It is about the only interesting twist on the CBI. When it comes time for the championship match-up it is not a one-game set where you can never be be sure who gets hot once. A best of three makes it a little more interesting. At least, that is what I’m telling myself.
10 pm Eastern for a game on the West Coast. The Washington State Cougars are possibly to probably down a key player tonight. Given the overall remoteness of Pullman Washington, the Cougars don’t get many visitors from the East Coast — especially the Big East.
After all, Pitt is about to become just the second current member of the Big East to play a game in Pullman, and the first since that conference was formed in 1979.
DePaul is the only current Big East team that has played a game here, losing 83-69 to WSU on Dec. 11, 1974.
“Pullman’s not a fun place to play,” for a visiting team, senior forward Abe Lodwick said. “It’s not an easy place to get to, either, so I understand why a lot of programs don’t come. It’ll be fun having a team with a big name on their chest coming in. We definitely want to represent ourselves and our school as best we can against them.”
“Playing Pitt here, it’s a big-name school coming in and giving us some publicity over on the East Coast for recruits and stuff,” said freshman guard DaVonte Lacy. “I think it’s a real good opportunity for us and hopefully we take advantage of it.”
The latter may be difficult without [forward Brock] Motum, who leads the team in scoring at 18 points per game. Coach Ken Bone said the junior forward has a “very slim chance” to play after spraining his right ankle early in WSU’s 72-55 semifinal win over Oregon State last week.
It’s on HDNet. Just going with the open thread and some life on Twitter for this.

I also get to say Fuck em again…:-)
Also this 3 game series should be a good barometer of how well Dixon can adjust and coach on a game by game basis, against the the same team and the same coach.
And finally will someone put in a WAKE-UP CALL for Sleepy. He’s dozed off again in this tournament.
Oy vey !
The bigs were very disappointing, especially when Keno Davis kept saying that Wazzu had little depth at the big position. In typical Pitt fashion, we let their power forward nail 3s all night (4 of 5). At one point, the BACKUP power forward was behind the arc and Woodall got switched onto him. Tray didn’t even try to close and the guy hit a 3.
No idea why Gibbs was even in the game in the second half. Defensive liability, no confidence on offense. Rather see John Johnson.
Again, no Gilbert. Dixon pisses me off. With Gilbert in the game, could be more aggressive on the perimeter because, whether Dixon admits it or not, when he’s in the game, Gilbert is a presence in the paint and alters shots.
And one thing I get tired of is guys penetrating and then stopping in the paint. Patterson did it like 3 times. Get to the hoop! If they block the shot, so be it. Chances are good, though, that they draw a foul.
What?!?! wow.
Woodall generally played a good game with a couple of questionable defensive efforts. I have no idea what he was thinking on the drive in the closing seconds. He was trying to split two guys at least six inches taller than him and attempted an over the shoulder layup that was sent back. Meanwhile he has Moore open on his right with a smaller guy trailing him by at least a full stride. Moore could have taken the pass and at least laid it in if not slammed it.
Between Moore, Patterson and Woodall, next year is looking decent. Throw in two true centers (Adams and Gilbert) and an emerging Zanna (CBI stats) and Pitt will have some serious size next year.
This is a meaningless tournament and still the young guys sit while seniors who do very little continue to play. What is the reasoning? The best chance to win? Really?
Second Pitt has no prescence inside and hasn’t all year. You cannot function with 6’9″ forwards at center and a 6’5″SF.
The good news is that Pitt has by sheer luck recruited the best center in the country. Adams will be a force on offense and defense next year. Double/doubles should be routine. Also whether Taylor or Zanna plays SF unless they are deaf dumb and blind should get tons of garbage as teams attempt to stop Adams. Remember Biggs, who was no star, benefiting from Blair this should be better.
Guard problem – Robinson is everything Woodall isn’t. A fundamental player with basketball sense. A consistent outside shooter with the ability to penetrate and finish (6’3″) and a tenacious defender.
Add Moore and Patterson and if Jamie plays his two best recruits in years early and often before conference games I expect a immediate turn around.
There is a longtime saying that the backup QB is always one of the most popular players on every NFL roster.
I think Gilbert will evetually be a presence in the middle, especially on defense, but there is no reason that Dixon would keep him on the bench if he was ready to play right now.
Remeber the overwhelming complaint coming from this site back in 09 for Bill Stull to benched in favor of Tino … how did that work out?
