Actually, “nicely” is understating it. The schedule the ACC put out there for Pitt is outstanding.

2013 ACC Home Opponents
Florida State
Miami
North Carolina
Virginia

2013 ACC Away Opponents
Duke
Georgia Tech
Syracuse
Virginia Tech

Couple that with home non-con games that include New Mexico and Notre Dame, and Pitt has a schedule that includes two top-10 teams from this season. Not to mention Miami and even UNC. I have no idea what to expect from Virginia.

The response on twitter and the ticket office have been overwhelmingly positive. Players, fans, alumni everyone is excited.

Pitt even got a quick mention for being one of the big schedule winners from the ACC.

WINNER:Pittsburgh gets perhaps the most attractive home schedule in the league with Miami, North Carolina, Virginia and Florida State all coming to Heinz Field. Notre Dame also visits in 2013. Quite a welcome to the league for the Panthers.

Even if they are all noon games, there are no excuses not to show up this year.

Whoops. The non-con might be nooners, but not the ACC ones.

Further whoop
. Turns out 12:30 only applies to ACC Game of the Week. Not games ESPN shows. Nooners will still happen in the ACC.

This could be great.. but at the same time.. that is no cake walk.

Great Schedule! Noon games don’t bother me a bit, I love them. As long as the game is on Saturday, I’m good with it. I don’t mind, noon, 1:00 or 4:00 Saturday games. Even an evening game is ok, as long as there aren’t several of them. The week night evening games are more difficult, for those of us still in the workforce.
I think the new schedule will have very positive results in the box office. Go Panthers!

I have a bad feeling about being able to get good seating for season passes this year 🙁

Although with that schedule, hell, I have to be there.

Comment by Benzene 01.11.13 @ 2:53 pm

i immediately bought season tickets once i received the announcement. hopefully, flights start to drop a bit in the fall… hail to pitt.

Comment by Greg in New Orleans 01.11.13 @ 2:54 pm

Well, at least we’ll be shitting the bed attractively next year! Progress is progress.

Pardon me for still having a bad taste in my mouth from last season but this team better find some fire in them or else it’s going to be the same old calamity come season’s end. I’m sick and tired of having to go to bars at 9am on Saturdays to watch Pitt on ESPN-Ocho getting rolled by 21 pts in the first quarter.

An improved schedule is nice, but what would be even nicer is for this program and team to start showing the country that the Pitt name still means something. We have WAY too much history and talent to be lapped by former dilapidated programs who find themselves back in the limelight. Seeing programs like Stanford be resurrected from the ashes while we are perpetually bottom feeding is downright embarrassing. Stanford even had Walt Harris for 2 seasons. Thanks like giving us a head start!

So, ‘yay’ to the new schedule but let’s do something with it.

How will the tv scheduling work out? The Big East games of the week were broadcast regionally so fans could see the games. Will that also be the case in the ACC? Will broadcasting be more restricted in parts of the east coast and in PA? Will the Big East still have precedence over the ACC in some areas? I don’t want to see any more Big East games of the week on my tv, especially when ACC teams are playing. With Temple back in the Big East, I have a feeling this could be a problem for fans east of Pittsburgh. What would happen of the basketball schools keep the Big East brand? I’m interested to see how this works out. We need a complete report, stat! ha. My head is spinning.

Welcome to Bobby Dodd baby!!!!

Comment by Pitt Fan in Atlanta 01.11.13 @ 3:36 pm

Your problem is Steve Pederson. He created the instability in the football program. He destroyed Pitt traditions and took away the script. He has alienated fans, alumni and boosters. He is one of the reasons why many self loathing Pitt fans think they can do no better. He is the reason Pitt is being held back. He is the reason Pitt’s brand is valued so low.

Stevie is probably thinking of ways to fudge the attendance numbers already with this delicious schedule.

Greg – I’ve been driving up every year – for many years – from Virginia. I have to say I’m impressed with your pulling the trigger from New Orleans. I hope there are others like you who get on board and fill up Heinz Field.

Comment by JLawrence 01.11.13 @ 3:39 pm

On a non football note, did anyone else see that ESPN has developed its own ranking system, BPI and that Pitt is 16?

Great ACC schedule too!! HTP

I LOVE the ACC!

this is a GREAT schedule. so much better then the big least’s schedule every year.

I’m pumped for football and can’t wait to see Basketball.

Comment by Lou Gagliardi 01.11.13 @ 3:52 pm

Yeah….this year is going to be very interesting indeed. This team is going to have to grow up fast though and pull off some upsets…..especially at home to excite the ticket holders.

Comment by Jackagain 01.11.13 @ 4:03 pm

SO EXCITING! HTP!

Looking forward to watching Pitt play my second alma mater (North Avenue Trade School) on Grant Field.

Awesome!

