Finally. Finally. Finally.
As expected, the press release wants to emphasize the Big East portion of the schedule. Especially to sell season tickets. The Pre-Season NIT Kickoff thing, is going to be where Pitt will sink or swim with RPI.
As we all knew, the home non-con slate is horrid. The best Pitt could land to replace what it had assumed was a SEC team was Detroit on December 1. The season opener is November 9 with Mount St. Mary’s. Then Pitt jumps right into the Pre-Season NIT with Lehigh, Robert Morris and/or Fordham in the next two games.
The Big East schedule is going to be heavily nationally televised. Fourteen of the first fifteen Big East games are going to be televised on ESPN channels (real ones, not ESPN3) and CBS. Only a home game with DePaul gets excluded from TV for the first 15 Big East games. The remaining 3 Big East games will be on ESPN3 or the syndicated Big East Network.
But that non-con. Ugh. Howard, North Florida, Kennesaw St., Delaware St., Bethune-Cookman, Oakland are on the home slate. It’s not pretty for November and December.
Pitt has only two Big Monday appearances this year. At Lousiville on January 28 and Notre Dame on February 18. These are the final Big Mondays. Let’s make them count.
Well, here’s the full schedule.

only detroit and duquesne have any intrest to me.
boy do these games suck.
I suspect that WVU didn’t happen for at least 2 reasons. First, one of the schools would have to agree to travel to the other, and neither probably wanted to do so this year. Also, Oliver Luck threw a lot of insults towards Pitt last fall, specifically calling Nordenburg and Pederson liars if I recall correctly, and I’m guessing memories in Oakland aren’t that short. Eventually, they’ll get beyond that, but not just yet.
On a serious note watch out for Lehigh…a well coached team with talent.
If this is attributable to Smiling Steve I believe that it would be up to the alumni to become much more VOCAL with Nordy & Co. to have him replaced ASAP. Will it happen of course not!
Stevie must have pictures of somebody very high up in the administration with a goat.
laugh if it wasent so sad.
who will go see this mess i would not pay a dime or go free to these games.
If they want cup cakes dont be so obvious play
big schools that dont do well in basketball
i could livewith that like SMU Penn state
north western iowa state or nebraska or Tulane.
Love Dixon, if this is his call (as posters have led me to believe over the years), that is one downfall of his.
If it is, it should be rectified by the Athletic Director. If it’s the Athletic Director, then shame on him.
The fans have shown their support, and deserve better than this.
Also, don’t understand why you wouldn’t bring bigger teams in. Coach Dixon, you beat them just about every time. Duke, Ohio State twice, Washington twice, many others from BCS conferences. And many times on neutral courts.
So what’s to be afraid of, you’ll probably win, that will help the RPI even more.
Please don’t tell me teams are afraid of The Pete. Yes, I love The Pete, all kinds of accolades on ESPN every year as one of the toughest places to play. But, teams go to Duke and Kansas and Michigan State. C’mon.
There’s no one to schedule, from other BCS conferences in the top 40??? C’mon, it’s a tight circle of friends in the coaching ranks. Surely he is close friends with some of these guys, or acquainted with most. You can’t get a game and give one back???
I find that really hard to believe.
Give me at least a name I’ve heard of!!!
One excuse was always, “oh, the BE is so tough, so tough when you get into conference play” etc. etc.
Now, it’ll be, “whoa, we got UNC, DUKE and Maryland coming in”, “we couldn’t possibly play Michigan State or Oklahoma at home non-con.”
Again, I love Dixon. But, quite frankly, this is really embarrassing.
Jamie, you’re better than this, and over the last 12 years, so have your teams been.
I don’t get it.
catch on that no one wants to see this shit.
what would you think of these games i would go to
these.
penn
robert morris
lasalle
duquesne
saint joseph pa
penn state
st francis pa
now thoes games would be fun you could say you wanted to see who was the champ of pa
at least most people would know who they were
they would be mostley cup cakes but you would want to see thoes games.
Now it seems public opinion has finally swung around to reflect what many of us have been wondering for years. Why won’t Jamie play anybody in Nov/Dec?
Funny how attitudes change after one crap year of results. More questions get asked, more topics debated………
I know every year though, there are some big power teams have a good non con match up, they are always on tv. Not a lot maybe, but it does happen.
It may be circumstances beyond control the past few years, but, no way getting around it, absolutely horrible.
Also, I know $$$$ is everything, but for the future of any challenges, all games should be at The Pete.
Moving to the Consol helps no one, except the pocketbook.
Can’t we say once a year, no, we don’t want the extra couple dollars, we want home court advantage??
I have hear a few grumblings last year a bit too.
I think along with your point, having 4 or 5 years in a row of nothing but Alcorn St. starts to get the natives restless also.
Back a few years ago, we had some home and homes with Ohio State, Wisconsin and Washington, that was enough to say we had a half decent team coming in.
Well’s been dry lately.
