Clearly this was the immediate impact of rehiring Barry Rohrssen as an assistant. It certainly couldn’t have been anything else involved in recruiting a kid for the last few weeks. Uchebo is going to be coming to Pitt.
So, there is some help on the big man front.
pitt gets its center great now 2 more players.
Would have to think that (1) promise of much T, (2) having a high school teammate, (3) playing in ACC, and (4) playiing with a fellow countryman (Zanna) all factored into it … just wonder what took so long (guess the visit to Minnesota over the weekend worked to our benefit.)
Now, for the new on campus stadium and the change back to Pitt script and we are all good!!
Is it Mike??
lol Wayne
He probably told Uchebo to forget visiting Manhattan and walah….you get him !
Now we don’t have to play Zanna exclusively at the 5. Which will make the defense a lot better.
And Mike Young won’t have to play 30 minutes/game immediately.
Very good get !!
And he’s not a beanpole (not that Adams was either), Uchebo is 6’11” 265lbs.
That’s a spaceeater almost on the order of Aaron Gray. And Slice is known as a very good big man coach (see Gray, Chevy Troutman)
Our big men were more physical back then so hopefully Slice’s return will also return that physicality.
HTP !
5/6/2013 – 2014 SG Robert Johnson (6-3, 190, 2?) has received an offer from Pittsburgh. – Per Rivals
5/4/2013 – 2014 SF Trevon Bluiett (6-5, 205, 4?) | Overall Rank: 43 | Position Rank: 15 has received an offer from Pittsburgh. – Per Jeff Rabjohns, Rivals
5/2/2013 – 2014 SF Terry Larrier (6-7, 205, 2.7?) | Position Rank: 31 has received an offer from Pittsburgh. – Per Rivals
As you can see, he was a 4 star and he’s grown over 2 inches since then.
5/6/2013 – JUCO C Joseph Uchebo (6-9, 240, 4?) | Overall Rank: 80 | Position Rank: 12 signed with Pittsburgh. – Per Ryan James, Gopher Illustrated
While Rohrssen should certainly be a plus for Pitt, as i posted above, Pitt was a near perfect fit for Uchebo.
Do 2 Blew(ui)-itt’s trump 4 Tra(e)(y)von’s ?
Number like gazillion on the Tour.
Drove a rental car from Georgia to Charlotte to get there !!! But made sure he switched out rentals to avoid the $1000 drop off fee. Sounds like Tin Cup.
nothing on it . as for jj i dont know
i think he will be ok now jc stuff was good.
if his knee is ok i think we are a go.
at pitt it looks like nokos ali the 7 foot center
or foward depending were you read abought him is
comeing to pitt for a vist.
may be we go from really small to really big
that is ok i sure hope it all comes out that way go get him slice.
His style of play is better suited for Pitt than Adams, being slower getting up the court knowing your a first round NBA pick but only playing 23 minutes a game and only getting 6 touches. Not being frustrated having his offensive game limited to under the basket like Adams felt limited by his coach in his offense game not being able to face the hoop and putting the ball on the floor or taking the 20 foot jumper.
Hopefully he is at least as good as McGhee, that should not be to much to ask since Zanna cannot play center. The other hope is that Young can start as a freshman because we know Zanna is not a starting 4.
With Adams and Robinson, and Woodall graduated I was very excited, if Dixon left Adams play, about Pitt being a tough match up in the ACC. Adams would have dominated Robinson could provide defense on the perimeter and Young would of added muscle inside that should of been dominated inside.
Ronbinson is the real deal, if Uchebo can provide bulk in the lane he is not going to be like Adams taking 10 points from the opponents between 2010-2012 and 2012-2013 but he can if Young can contribute immediately muscle inside.
Same question were do the points come from. Robinson will add 8 more a game this year but who else.
Despite my dissapointments that I still do not attribute to Adams family-do some research his family is not the destitue family made out in the press (consider they live in New Zealand not yhe U.S. with a strong saftey net – an olymian sister who has made considerable money and 2 brothers who played professional basketball in New Zealand). The 18 siblings was the story he was not a gang member as we know it and he went to a private school. He left Pitt because his NBA status dropped from Addidas summer camp and Prep were he dominated Noles. 23 minutes per game for a first round draft pick sharing equal time with Dante Taylor we need to stop kidding ourselves.
Birch, Zeigler, and possibly Moore and Wright, not to count Gilbert and Johnson.
One has to only look south to our toothless friend’s blogs about the previous impending implosion of the ACC.
Just wishful thinking, like their toothfairy dreams of missed riches with all those missing teeth.
P.S. If Wright leaves, no big deal, it just gives Slice another scholarship to work with. Don’t see his role expanding much what with Chris Jones as a 2G and Newkirk coming in and Durand Durand could play there as well.
So basically a Junior/Senior version of Sam Young.
While Rohrssen should certainly be a plus for Pitt, as i posted above, Pitt was a near perfect fit for Uchebo.
