Frustrating to see that the VT game is a noon start. If that game is a nooner, I’m not holding out much hope that the other 4 open times — which includes half of Pitt’s home games — will be anything but nooners.
But at least Gardner-Webb gets to be a 3:30 start. Least they can do with 1-AA games, extra tailgating time.
But i think we go 7 and 5 unless tino is tino then
it is 6 and 6.
or the beef o brady bowl. or the one in new york
what is it called the pine strip bowl or something like that.
cant wait till we move to the ACC has was said to
pharaoh let my people go.
Any chance she might be on maternity leave in the fall?
With that said, tino wont be nearly as bad as you guys are saying. Hell be in his sophomore form but with much better coaching. With pitts running backs, a huxtable defense with a great deal of young talent on that side of the ball, and a creampuff schedule, pitt wins 8/9 games. Honestly-your logic of tino so .500 is beyong me. 6-6 last year with that staff, all the system changes, and a good schedule but only 6-6 this year with chryst at the helm, familiar system that hides players imperfections, and a creampuff schedule yet they dont win more games? My mind=blown
I understand that he has an appeal into the NCAA based on his not playing by taking a redshirt last season but he was enrolled and on the football roster at Arizona so that waiver may not be granted.
wbb – I agree. Sunseri is a lightning rod when it comes to criticism of our 2011 season. It is ridiculous to look at our season as a whole and point only to the QB.
Upittbaseball – not only will Sunseri see reps he’ll start. The only thing that might change that, IMO, is if Savage gets his waiver to play in 2012 at PITT. Even then he’ll have to beat out Sunseri and that isn’t a slam dunk at all. Savage’s best year, 2009, at RU wasn’t any better than Sunseri’s 2010 year at PITT. As a matter of fact Sunseri had a 10 point better QB rating.
Once Tino is gone, I have all the faith in the world that PC can turn this team around and good things will happen. Until then prepare for another worthless uninspiring bowl appearance at maybe 7-5.
Only hope is defense is good enough (like Pirate pitching this year) to steal a game or two and overcome the offensive limitations. Don’t know anything about Huxtable, is he a good enough coach to pull this off?
Another article on Graham. Is it just me or is the media starting to be taken in by him again?
It’s missing the January 5th, 2013 BBVA Compass Bowl….
CoachDitka, you are over exagerrating. Tino is not the second coming of Marino by any means, and while he is awful with the long ball, he’s shown over the last couple of years that he’s capable of being effective in the <30 yard range, at least when the O-line is actually blocking and he's not trying to run FraudGraham's idiotic Keystone Cops offense.
Unfortunately, the previous two coaches insisted on running offenses that depend on hitting the home run ball all the time, knowing darn well that skill wasn't in Tino's bag. If you can consistently complete 10-15 yard passes on first or second down, you can burn a team that stacks the box all day long, so I don't see that as an issue. There have been a slew of good teams over the years that generated tons of offense based entirely on running and short passing. That sort of scheme plays right into the skills of the players that we can put on the field right now, including Tino.
So, if Chryst actually runs an offense this year based on the strengths of the QB and doesn't depend on him to constantly do the things he's clearly not good at (i.e., deep ball, running the option) like Wanny and Fraud, then Tino will probably surprise a lot of people. Hopefully, that will be the case.
Like someone said previously, Chryst is actually the first good offensive mind we've had here since Walt Harris. Wanny and Fraud couldn't coach offense to save their lives, and I was never impressed with any of their coordinators. I'd like to see us have more complete QBs in the future, but for now, people need to lay-off Tino a bit and hope that the new coach decides to actually put him in a position where he is likely to succeed, instead of the one the last two put him in. Think back to Bill Stull – the guy couldn't hit a fade if his life depended on it, but Cavanaugh kept calling it in the red zone over and over again. So, you can't really blame Bill for those losses. The situation with Tino isn't that much different. Remember, these are college kids, not professional draft choices, and you have to be able to make the best out of the players you get.
I truly truly hope I am wrong and Tino shows me otherwise but after 3 years I have little faith in him to get the job done.
While Tino has his physical limitations, they are not as severe as some here believe.
Rather, his biggest problem is mental. He can’t be counted on to lead the team late when the game is on the line. The closest thing to a victory he can claim in that department is South Florida 2010.
That’s my problem with him.
That said, to think that him starting guarantees a 6-6 or 7-5 season is dumb. Give last year’s team this schedule and they go 8-4. And again, that was with the system change and all the injuries.
If this year’s team goes 7-5 or worse, we have bigger problems than Tino Sunseri.
Ditka – Sunseri has had a 64% completion rate in both the last two years. That is very good and, contrary to some PITT fan’s beliefs they all weren’t three yard passes. He was 41st in passing last year and his yards per completion was 10.59 which also isn’t too shabby either.
As I have often mentioned before … just remember that Iowa, Wisconsin and the B12 teams often have 11 am starts (noon eastern).
