1-AA Losses In the Last Five Years

When you have plenty of time, but no wi-fi, there is only so much you can do. I did, however, have the handy-dandy Phil Steele College Football Preview Guide to keep me entertained. Pitt was #15 on his list of most improved teams for this year! Guessing that won’t be mentioned next year when he talks of his accuracy.

It did allow me to look over the schedules of teams over the past five years and how many BCS programs have lost to 1-AA teams in that span. Time to look at the factoids gleaned.

Much Went Awry

Filed under: Football — Chas @ 2:17 pm

I don’t know about anyone else but my Labor Day weekend has absolutely sucked. What I envisioned versus reality went so far afield that I scarcely know where to start.

Heading into the weekend it was all laid out just right. Everything was in place. Head to Pittsburgh at a reasonable hour in the morning, see my friends, tailgate and drink most of the day. Head in a little early to the stadium to welcome the Paul Chryst era.

Figured on a sloppy win, as the team gets its feet wet with yet another new coaching staff. That YSU might battle, Pitt might look shaky at times, but the outcome never truly in doubt. Back out to the lot, have a drink while traffic let out and optimistically speculate on the good that was seen. Get back to where we all crash — our friend’s place on the South Side. Go out and have a couple drinks, and watch some west coast college football.

Sunday would be a planned early exit. Taking a friend to the airport for an early flight which would let me go down to Central Ohio to pick up my daughter who was spending the weekend with her grandmother. Get back home before noon and have enough time to do some homebrewing and make dinner.

So much for most of that.

Open Thread: YSU-Pitt

Time to hit the road, but I’ll put this out before leaving.

The convergence of the start of school for the kids and the start of football season has been brutal. Just trying to get everything cleared away so I can get to Pittsburgh and enjoy the game and a night out. That’s my excuse for the dearth of posting leading up to the start of a new season and a (hopefully) new era under Paul Chryst.

We’ll see if Ray Graham gets any playing time. How the offensive line looks in pass protection. What Tino Sunseri can do (and how long it takes for someone to start booing him). Are the receivers going to be better when they run actual routes? And try to get a feel for what kind of head coach Paul Chryst will be on gameday.

Gametime is at 6pm. It is on ESPN3 (online) only.
