We lost power for a near 24-hour period thanks to high winds and rain. Somehow our block had minimal tree damage. The block east of us, however, got slammed. Some 8 or 9 trees knocked over on that block. Including one that took out a transformer (and a car and part of a house). So the 3 inches of water in the basement because the sump pump wasn’t on seems relatively minor. A good part of my day will be bleach washing the basement surface and getting rid of a bunch of kids toys (not exactly the plan I had to get rid of a lot of old toys, but I’m going with it).
In the meantime I figure on sharing this e-mail that got forwarded to me from a reader. It came to me from Yardbarker’s managing editor, who received it — and was quite confused as to why it came to him. This really is an actual e-mail from an actual person.
I was given your name by Jerry Micco, Sports Editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. I wrote to him expressing concern about the Pitt Blather column which is published in the Post-Gazette. He responded by saying that the column is a publication of FOXSports.com so I am forwarding my concern to you.
I like the content of Pitt Blather very much, but I don’t like the name “Pitt Blather”. According to the dictionary, blather means non-sensical talk. What kind of a name is this to assign to a serious blog about Pitt football? The names of the blogs for Penn State (Black Shoe Diaries) and WVU (The Mountaintop), which also appear in the Post-Gazette, are dignified and pertinent, but Pitt Blather is not only off-target but also demeaning. I am hoping that you will find a way to have the name of this column changed to something that is more appropriate.
Thank you in advance for your consideration of my request.
Sincerely,
[Name redacted]
If you ever wanted to know why corporations were wary/parnoid for so long about including hyperlinks and sidebars to outside content, meet Exhibit A.
I’m mostly amused, but for the suggestion that this is a “serious blog about Pitt football.” That kind of depresses me.
When I was trying to decide on the name of this blog the runner-up to “Pitt Sports Blather” was “The Babble Pitt.” To this day I still second-guess the decision.
He don’t know you very well, do he?
“I don’t always comment on sports blogs, but when I do, I PittBlather.”
Keep up the good work fellas!
Often when I read a post that I disagree with on “Blather” I think what BS! So my suggestion for a name change is, PittBull! LOL.
Really though, who cares, just “Mason Up” will ya.
and more heart felt.
iwish we were in the news paper then chryst and outhers might get some ideas like the pitt script and that the AD must go.
unless one of these two players wants to come to pitt.
noah vonleh 6 foot 9 power foward who they were recruiting for 2014 but he reclassefied to 2013
or beejay anya a 6 foot 8 center.
outher wise we are done.
and to make room for one of them some one would have to go.
-“that was very Wannestedtian”
-“it’s not about you,” when Dixon wouldn’t play young guys during the CBI and we were upset
-“pining for the days of Paul Rhodes”
-“read and react,” the legendary Rhodes defensive philosophy
-“we just need to run faster”
Would not second-guess the name.
PITT BLATHER is perfect!
Wow that’s a load off. 🙂
P.S. Didn’t they tear down Peabody HS. Omg where is Emel’s namesake these days.
“The blather was made by number 99, hugh Greeeeen”
“You’d have to blather here to believe it”.
This site is named appropriately. Who would participate here if it was called penn state blather?
Also via twitter, Robert Foster is ready to commit after he tells family/coaches/teammates…
Cross your fingers
Actually, Gene Collier wrote one of his better works of prose around Mike Shanahan and history. Blather you scoff! Perhaps.
I would be excited if Ohio State offered me as well. So let’s embrace our good fortune. For those who follow the stars (system), this usually means that one of our recruits became better overnight and rose in the rankings.
I am interested in Foster and while I have my suspicions, I really have no clue where he will go. But I di know this.
If two people know something, it isn’t a secret. If “family, friends and coaches” know, the world will know long before the young man announces.
And for those out there whining about competing against Ohio State for recruits I have a question. Would you prefer to compete against Ohio U?
Embrace the legitimacy that an evil glance from Urban gives you. In recruiting, perception is reality.
Unfortunately the sports world, college football and the whole world is all based on perception.
Even though these programs like Ped State & Ohio Fake have been proven to be cheats and the lowest form of humanity, they still are perceived to be better than PITT.
Which further proves my point…about….
The Power of Perception.
Truly a sad state of Affairs !
Let’s see….. a Decade long penalty on the number of recruits and bowl appearances. And a total ban on games televised !
And in Ped State’s case, what indeed has to happen there, for them to get a total death penalty. Little boys sacrificed and slain ? Because this wasn’t like it was some one time occurrence, this was something that went on for over a 12 year period and more likely a 25 year period or longer ! That whole thing sickens me and it should you !
And then it was covered up for over a decade by the supposed leaders of a higher institution of higher learning. Give me a frickin break.
The fact that they are allowed on TV, says how little the media gives a damn on what these cheatin, evil, scumbag universities do !
Veritas et Virtus
Hail to Pitt!
of “blather?” The content is key.
Great article in the Trib on Chris Burns.
Glad to hear you made it through the storm with relatively minimal damage. I live in Aliquippa and while we got a good bit of rain and some unbelievably strong winds, we never lost power and damage to trees in our neighborhoods seemed to be relatively non-existent. I can’t help but think we dodged a bullet.
