You know, when you aren’t on the bubble and you aren’t on the top 4 seed lines, this seems like a whole lot of standing around for nothing. All the talking heads on CBS and ESPN. Along with the punditry online and in print are focused on the #1 seeds and the last 4 in (along with last 4 out and 4 more after that for good measure).
Pitt falls into neither of those places. Pitt will be seeded somewhere in the #5 to #7 range. The seeding will have to take into account the seeding of Big East teams placed ahead of Pitt.
Louisville is expected to be a #1 seed. Georgetown, a #2 or #3. Syracuse a #3 or #4. Marquette will be somewhere in the #4 or #5. Notre Dame is probably a #5 or #6. (Villanova and Cinci will likely be anywhere from #9 to #11)
Where they get seeded and what bracket they get placed will have a significant impact on Pitt’s seeding. Protected seeds — the first 4 lines — will keep conference foes from facing each other in the opening weekend.
So, for example, say the committee made a Pitt a #5 seed but Pitt got placed in the same region as #4 seed Marquette. If the committee could not make it work to switch them to another region, they could drop Pitt down to the #6 seed so that they avoid any potential 1st weekend meeting.
Needless to say, seeding after first few spots is more of a point of pride than true relevance. Match-ups become much more important. Who you face and potentially face in each round makes a bigger difference.
The selection show starts at 6pm on CBS. The babbling and endless analysis goes on through tomorrow.
No doubt us ppl who have followed Pitt for decades knows if there’s a choice the Committee will ALWAYS screw PITT.
I just wrote the other day how they put us in far away places like Boise, Idaho, El Paso and where was it the one year we played Pacific. Somewhere way out west.
The UCLA sweet 16 game was way our west as well I think.
We’ll be lucky to win one game this year, imo.
That was only because we finished first in the bigeast though years, as I noted in my post.
They couldn’t screw with Pitt those years, but in fact they did with the matchups. lol
They will get Pitt one way or the other, no doubt.
Since I knew we were going to be screwed, I’m not that pissed.
Sometimes it’s a bitch to know what’s going to happen. 🙂
I haven’t watched Wichita State at all this year. The only time I watched Gonzaga is when they blew their game against Butler (we’re kindred spirits, I guess).
Honestly, I see us going out in the first round. We’re going to lose at the free throw line.
the fact that they look to screw us every year
with placement or matchup or seeding they allwys do
we never get the matchup or partof the country
we should be in some one hates us and untill he dies or quits we will be screwed.
Would really enjoy seeing our guys play
the Zags.
us and they are both in bumfuck some were in the sticks and we are in the big east why do they have better players then us.
how do these no were schools in no were conference get better players then we do.
did you ever wonder abought that.
Now lets go and win 2 out west!!!!! HTP!!!
Pitt can wear their asses down or we can slug it out. If Dixon lets them play, we can win. If we slug it out, this board will be a study in restrained postal behavior.
I take solace in the fact that Pitt not the only power conference team screwed. Mid majors MWC and A10 got way too much respect. UNC is better than an 8. Oregon should be higher than 12. Craziness. This is actually the worst overall seeding job that I can remember. They didnt even get the top 4 right. But one thing you can always count on: Ohio St. not leaving the state of Ohio on the first weekend.
Ohio State won their conference tourney. Beat number one seed IU at Bloomington 2 weeks ago. Beat MSU. Beat everyone that matters in their conference.. Has serious Final four history that we don’t and has fans by the millions. Plus, has beaten PSU 18 straight in hoops.
Now, exactly what do we have to match that?
I’m not holding my breath.
No matter, looks like they’ll get to play IU in the Sweet 16.
