Tuesdays are a bad day right now. The schedule has me away from a computer from the time I take the kids to school until sometime after I get the kids to bed.
Seems I missed a few things.
The unsurprising first. A couple players dismissed from the team in light of recent activities at their apartment.
Juniors Drew Carswell and Eric Williams are now gone from the team. The third player suspended in the incident, Khaynin Mosley-Smith, remains suspended indefinitely.
“We have strict and clear standards regarding these types of behaviors,” Chryst said in a statement released on Friday afternoon. “What has occurred with these three young men does not represent the standards of our program or university.”
I don’t know why Mosley-Smith was not dismissed from the team. It doesn’t mean he won’t be, but his status may be a little more gray. I have a speculation, but I don’t know if it is so.
When the police were ready to move in with their search warrant, Mosley-Smith was leaving the place.
Police obtained a search warrant for the house, and as they prepared to enter, a man identified as Khaynin Mosley-Smith, 21, left the house.
Mosley-Smith, a member of the Pitt football team, told police that he lived there.
When police searched the home early Friday, they found drug packaging material and paraphernalia. Also inside were Pitt players Eric Williams, 20, and Andrew Carswell, 21. Police found a digital scale with white residue in Carswell’s bedroom.
It is hard to believe he didn’t know who Reed-Young was and what he did. But, it could very well be that he wanted nothing to do with the activities of the drug dealer Carswell brought to their place. Which would explain why he was leaving the place after 1 am on a Thrusday night/Friday morning. Or at least it’s possible.
So his situation is still unclear. My guess is, Chryst and the Pitt administration are trying to determine whether suspension or dismissal would be best in his case.
That was not the case with Williams and (especially) Carswell. They were inside with the dealer. They were apparently cool with him setting up shop in their place.
But, wait. There’s more.
Freshman quarterback Tra’von Chapman faces a pretrial hearing May 28 in Portage County, Ohio, on misdemeanor assault and unlawful restraint charges, according to court records.
Kent police say Chapman, 18, pulled the hair of a female and grabbed her around the neck Friday night, “leaving marks,” a criminal complaint states.
Chapman pleaded not guilty Tuesday at an arraignment in municipal court in Kent. His father, Thad Jemison, posted $1,150 bond, and Tra’von Chapman was released. A condition of his bond is that he have no contact with the alleged victim.
Chapman has been — to no one’s surprise — suspended indefinitely. The alleged assault took place at his home in Kent.
What a frickin’ unbelievable time. I’m not to the point where I’m under a table clutching a bottle of bourbon. But the bottle is on the table talking to me.
Pitt is finally getting to stability at the conference level. The revenues from media contracts are about to jump tremendously. And yet, it feels like complete chaos.
villain.
Chapman is the icing on the cake because in a million years I would be willing to bet that nobody who visits this thread saw this type of behavior coming….WOW!!
The basketball situation is almost beyond chaos with Jamie badly needing an assistant who can help him recruit…at the rate we are going walk ons will be our bench.
I have to believe that Chancellor Nordenberg is not in a very good frame of mind these days…and I truly believe that Smiling Stevie is now skating on VERY thin ice.
just how deep this friendship/fraternity is between Smiling Boy and Nordy.
Cause somebody has to go and it can’t be Chryst.
Ray Meyer, Hank Iba, Don Haskins, Lou Henson, Lefty Dresell, Roy Williams, Billy Donavan, Rick Pitino nor even John Calipari have EVER gotten a 10 year contract extension.
It’s unheard of !!!
Does anyone remember the lifetime contract given to
FB coach Mike Gottfried??
Wonder if PC thinks about the opportunity at Wisconcin?
Negative pub sucks however similar situations exist across the
country. Improved pre-screening process will help on a go forward basis. In the meantime we are mired in mediocrity and doomed to 500 records. Painful.
Some of you are quick to blame Chryst, which you can do only over time if he recruits thugs or doesn’t discipline for legit cases.
