You know what’s really depressing? This may be the least depressing topic related to Pitt on which I write today.
The Big East was finally able to put out their schedule for 2012. That means we have dates for all of Pitt’s home and away games. Not to mention times and broadcast info for a chunk of them.
The good news: despite 3 weeknight games, none are at Heinz Field. Other good news. Aside from the Buffalo game, all of Pitt’s road games will be broadcast on either NBC, ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
The bad news, aside from the home game with VT, the rest of the home games will at best be on the Big East syndicated broadcast. At worst, ESPN3.com. Other bad news, every home game looks like it will be (or should be) a nooner.
I guess the plus side for Pitt ticket sales, is that the lack of guaranteed TV coverage might be an extra incentive for people to buy ticket. Yeah, I’m grasping.

We already knew the home schedule was a dog. The Big East saw to that. So I’m not particularly pissed any longer. More resigned to it.
The semi-plus side on this one is that almost the entire home season is going to be in September and October. Hopefully that means pleasant enough weather to go to the games.
Not even him could muck this up. (or could he ?)
The “loyal” fan base is the one taking a hit. And when I say loyal fan base, I am talking about people who actually show up to games on the regular.
Now based on many people’s comments and from my own observations at football games (and not based on any actual fact in particular), I am willing to bet that about half the loyal Pitt fan base comes from outside the Pittsburgh area. I would say most people who buy tickets are within 3 hours of Heinz field. So for those around 3 hours away, they’d have to get up at around 5 or 6 am to be able to get in the parking lots by around 9 am, to get in an ample tailgate before the game. That’s very tough to do for people within even an hour of Pittsburgh let alone 3 hours.
My point is, these demands paired with a shitty on field football team, doesn’t add up to attendance as we all know. So why not focus on making fans happy. Allow people ample time to get pleasantly drunk before being disappointed by the team. Who really wants to get up at 5 am, try and get drunk, then be disappointed by a bad team, and then afterwards ask themselves why they even bothered going?
That opening YSU game at 6PM is perfect. I remember it last year against Buffalo. Tailgating is fun. People like drinking. Allow for it to happen Pitt. Even a 3:30 PM start isn’t bad. Give up a little in whatever little benefits you get in network coverage over a half empty yellow seated game, and get a fan base who is happier about start times and become more loyal and who will actually show up.
Anyone want to help me off the ledge or should I jump?
fucked.
You have every right to not renew your tickets or invite a larger group. But the yellow seats won’t help you to achieve your goals.
The others? Guess it depends on how well Pitt and the opponent is doing.
As for renewing, guess it’s up to you. I considered not renewing, largely because I live 4+ hours away and can’t attend all of the games without making major trades, but I’m still going to go.
The blame for this schedule falls on the shoulder of the Big East. Frankly, I think the 2007 was far worse.
It doesn’t matter anyways if Pitt doesn’t win.
I sure hope Chryst is better at coaching this team up than out last 6 coaches…
We can’t be mad at Pitt, Nordy, or even Smug Smile Steve, this was coming, with the move to the ACC. Unavoidable.
Now, for the noon kickoffs, I guess you can get mad, not the schedule though.
How about a great year, get the recruiting into high gear, have a decent season getting ready for the ACC and the coaches get acclamated.
Almost ideal, actually.
And, I will present an imaginary schedule, for the following year, that will not be too far off other than the home and away. We allready have 5 games scheduled, 2 of them, happen to allready be ACC teams, so, hear is a possible taste of what we may get………….
Villanova
@ North Carolina
@ Virginia Tech
North Carolina State
Clemson
@ Duke
Georgia Tech
Miami
@ Virginia
@ Navy
Notre Dame
Syracuse
How bout’ dem apples. And it won’t be far from the truth one way or another.
So, come back off the ledge, enjoy the games, and hopefully we have a decent team, that can learn and get better each week, and be full throtlle going into the ACC!!!!
OK, back onto the ledge, I just saw the post on Steven Adams!!!
FYI, as it stands now, Villanova, ND & Navy scheduled for home.
The two ACC games scheduled years ago are
@ Va Tech @ NC State.
I’m sure there will be some schedule adjusting, and you could substitue Wake or Fla. St. in for Clemson or a couple others, but, in general, that’s a pretty good idea, and I am thrilled and pumped up for it.
I was pumped up about Fraud Graham at the beginning of last year too!! LOL!!!!!!!
For those of that missed this one.
Since the money was the same at ASU & PITT
Perhaps Graham, got an offer he couldn’t refuse.
He sure bugged out of town fast. The Christmas tree lights were still plugged in inside the house. lol
Another oldie, but goodie.
Check the name in the next to the last paragraph.
All the bullshit details aside, if it is fun you do it and if it isn’t you don’t.
I’ll be back in 2013 but now sadly is the time for my 10 year streak as a season ticket holder to come to end.
I will get tickets for the VA Tech game this year but that’s the only game.
Plus, you never know. Recent memory reminds me that we’ve owned VT in past meetings (for no apparent reason, I might add)and who knows, we end up going 3-0 with an underdog win at home against VT and all of a sudden this team’s confidence and momentum is sky high going into the meat of the schedule. Could be fun!
BTW, since I now live in Virginia, I would love to have the bragging rights for a year over all those Hokie fans. They’re not nearly as bad as Hoopies fans but kind of reside in the same neighborhood, if you know what I mean.
Real Pitt fans can take whatever gets thrown their way, so just buy your tickets and hope for the return of Pitt’s glory days once again. HTP!
The sooner this disaster of a football conference ends with Pitt no longer being a part of it, the better. Is there anyway where could have NONE of the games televised ? haha
