Last minute decommits happen. But rarely is the moment captured.
Jawand Blue is a 3-star recruit out of Boca Raton, Florida. He had a lot of offers, though, from everyone from Pitt, to Michigan St., Wisconsin, WVU. He chose Virginia Tech.
At the last minute, he got an offer he really wanted: Miami.
Well on signing day, he decided to go with Miami. He gave VT Coach Frank Beamer a phone call to break the news to him.
The moment was captured via Twitter by a local reporter.
This is something.
Wow. Quite the reaction to a 3-star player decommiting. You have to think Beamer might have been more tacit. And you would be right. Turns out that it wasn’t Beamer. It was an assistant, Charley Wiles.
The high school coaches at West Boca HS told Matt Porter that it was Beamer on the phone. VT, by the way, is not denying the statements. They just want the right person blamed attributed.
Once they sign with the school, the school owns them.
Think about the kids of Pitt duped by Graham. Graham got to leave easy, as does any other coach who leaves voluntarily.
The players don’t get that luxury.
