Flying home from Houston today. If we could avoid any more transfers or quitting the team today, that would be great.
On the bright side, at least Mike Rice isn’t/wasn’t Pitt’s basketball coach.
I’m still going to go to the games.
but we will be screwed in BB next year are fult
or not no depth no center.
and even with the recruits only 10 men on the team
for next year at this point .
Rice is a despicable character. AD should
be terminated for allowing this situation
to exist.
And anyone that thinks he should’ve stayed one more year needs only to visit the Greg Oden Wikipedia page. Big men are prone to chronic leg injuries, so it’s imperative to get paid as soon as possible.
Sorry, but we know this was a possibility from day one of his career.
Maybe both of our programs should mostly recruit and be satisfied with 3 stars.
are any good most are jc players but they are centers who have not signed with any one yet.
joseph uchebo 6 foot 11 chipola jc.
robert ojeah 6 foot 9 tec cc
ajak magot 6 foot 11 az cc
darius lewis 6 foot10 img academy florida
lucas stivrins 6 foot 11 pratt cc
rozell nix 6 foot 11 kingdom prep
jordan robinson 6 foot 8 nc prep school
i am not saying they are any good but there are jc centers out there if dixon wants one this was not the whole list but enough for you to get the point.
I can dream can’t I?
Meanwhile Pitt’s BB program is toast…of course with another 11 rent a wins (I hope) Pitt might get to 20 wins again and everyone can praise the great and powerful Dixon again. Wash, rinse & throw-up…
Jackagain..GET A LIFE!!!
Rent some academic misfits who will major in learning how to read a digital clock and allow them to run around for a season and shuffle off to the NBA.
….and do the same thing every year..then Jamie would be a GREAT coach, a great recruiter and Pitt would eventually be placed on probation or wore for eliminating All ACADEMIC STANDARDS, but, Jackagain we will have great BB teams..WOWEEE!!
What I wonder about is whether Dixon is capable of coaching up a team that lacks a big true center. We’ve never succeeded without one — ie 2011-2012, which is the only year we’ve been without one in Dixon’s tenure. So what happens now?
(cue the negative nancies: “We’re all gonna die, Pitt is toast, Dixon should be tarred and feathered for not controlling things that no mortal can control but whatever i don’t need to make sense I’m a Pitt fan!!!”)
But his leaving has nothing to do with Dixon not using him properly. No…..he just stunk is all…or Malcolm Gilbert transferring to powerhouse Fairfield has nothing to do with Dixon.
It’s just a run of coincidental bad luck that players are leaving the program like the Pete is on fire(cough).
When a player leaves a Big East powerhouse to play at Fairfield, does that say more about the coach or the player? If it was an issue with the coach and not a desire to play with his brother, I’m certain Gilbert could of played major college basketball — he just doesn’t have the ambition.
My heart and best wishes go out to Kevin Ware. I hope he is able to recover. He may be able to play basketball again in college or at a higher level but, if not, I hope Louisville makes sure he is well prepared for life after college. I know Pitt would.
As for Gilbert….this from Panther’s Prey:

Doke, The blog is great! What do you mean by Coach Dixon always knew Gilbert would transfer?

Dixon was quoted in the Trib after Gilbert left that he knew Gilbert always wanted to go and play with his brother eventually. He said it himself.

Coach Dixon: Making dreams come true for kids … at other schools!
1. Point Guards – Robinson and Newkirk
2. Shooting Guards – Durand Johnson, Cam Wright
3. Small Forward – Patterson, Jones
4. Power Forward – JJ and Mike Jones
5. Center – Zanna ++ need much help here
If we can get a decent center we should be OK. This team however should runand not sure if Jamie will do that.
was a ncs recruit but did not have the grades
he had high potental but he has been in jc should be ready for dev 1 now
he might not be great but was to go to ncs so he cant be all bad
Shell was facing a one-year suspension.
When you put the pieces together, it all makes sense.
there is one i like lucas stivrins he is 6 foot 10
only 210 pounds but he can move real well and played on englands national team.
and has a 3 point shot.
he would be better than nothing and from what i read he sounds like a good player.
I’m just saying you seem to be one of those people that would complain about something no matter the situation.
Pitt didn’t feed Adams inside last year anyway, so why get a true center now who can’t play the position?
You don’t need to be tall to get rebounds…Charles Barkley was 6’6″, Jerome Lane was 6’5″ I believe and Sam Clancy was 6’7″.
@denny. I wasn’t bad mouthing Dixon for bringing in Ziegler….it was other guys here saying he stunk anyway, not me. I said Dixon couldn’t coach him up or use him right.
do i know my shit or what.
dockish posted that joseph uchebo would be a good center for pitt to try and pick up.
i posted the same thing at 459 pm.
and i just now read dockish post at 941 pm.
we both said the same center .
but i all so like the kid that played on the english national team also lets get them both.
we both like the same center for pitt joseph uchebo
i just now read dockish post.
yes i am blowing my own horn but i cant help it.
I guess we’re about to see just how well JD can actually coach.
That’s about as positive as I can be right now…
Next season will be interesting anyway.
I love how ppl use Ralph Willard constantly to boost Dixon. As I posted on here before, Willard wasn’t scheduling 12 rent-a-wins to make his record appear great. If those rent-a-wins excite ppl and float your boat. So be it.
From what I see, lots of season ticket holders are no shows for the non-con. Like at least 20-25% of them.
People are starting to see thru the Illusion.
24-9 sounds impressive, but it was really 12-9 and 4-8 against the Top 50.
Also this notion of comparing us to L-Ville, Kentucky, UNC and others who lose one & dones is pretty much nonsensical. Those schools routinely recruit 3 to 4 highly rated (4 &5 star) players EVERY Year. Pitt meanwhile has almost entire recruiting classes that are wiped out by transfers/leavings/whatever and players who just aren’t very good. Whereas those elite programs just reload because they can recruit great, Pitt must scramble just to find some recruits to fill out the class. Comparing Pitt to those programs and their one & dones is ludicrous.
And while the apologists will say, losing Zeigler is no big deal, it is. He was in the system for a year and surely would have been better next year and showed to some extent when he got 20 minutes of playing time he could score as he scored 18 points and led the team in scoring one game in mid Jan and then had 13 points in a game the next week.
At the least he would have provided some depth and experience off the bench and gave you some length at 6’5? at the 2 Guard.
At the most he could have developed into the starter at 2 guard and perhaps avg’d 10-15 ppg.
And I have a feeling next year’s bball team is really going to struggle to score points. Especially in Dixon halfcourt snailball.
Heck Zeigler might have been next year’s leading scorer.
Oh and I think it’s great Kiwi Steve is going to the NBA as I don’t think JD knew how to develop him any farther anyway. It was just a shock since the kid just said the other day he loved it at Pitt and would be back for next season.
I just hope the NBA GM’s don’t screw him on Draft Day like they did with Blair & Young. Who both should have been drafted in the 1rst Round.
Half the players drafted in the 1rst Round that year, never even played in the NBA or don’t now.
Dokish obviously reads this blog and gets some of his info and ideas from our posters.
Your guess is as good as mine. 🙂