Cool Hand Nuke is hilarious!! Shitting to bed is a lot more attractive when done in expensive satin sheets I guess?? Next year a 7-6 season with a minor bowl invite doesn’t seem so awful all of a sudden, based on the step up in competition.

I sincerely hope that the team realizes the work ahead of them if they don’t want to be down right embarrassed by the results next season. I’ll be there in any case. H2P!

Comment by Dr. Tom 01.11.13 @ 4:50 pm

You could not want any thing better exciting and
the best part is we will win 3 of thoes home games.

Comment by FRANKCAN 01.11.13 @ 4:52 pm

Chas, nice touch with the Tweets.

The added bonus… ACC away games in Southern locals.

A good reason for Pittsters to start becoming good travelers.

Comment by PittofDreams 01.11.13 @ 4:54 pm

I would rather struggle against good competition than squeeze out 6 wins against our joke schedule over the past 5 years. I actually think playing better teams will help raise our level of play and put some more enthusiasm in Heinz Field.

Comment by Coach Ditka 01.11.13 @ 5:33 pm

Just renewed my season tickets! I’m excited about this home schedule.

Comment by gdodson 01.11.13 @ 5:37 pm

So THIS is how a REAL conference greets it new members. Hallelujah! Honestly, if this schedule doesn’t get the fan base fired up, none will. I couldn’t agree more with Coach Ditka, I’m more willing to take some lumps with this schedule than to ever……EVER play at Rentschler again. This is why I have held on to my season tix the last 2 years. The away schedule is great also. I may have to go from one annual away game to two.

Now the program and the athletic department needs to step up to the plate. I want to compete for our division every year. Right on Nuke, I’m sick of programs with no tradition improving over night while we are stagnant. I want some glory and pride back in Pitt football. And if they don’t find a way to return to the script now, they never will. C’mon, just do it already!

Comment by Iron Duke 01.11.13 @ 7:33 pm

I’m hoping Pitt gets to the Cotton or Sugar one of these days. Those are just a truck drive for me. I’ll be flyin in for one of these games. Either ND or FL St. Watchin the rest hopefully on TV.

Comment by TX Panther 01.11.13 @ 8:14 pm

Pitt games usually sold out at Navy. Great place.

“Well, at least we’ll be shitting the bed attractively next year! Progress is progress.”

Okay, I concur. Better yet, though, let’s do it in style (“sh*tting the bed”): Suggestion: In Pitt Script

**If Pederson overlooks the pertinence of the defining (now throw-back) unis in this league-change, then I also change my mind and believe his replacement necessary.

(I was never too critical of Pederson, but if I see that ridiculously strange disembodied panther show up Sept 2013, I have a problem to address.)

Is it too early to dream of Pitt/Clemson for ACC Title next year?

Comment by Vulcan Rob 01.11.13 @ 10:03 pm

Good night and……… Hail to Pitt!

Comment by Justinian 01.11.13 @ 10:18 pm

Great schedule… scary, but hey we now have an opportunity to score and upset on a top team and get some attention… at least Pitt has played up to competition often.

A marketing coup would be to roll out the old colors and Script! freak’n tired of looking like half the other teams out there… would be smart on many fronts…

Comment by PittScript 01.11.13 @ 10:36 pm

awesome schedule..now all we need are some BIG W’s!!…and hopefully people will cheer instead of sitting on their hands at Heinz Feild…h2p

Comment by Keith 01.11.13 @ 10:44 pm

Coach Ditka, nailed it. Pitt usually plays up to the competition I realize we still lose in cases but we played well usually. The problem is we can also play down to the competition with the best of them. A very unique problem to Pitt athletics.

Comment by Beantown-Sean 01.12.13 @ 12:49 am

Beantown-Sean, With the new schedule there will more interest and that corelates to fans in attendance at the home games. I think there will be a lot more excitment. If they happen to lose a couple more games, it’s still better than losing to Youngstown State or Ohio U. I think the Panthers will improve in the coming years and if they don’t at least we will see better opponents. I for one am oppomistic about their chances.

Comment by Justinian 01.12.13 @ 4:32 am

Exciting to be in a real football conference! Best schedule
since the days of being an independent. Plus home and home BB games rather than a schedule designed by ESPN.

Better days are coming!

Comment by JR 01.12.13 @ 8:16 am

Can’t wait to help fill the stands. Drive 6 hours round trip for home games. Still get chills when team enters at per game. Might have to carry my aed with me if we live up to our potential. h2p

Comment by lee griffith 01.12.13 @ 8:47 am

This fantastic home schedule should be a major boost for recruiting these final 3 weeks ! We need at least 2 high school All-Americans!

Comment by ROCKY20 01.12.13 @ 10:57 am

Given that Pitt football finished with a losing season I hope their graduation rate is up. Otherwise, what a waste of $$ paying coaches, etc.