Mark Richt, Urban Meyer, and a bunch of others have rap sheets large enough to fill a phone book, and conveniently suspend players for the first game, usually against a nobody opponent, or if the offender is a third stringer act tough and free up a scholarship.
I am going to wait on the facts and not tar Chapman until facts come out. If you’ve ever watched “cops” you know anytime a woman even makes a claim they arrest now and figure if the guy is innocent it will be cleared up in the courts.
Too much missing information and so far Chryst is following the right path on righting our ship. He has my support.
We all know how rock solid those coaches contracts are, I think they’re written in chalk?
The AD has destroyed the football program. We need to get this A Hole out of Oakland.
What upset me the most is that it was apparent the the AD had no plan or replacement in mind when he let Wanny go .. which was apparent within the 1st week. The 2 people he originally contacted (Holgerson and Golden) were already taken, and the next 2 (Graham and Sumlin) were making much more money than he was offering. In other words, he made the VERY SAME MISTAKE that got him fired at Nebraska.
Chancelor Nordenberg … you do realize, sir, that the important task that an D1 AD has is to hire a good football coach who was at least better than the one who was fired, don’t you?
We do have too many problem players on the football team. There was never any evidence Chapman was one of them. It just sucks that it happened now.
He was made out to be a high character kid with all the intangibles of great leadership.
Regardless if the charges are dismissed… don’t know how they can possibly keep him in light of the Haywood fiasco.
Calling Arizona.
Sorry, just trying to infuse some humor today!
– note that in the 3 years prior to Wanny’s firing/ Fraud’s hiring. Wanny has slightly better record playing in the BE than Graham in CUSA
– Wanny was ridiculed endlessly here for losing close games, punting on the plus side of the field, and calling unnessary, premature time outs. Yet, all 3 of these three were very prevalent in Graham’s year here. (and at least Wanny didn’t pull hamstring running down the field and taking one of thos timeouts.)
Again… VaTech, Temple, Rutgers and Notre Dame last year were all total-team performances that neither Graham or Wannstedt would have been able to muster with the same group of players.
As for Wannstedt… take away one player named McCoy… and the record looks quite a bit different.
NO win at WVU… NO win at ND… just to name two.
Oh, and no contract extension.
Just another reach by the anti-Wanny bias here …. don’t let the facts get in the way of your opinions
again, don’t let the facts get in your way!!
If you’re referring to Bostick, then thanks for reminding me.
Didn’t Pat Bostick have at least two more come-from-behind wins than Tino?
In that case, let me rephrase…
As for Wannsetedt… take away one player named McCoy and any quarterback NOT named Tino… and the record looks quite a bit different.
NO win at WVU… NO win at ND… just to name two.
Thanks for helping me get the facts straight.
And since you brought up the name Tino .. please note that the alleged non-offensive coach won 8 games with Tino in his very first year as starter. But the the following 2 alleged offensive gurus only won 6 …. and please don’t tell me the BE was better the past 2 years.
For the 3rd straigh time …. DON’T LET THE FACTS….
Just making lemonaid out of lemons here. BTW, Chapman pleaded NOT GUILTY. I don’t know if anyone on this thread has ever been falsely accussed of something, but it a very disheartening feeling to know that your innocent of wrong doing when otherswith nothing more than their own opinion to offer, have already passed judgement in the court of public opinion. FYI, people have been known to lie from time to time. Maybe it is Chapman doing it, maybe the woman involved is the liar. Could be a combination of “all of the above”. The world is a complicated place, let things come out in the wash before judgement is passed on this one just yet.
HTP
Would any other team in the same class as PITT fire those guys based on their W/L records alone? No they wouldn’t. They had to be an outside catalyst involved in these two guys dismissal.
PITT hadn’t had any whiff of championship ball since Sherrill left in the early ’80s and yet we kept coaches employed who did way worse than either Harris or DW. Then, however, all of a sudden we are asked to believe that PITT did a 180 and fired those HCs due to lack of championships? Even after they both gave us the best football we’ve had in decades?
See that bridge over there? Yours for $1000 dollars.
