The details of Trey Zeigler’s DUI are still unknown. The consequences, however, are. Zeigler is suspended indefinitely following the incident of Saturday night/Sunday morning. Not really surprising. This suspension was a no-brainer.
“The incident involving Trey Zeigler is not only surprising, but incredibly disappointing,” Dixon said in a statement. “Although I believe it was out of character for Trey, he has been immediately suspended until further notice. Trey has expressed his deep regret to me and understands and respects the importance of accountability for one’s actions.”
Zeigler also issued a statement that reads: “I want to apologize to my family, the University of Pittsburgh, my teammates and coaches and the entire Pittsburgh community. This is not indicative of the kind of person I am, nor the kind of person I want to be.”
This is the first incident where Zeigler has gotten in any sort of trouble like this. It was a big screw-up, and hopefully his only one.
Was hoping to see Zieglar play more minutes… and Woodall less minutes.
or fought with the cops seams a bit over the top.
If he was in a parked car and trying to be responsible by not driving it’s a different story. .12 is a lot of alcohol but generally not enough for you to pass out at the wheel while driving or at a red light … although he did get sick so who knows.
Still seems like we’re missing some facts on this – We’re not sure if he was parked at the intersection or if he was in the middle of the intersection.
every case shold be on its own merits seams harsh to me .
Really? A better team now?
They are better off w/o J. Johnson.
Zieglars Prelim Hearing is 2/5/13…
Lets hope the suspension is lifted well before that.
Zeigler is mature and will be able to pick up the speed of the BE quickly enough, but I’ll bet Robinson/Adams/Johnson are closely watching what happens when you screw up under Dixon. For this reason, I bet Dixon is pretty harsh as far as games Zeigler will be out.
The down side is that Zeigler could have used this time to work out his kinks with fitting in. So far, he has not appeared that much better than Wright or Johnson but it is very early…
“Indefinite” is just a word that allows the coach to make the punishment fit the offense as the details are sorted out. I’ve always liked Dixons approach to punishment.
High BAC penalties (.10 to .159% BAC)
No prior DUI offenses: ungraded misdemeanor
12 month license suspension
48 hours to 6 months prison
$500 to $5,000 fine
alcohol highway safety school
treatment when ordered
This is a big deal.
the 2 charges… only 1 sticks…
1a is if BAC is between .080 to .1… ability to downgrade..
2a is if BAC is between .1 to .16..
Only 1 will stick.. not both… they will list as many charges as possible to see what sticks.
Plus maybe he was on some sort of medication which reacted with the alcohol, which therefore made the reading higher. Also would be a reason for him falling asleep.
If he gets a good legalman, and a first offense, this shouldn’t be that much of a problem.
Didn’t hurt anyone, car was parked.
I say case dismissed with some community service.
Maybe rehab classes. 😉
I see what you are saying. But reports say he blew a .129%. How do you write it for less?
I was thinking that there were two separate charges.
Hope that the kid doesn’t have his life tremendously alter over this huge mistake. Dixon will stand by him as he should. Punishment is warranted and the kid must learn from his mistake. This could have been a lot worse so for that he should be thankful.
Sports takes a back seat to these incidents. Let’s hope that the kid and his family get through this quickly. PITT basketball will be fine and will be there after his current situation resolves.

It also says he vomited in his cell toilet. Like who cares about that. Has no bearing on the case at all. Perhaps he had the stomach flu (or he stopped at the Dirty O). Again vomiting does not signify guilt.
I’ve never heard of someone being charged with two DUI’s on one traffic stop. Ridiculous.
Williams, 19, was arrested because a woman, Samantha Boggess, who identified herself as his girlfriend, said he assaulted her in his apartment on South Bouquet Street in Oakland at 1:50 a.m. Saturday.
These kids need to live in the dorms not in apts, not at 19. And they should stay away from women.
Had he lived in a dorm with a roommate, a lot less likely to a happen, plus there would have been witnesses to see if perhaps this girl instigated it. Some women are good like that.
And they don’t care if it ruins your life.
And it’s another DB, we just lost the DB Ryles to transfer.
At this rate we’ll have no depth at DB. Yikes!
I posted the court doc on the other string…
I don’t know why they wrote him up for both… perhaps looking to negotiate it down..
Although it is 2 separate charges… in reality…
it will be either one or the other.. perhaps they are waiting for blood results to verify breathalyzer… then 1 of the counts will be dismissed.
On any account let’s hope that PITT and the family gets him the proper legal representation and life help. Hate to see this happening to these young guys.
I have not read the article nor seen the crim docket, but is sounds like an intoxilyzer reading (breath test), as a blood test would not be back yet from the PSP lab. In PA, they get two intoxilyer readings, and prosecute on the lower rate.
If it is as it appears to be, he will be admitted to ARD, lose his license for 30 days, will not be incarcerated nor subject to any house arrest. Its a misdeameanor case and with all due respect to the dangers of alcohol, not a big deal in the court system. He will be on ARD probation for a short period of time, and will move on, having learned a hard lesson. Lets hope as fans his hoop career is not derailed by one bad night. He seems o be a good kid who, like thousands of PA citizens every yr, got caught drinking and driving. Need to keep it in its proper perspective and move forward. Especially we Pitt fans, who have been known to have a drink or two on occasion. HTP
thanks. The 2 charges were what I questioned.
The other point was a major rant about the prior Maryland university and athletic department administrations as well as the BOT totally financially mismanaging MD. athletics, hence the new people saw only 2 alternatives, eliminate 7 0r 8 sports or grab the B10 lifeline and the hell with 60 years of tradition and the two terrific universities that just committed to the ACC. As a Pitt fan and a MD. resident I’m doubly pissed. Whatever we think of Steve P. he (and certainly with help and guidance) has done a great job of managing the Athletic department’s finances while upgrading facilities in a major way (and yes the job has changed and it may be time for him to go on with his life’s work.) If the other ACC schools have managed their athletic department finances reasonably well then this B10 excitement is due to those prior doofuses at Maryland. Now I’m even more pissed because they screwed around with my tax dollars! HTP!!!
There, but for the grace of God, have I gone many, many times in my undergrad years…

Not proud of it, just saying.
Anyway… Judge is a woman…. and not a Pitt grad… and she is the Presiding Judge or President.
Joey D. You are probably referring to DonnaJo McDaniels, the President Judge in AC. All the prelims list her as the judge in city oourt, but she will not be presiding at Trey’s prelim. It will be some rotating MDJ. relax. it will all play out. HTP
Pitt’s in the top 25!
Sorry — i know polls are sort of silly this early but dont have anything to add to the Zeigler conversation or about Howard.
Ohio Northern is located in Ada Ohio. Known as “oh no U!”
Decent school but judges are elected not selected on merit in PA state courts.
Write your state legislators if you want to see that changed.
