Early lines out include the season/ACC/home opener for Pitt-FSU.
The betting lines for seven opening week games were released Tuesday by RJ Bell of Pregame.com. Florida State’s Sept. 2 Labor Day opener at Pittsburgh was one of them. According to a consensus of oddsmakers that include 5 Dimes, Bovada, Sportsbook.com and Bookmaker, the Seminoles will be an 8.5-point favorite when they face the Panthers at Heinz Field.
The season opener will serve as Pitt’s official welcome to the ACC. The Panthers are starting play in the conference after leaving the Big East later this summer. Pitt will be joined by fellow former Big East school Syracuse. FSU hosts Syracuse Nov. 16.
In addition to serving as Pitt’s first game in the ACC, the opener will mark the first time in two seasons a quarterback other than EJ Manuel or Clint Trickett have started a game for the Seminoles. Redshirt freshman Jameis Winston is the favorite to make his first career start against the Panthers.
8.5 points in May. Plenty of time for that line to move above 10.
Frustratingly, if this is the worst thing about Pitt today, it’s a good day.
tomorrow.
cant happen fast enough for me dont know if he can save this year but we will be all right next year
i have faith brother i have faith we have been saved just dunk your self in the ohio we have been saved jump up and down throw your hand in the air

The Man can close !!!
My pick is Knight who apparently couldn’t even recruit his own relation
Maybe JD has been reading our pleas for Slice, lol
Best news at PITT since a certain QB lost his eligibility to play.
Welcome Back Slice ! (the Man loves Pizza)
what are the odds we sign a player in the next
10 days
A lot better than they were yesterday ! 🙂
that is odd the post hates pitt and the trib is first with pitt storys most days.
but have been looking at tweets all night
and pitt is really after SG for 2014 it seams to
be what they want most.
i dont get it it would seam to me what they need most is 2 centers but i could live with one.
a SG would be nice but you go no were with out
a center we have players who can play SG even if
not great but who the hell plays center
a 6 foot 9 PF who isent that good and will be gone next year any way.
it would seam unless we get a center this year
that we need a center more then SG.
64 teams make the NCAA Tournament for Baseball (Regionals)… Conference champions and filled with at large. there are 16 regionals of four teams each all at host sites (Top seed). These are double elimination tournaments which get us down to the sweet 16 (Super Regionals). The super regionals are best of three matchups between two of the regional winners. This gets you down to the final eight. This is the College World Series. Here again you are in pods of four and play double elimination until we are down to the final two teams playing for the national championship.
Projections have Pitt as a 2 seed in a South Carolina regional.
The furthest Pitt ever made it was the in 1995. The setup was different back then with only 48 teams in the tourney. We were a five seed in the 6 team Tennessee bracket and pulled a nice upset of 3 seed California before falling to the 2 seed Oklahoma State.
All for them!!! Hope they get on ESPN for some games.
Hopefully the ACC can help the Pitt softball team. Before my Dad passed away a few years ago, for many years, we enjoyed watching the girls softball tournament.
My Dad played in lots of fast pitch leagues back in the 40’s and 50’s. I guess they were a pretty big thing. I think that’s why we started watching because of that, and got hooked.
I’m sure my Dad is happy when he looks down on me, to see I still watch the softball tourney.
Hail to Pitt in all the sports. Put em’ on tv, I’ll watch em’!!!
When we get to the ACC, I will also be attending some baseball and softball games. Maybe even some soccer!!
well in NY
HERE is a list of 5 players pitt wants very bad in 2014 and were there from.
whitehead from brooklyn ny
garrington brooklyn ny
beaufort ny
moore linden nj
williams long island ny
so even if that were true which i dont bye
look were the kids dixon wants are from
6 foot 10 center and were is he from
middle village ny .
or i should say that i know they are looking at
uchebo
ali both are 6 foot 11
and chad frazier the 6 foot 4 SG
every one else they were looking at went some
were else.which means they lost out on 8 or 9 players
if there is a new list i have not seen it
there are not many good player left any way.
JD played more Zone defense this past year than ever and more recently realized he needs more help in ‘closing’ recruiting prospects. So that’s a big plus and that he’s willing to admit he’s still learning too and he doesn’t have all the answers.
Bringing back Slice is a huge step in the right direction as he’s a Brooklyn, NY guy and they ain’t(emphasis) bashful. And I think in today’s world of recruiting unless you’re a blue blood program, you need a street smart guy on your staff who know’s how to close.
Heck I wouldn’t be surprised if Slice convinces JJ to stay and we end up with Uchebo.
There are more upsides for both at Pitt than anywhere else !!!
The Arizona State Sun Devils landed the third member of their 2013 recruiting class on Thursday, as 6?-6? small forward Sai Tummala of Salt Lake CC pledged to the program, according to a release from Salt Lake CC. Where he was a JUCO All-American this past season.
During his only season in junior college, Tummala scored 14.8 points per game, and snagged 5.9 rebounds. He shot 50% from the field, and 40% from beyond the arc. He reportedly had scholarship offers from a long list of programs, which included the Texas Longhorns, Minnesota Gophers, Georgia Bulldogs, Pittsburgh Panthers and BYU.
PITT fans seem to have a new mantra regarding the future QB play…’At least we have someone who can come from behind to win”. Oh, really?
Which makes me scratch my head a bit. At this point we don’t have that. Savage had one game where the team was three points down at the half against Maryland in 2009 when Maryland was 2-10 and the dregs of D1 football. Other than that no ‘come from behind’ wins.
