The Big East decided to screw Pitt in the SEC/Big East Match-up this year. The ACC, however, is being a lot cooler about things for their own marquee non-con conference cross-over.
Syracuse and Pitt are expected to be a part of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge in 2013 when they are members of the ACC. There was initial talk of not including them because they were new — but that was never going to fly. The ACC hasn’t officially decided how it will decide the 12 teams that will go against the 12 from the Big Ten. But one proposal that will be discussed is to pair the top 12 RPI teams from the previous season in the ACC with the 12 Big Ten teams. If that’s the case, the bottom teams will get frozen out.
Doesn’t that simply make more sense when one side has more teams than the other? To take your best teams? These are match-ups for conference pride and bragging rights. If you can avoid sending the DePauls, Providences and Wake Forests you do it.
As far as the challenge is concerned I do agree with Chas that each conference needs to send their best. Perception is huge in the media. Whoever wins will be seen in a greater light by espn and hence perceived to be stronger come selection time. As Don Henley once wrote…”kick em when they’re up, kick em when they’re down, kick em when they’re up, kick em all around!
Yes, please.
Home game vs Duke, yes please.
Home game vs UNC, yes please.
Home game vs Maryland, yes please.
You get the point.
One more go around in the BE, lets enjoy it.
How about we don’t acknowledge them at all?
That sounds better to me.
And can we take those creeps from Creepy Valley OFF the football schedule. Sellout, schmellout.
Let’s stand for something the complete opposite of the pedo’s from Creepy Valley.
Veritas et Virtus !
Isn’t their coach Bo Ryan I believe, from the Burg as well.
If they go with RPI’s from the previous season, it doesn’t guarantee a good matchup, due to a little thing called graduation or the NBA draft.
Perfect example would be PITT from 2010 (high RPI) to PITT 2011, (stunk).
If I realize it, surely the muckety mucks of each conf will too.
To all of us who labor. Oy vey
What is truly funny is the first year after PSU dropped Pitt, they had their best team in decades but still couldn’t make the NCAA tourney due to a crappy SOS. A game with Pitt might have put them in the dance.
Well, they do suck and they are not superior.
Don’t play them in anything.
I prefer to play OSU or MSU.
I agree with those of you above who want to knock the snot out of those so and sos (ohio) in basketball. Moreover I’d like to have them as an occasional out of conference opponent in football and do the same to them there as our team gets better.
About 18 and a half hours till the Paul Chryst era starts. HTP!
Game day..like playing @ 6.
