
The North division would look like the old Big East.
Pitt, BC, Syracuse, Louisville, VTech, Virginia, + NC school.
5 of the 7 are former Big East schools.
I hope the word “geography” is not on their minds.
Fine with what they’ve done. Knew it would be this way.
Get to see someone new from the other division every year, plus, when we’re in the championship game, it will be from the other division.
Throw in Notre Dame, Penn State, another BCS team and one cupcake.
Schedules handled for quite awhile.
They’re gone, so, Syracuse, blah, but whatever.
notice, I said, “plus we’ll see another team from the other division in the Championship game”.
How much more optimism do you want???
But I like how the ACC is setup. Perhaps the only thing that may change in the future is the yearly cross-over game. I’d rather see 2 teams from other division every year on a rotating basis. That would mean we would see FSU, etc more often than current format.
At least Pitt is stable with teams in the east.
That conference is pretty top heavy
Tired of the negativity. Pitt now belongs
to an outstanding conference with outstanding
schools. Rivalries will happen when
Pitt starts beating good teams. Congrats
to the administration for exiting the BE!
I’d rather not have Syracuse. Not a rivalry.
Any Syracuse fans out there, don’t troll. Love the Pitt Syracuse basketball rivalry, but, I don’t think football has really ever been a rivalry. We’ve played a lot, that’s about it.
Syracuse fans would probably rather see two different teams a year besides Pitt too.
Some new helmets, new uniforms, new destinations, new stadiums.
All in all though, being in the ACC is like hitting the jackpot.
Love the division we’re in, would like to see 2 different teams also, but for now, Syracuse will be ok.
Hell, if Pitt and Syracuse will up their programs and both get into the top 25, it will become a rivalry on its own if they’re playing meaningful games.
PSU is the rival game in my opinion. Not Cuse.
I’d rather see FSU, clemson, etc more often than Syracuse every year if I had a vote on it. But I don’t. lol
Clemson’s rival game is South Carolina for instance. Don’t know why ACC needs a “rival” game within the Conference.
Thanks,
So we’re in a conf. with Duke, UNC, VPI, UVA, Miami & Georgia Tech & Syracuse.
Who would have ever thought that, back in 1982 circa Marino’s Jr. year. I’m sure Cuse is thinking the same thing.
Wait, FSU isn’t even on the schedule for a return trip to Pittsburgh thru…….wait……
2024
Is that a joke or what !
It never comes close to selling out !
I like PittDan83 would rather see Clemson, FSU on a more regular basis.
Also I think PITT-Va.Tech would have been a better rival game for us. And better overall for the league than BC-Va.Tech. BC-Cuse, PITT-Va.Tech makes more sense both regionally and conf. wise.
This is all so new, my bad !
Guess I’m getting nervous.
Cincinnati and Pitt, who will go their separate ways next season as the Bearcats compete in the American Athletic Conference while the Panthers head to the ACC, will meet on Dec. 17 in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York City as one of two high-profile games in the annual event.
Hey we’re expected to get our asses kicked. So if we lose, no big deal.
But if we can pull the upset, as we did last year over Va Tech., it can make the season, get people excited again about Pitt football and possibly launch us into the rankings. And then who knows!
So to me…games against the top teams are win/wins.
Plus, if they’re good enough, FSU will be able to play us in the championship game.
I think we’ll be facing Clemson and Louisville a lot in the championship game too!!!!!!!!!
I guess it really depends on who wins the Atlantic division… that will be very telling as to who we would get to play each year in the ACC championship game.
Jimmy V was one of my favorite coaches and I had the great privilege of listening to him nightly as I travelled thru NC in the 80’s as a sales rep.
Glad we were chosen…but a bad year to be in it.
The absurd time in between visits in cross division.
They just mentioned Florida State will next visit Pitt in 2025 after this year.
I don’t think some of us will be around then !
So it should insure some sellouts for some of the ACC games.
Come now…..it might be your last chance to see Clemson, FSU, NC State, etc……..EVER ! 🙂
The Athlon ACC preview issue had:
a player from both UNC & NC State on the cover down here, just saw a copy last night.
And Pitt is ranked #52 in the country, I believe.
It was too depressing to actually buy a copy.
8 games. 4H 4A.
If we go to a 9 game schedule and ND joins, will it change dramtically?
No.
The Big Ten is incentuous because they don’t want to share revenue outside their league AND they want to continue to pretend they are good by playing no one of consequnece in their Out of conference schedule.
Michigan is whining about losing ND forever…we get to share them and PSU.
I care about Pitt and no one else.
This is a win for Pitt and I’m glad for it!
