Yeah, what the hell. Maybe you are there. Maybe you are following on the radio. Let’s try and relax. Enjoy things and treat it like an exhibition. Remember, Wofford gave Walt Harris his worst win at Pitt. (It was Wofford, right?)
JJ has shown GTG potential.
Satisfying to win. Pitt rolls on.
Good to get a win. As anyone who plays sports knows, you love the game even if there’s no significant championship at stake. So good for these kids. Glad to see JJ Moore keeping it up. Equally happy to see Gibbs and robinson get meaningful time. Despite this bad year, they deserve it for all their time here.
Gilbert should have played 40 minutes or until he fouled out. Same with Taylor and Zanna. I would have run next years horses into shape (or into the ground) to prep them for next year. Same with the guards. Would have started Woodall and Patterson until they passed out or fouled out.
Steve P must go. He just doesn’t get it and having him stay one day more, diminishes Nordenbergs legacy. Wake up Mark and leave the universities sports teams in a better place than when you got here by bringing in a competent AD.
These kids have played over 30 games, hundreds of practices. It’s about the program also.
There is no need for
Gibbs-Robinson farewell mulligan tour.
I was somewhat happy with the way the minutes were divided up and glad to see the guys played well.
Gibbs getting 30 was too much, but what the hell, we don’t have another shooting guard to even suck up any meaningful time to see what they could do.
I haven’t been one to pound this site about Gilbert, but, wow, he must really be a train wreck to illicit 1 minute of playing time 30 some games into the season.
He “isn’t ready”. Ya, ok, well then, wouldn’t this be the perfect oppurtunity to get some real game action??
I’m a huge Jamie fan, so, I go with he knows best, but, makes you wonder, if he’s only worthy of 1 minute of time after 30 some games, and tons of practices, what was he recruited for in the first place??
Maybe he is injured?? Or, is he really that bad??
Which then again, brings up the question……
Oh, nevermind.
Zanna had a great game, played with confidence on both ends. I feel like he does this whenever he plays with confidence, and when he struggles he’s playing tentative basketball.
Moore had a great game and should be the star of next year’s team. He ended the first half with consecutive 3-pointers, one from 25 feet and one from maybe 35 at the buzzer. Then in the second half, he made consecutive three-pointers prompting a Wofford time-out. When the teams took the floor again he wasn’t in the game. Interesting choice.
Wofford made a run to trim the lead to 7 in the second half. Pitt weathered this run well. The team could have played disinterested basketball and checked out for the season, but they obviously worked hard in practice and it showed tonight.
The refs decided to start calling a close game when it was already out of hand with four minutes left. Of 19 total fouls, I think seven were in the last four minutes.
I hope to see more fans for Monday’s game against Princeton. Princeton is a fun team to watch and you might never again get an opportunity to sit so close for $20. We are in the CBI and the goal is to win the CBI by beating Butler. HTP
gate receipt (1449 x $20) = $28,980
TV revenue = $0
Bottom line = ($6020) … and probably more since I doubt that revenue from concessions offset the expenses (electricity, salaries for game workers, etc)
Ditto
The trouble is that Pitt is always measured against the Steelers, and occasionally PSU and OSU which draw 100k no matter who they play. Fact is that sharing a city with an iconic, revered pro franchise is a large detriment.
I live in an eastern suburb of Cleveland and it dawned on me last weekend that the people I see wearing OSU apparel outnumber those wearing Browns apparel by at least 5 to 1. In Pgh, the ratio is at least 10 to 1 for the Steelers, and of course, even the Pens and Pirates outnumber Pitt. It will always be an uphill battle
and do you really think a few games at the end of this year are gonna make any difference for next year? they won’t.
So, what is the point of these games, then??
The kids can play pick up games any time they want at the Pete I’m sure.
As a matter of fact, I doubt there’s been a day in their lives when they haven’t had a basketball in their hands!!!
I’m sure that was great for the kids, walking into a 13,000 seat events center, and having 1200 people there.
Great for their memories.
And, I suppose a few on here will tell me, I’m not a die hard fan, or even a good fan, because I didn’t go down to the game. LOL!!!
All the haters should ask themselves this: given one of these two options, which is better for our basketball team? Practicing and playing games? Or sitting at home on their hands?
I’ve heard nothing but positive things about Pitt basketball for the last 10 years. Locally, nationally, and from the fans. Sold out Pete, Pitt parties at bars during the all the tournament appearances and on and on.
We had a crap year, and are in some made up tournament. This is the first time I’ve ever heard anyone make any “fun” of Pitt.
And I don’t have a problem with the guys on radio having a few laughs over the CBi or whatever it is.
It’s a fact, we’re a premier team, who had a bad year, who decided to play in a crap tournament.
Just the truth, guess my Pitt loyalties should be questioned because I dare raise a word!!
LMAO
Ya, I hate Pitt. Pretty obvious from all of my
%99 poistive posts, even positive posts about Fraud Graham, (unitl his final stunt), over the last 2 years.
Ya, mark me down, I hate Pitt!!!!!!!!!!!!
You simply cannot compare Pitt FB which plays in the worst BCS FB conference vs Pitt BB which is in the best NCAA BB conference … not to mention the fact that Northeast provides the largest amount of D1 BB recruits but just thje opposite for FB recruits …. (and I didn’t even bring the Steelers into this argument)
I don’t know, seems like he might have some rage issues!!
WBB, I understand, and I do understand the Steeler thing to the other poster. Really, over the past 10 years, I don’t think the hoops or even football have been made “fun” of. At least by our media or our fans.
I get the crowds, I get the uphill battle with attendance at football. I think we’ve been treated pretty well in football and basketball by the media and our own fans.
Ya, some other teams fan will take shots at the crowds at football.
I have heard questions on the radio programs about Pitt football crowds, but most of the time, I’ve never heard the guys making fun, more of a serious tone of, “what can Pitt do to get better crowds”, or “can they get better crowds”.
I guess I take a little light making fun and jabbing at the CBI as a complement actually.
Could any of us imagine 15 years ago, that Pitt would be getting some grief for “lowering” themselves to a consolation tournament??
I mean, really, imagine that, some people actually saying, “Pitt’s better than that to have accpeted that CBI tourney?”
I find that pretty impressive and quite a statement of where the Pitt basketball program is.
I have to say, some of the allure is Princeton.
Have always loved to watch Princeton and Penn basketball.
Hopefully I’ve saved some grace!!!
“The game will…give Princeton the opportunity for wins over three teams currently in major conferences on their home courts for the first time since the 1966-67 season. Princeton has already defeated Florida State and Rutgers in their home gyms this season.
The Scarlet Knights are one of four common opponents for Pitt and Princeton this season, along with Wagner, Rider and Penn. Both teams beat Rider and lost to Wagner, while Princeton split with Penn and Pitt routed the Quakers 78-58 at The Palestra in November. Princeton won at Rutgers in December, while the Scarlet Knights rolled over Pitt 62-39 in Pittsburgh in January.”
[Yikes, I almost had put that 62-39 debacle out of my mind]
Anyways, this could be an entertaining game, and certainly not a gimme for this year’s Pitt team.
I don’t think I could bring myself to drive up from the DC suburbs to catch a game though, at least not during the week.