Who knows what Voytik may do out there but it’s no guarantee he’ll be able to pull a team along either. We’ll know more in October but right now I’m thinking that may be wishful thinking on our part.
I think the fans underestimate what type of impact the dismissals and suspensions have on team morale. There was a reason we lost to YSU and it sure wasn’t because we were less talented than they were.
I was at a pre-YSU game tailgate when the news of the six suspensions hit – I turned to my buddy and said… “We’re going to lose this game”. He thought I was joking but I told him I wasn’t and we promptly went out and played like a HS team.
I’m starting to feel the same way about this 2013 season. We don’t have a strong base at all to start with coming off a 6-7 season. Our offense is in disarray with only one skill position starter returning. We have no idea what our OL will do. Our HC has yet to show he can use any coaching skills to win a tough game and on top of that we have established starters transferring or being dismissed from the team.
Not good at all.
My hope is that they don’t watch the Kentucky Derby together and Pitino Sr’s horse wins it
Chris Dokish ?@ChrisDokish 11h @MattSteinbrink btw, from what I’m told it was pretty much a money issue with every assistant that left. Shameful.
If true, just like cutting the FB recruiting budget a few years back and paying the the coach and staff the lowest in the conference, I’m just not sure how much this administration is committed to achieving great success. And if so, no coaches should be fired if they are finishing near the top of the conference.
I would hope that at least the new ACC money would filter more money into the FB and BB budget, but who knows? Maybe HCPC was more or less forced to hire House as DC.
Reed, far be it from me to “diss” on the contributors on this discussion board. I was just commenting on the “presentation” of some of that discussion, when future speculation is offered up as if historical fact before the events ever transpire, then I have to take issue with that.
Pitt football has become a sports guy’s equivalent to a reality TV show like “The Real Housewives of Where Ever” that my daughter loves to watch because of all the DRAMA!! Even with the stability provided by Coach Chryst hanging around for two consecutive seasons, the players continue to provide enough “drama” to keep even the casual Pitt fan wringing his hands in worry and dispair about the future of the program.
Myself, I’m looking forward to this season, not so much because I think that we are going to go out and shock the world with our gridiron prowess, but more so, I’m interested in seeing who decides that they want to step up to assume the responsibility of providing leadership and direction to this team going forward.
Coach Chryst has layed down the gauntlet for this team, and in essence has challenged the individuals on this team to take personal responsibility for the future fortunes of this team. Some players have already clearly demonstrated that they care not to assume those roles (Rushel Shell), others have fumbled the ball badly in regards to their personal conduct, (Williams & Carswell). Now it is up to those that remain, to pick up the pieces and reassemble a team that has failed to show the synergy and spirit of a winning program over the last few years. Those kinds of trials and tribulations will be interesting to see pan out, hopefully for the betterment of Pitt football down the raod.
That is a huge endeavor for a first time head coach to take on, and who knows, that very issue could have been a major factor on the reason for Fraud Graham’s sneaking out of the back door to ASU in the middle of the night, if he had no desire to deal with that level of impending BS he saw coming down the pike.
The hand writing is pretty clearly displayed on the wall IMO though, somebody has to be responsible for the current state of affairs. IMO, the buck stops at the AD’s doorstep. Pederson’s “got some splainin to do”, and I don’t think that he has the correct answers up his sleeve for those questions to be answered to Pitt fan’s satisfaction. I’ve been very quiet on this discussion up to this point but NOW I’m agreeing with those who are calling for a change in the leadership at the very top of the athletic dept.
I wish we could find out, or have an idea of where our assistants stand.
Mind you, I don’t want to know everything about our budget, that’s for them to handle. Just like a business, they don’t have time to go over every minute detail with every fan. I get that, I understand that.
I would like to know, in general, where our assitants pay stands in the college football world, and more concisely, where we will stand in the ACC.
Just to show I’m not nuts, I’m not looking for the top salaries in a new conference.
I believe being fair, would be to have your coaches being paid in the top half of a conference. I don’t think that’s crazy.
I’d like to know that. And as Dr. Tom stated about future speculation, if we knew this, then we wouldn’t have to discuss it.
If we don’t know, it will be discussed and worried about.
Maybe the info is out there??
I think it’s fair of a fan to want to know that at least the coaches are being paid appropriately.
I mean, if they’re not, then what are we all doing on here discussing Pitt at all???
1) Wanny made about $1m in base salary and was the lowest paid coach in the BE in 2010
2) After the Haywood fiasco, Stevie petitioned Nordy to ante up for Graham who made approx $2m.
3) I have no idea what Chryst is being paid.
4) Dixon is paid just under $2m in base (FWIW, approx $1m less than Buzz Williams), and allegedly he turned down offers from ASU, Ore and USC which was much more (??)
I have no idea what Pitt assistant caoches are making … just that tweet from Dokish that assistants supposedly left because of pay
Attendance is best remedy.
Actually you can go back to Jock Sutherland who left over financial and academic issues.
But I’m not so sure I disagree with the University wanting to keep a budget in the athletic department and then sticking to it. It isn’t like PITT has a lot of donors willing to pony up $$$ to make up where the budgets leave off either.
After all the school’s real missions are not athletic and never have been really. No, I think the problem is that we aren’t handling the ‘business’ of major athletics well even given the financial restraints.
Dr. Tom – I too am looking forward to the season given the surrounding drama. I keep telling people that my favorite season so far in the last decade was the 2007 season with all the twists and turns.
Or do you pederson. Pay them poorly and when they do well, they leave. Great flippin plan! This would never be accepted in the business world. Maybe we sign another fb prospect this week!
