Okay, it’s a likely damp, cool October night. Both teams below .500. Everyone is distracted by conference realignment. Or is it perhaps that we’d rather watch that spectacle than look too closely at the struggles of our own team?
UConn has a mess of an O-line. They have trouble protecting the QB. It all seems very familiar.
We will see how much UConn can or will blitz Pitt’s O-line. Haven’t heard anything in the hours leading to game time regarding Lucas Nix’s status. I’m assuming he will miss his third straight game. Hopefully here will be some better protection, and maybe even some average QB play. That or just give the ball to Ray Graham — a lot.
Hopefully Todd Thomas can return to the linebacker rotation.
In absurdity news, the Student Affairs Council (or something not affiliated with the athletic department) is distributing towels to wave during the game. Not blue. Not yellow. Lime Green. Yes, lime green. Apparently this is about depression awareness, and they are characterizing the green as a combination of Pitt colors. Yes, jokes about depression and Pitt football kind of write themselves. And I get a bit depressed just writing about this.
I guess on the bright side, the really absurd, insane losses to UConn all happened on the road. Last year. That ridiculous decision to run out the clock in the third quarter a few years back, and blow the big lead to lose in OT. Still scarring, but again, road games.
Okay, just a reminder, this is a moderated liveblog. Not an open message board. After a certain point, I don’t waste time approving repetitive comments. Especially the same complaint over and over again. Here’s a hint. If you do nothing but post “Tino sucks” or some variation over and over again, I’m probably not going to waste time approving it. That’s why your comment isn’t showing up. I think we got it the first several dozen times it has been said by others.
As usual, you can break the liveblog out of the site by Clicking Here.
Otherwise, just a little lower.
You can tell by Ray’s reaction that it is bad.
To bad about Ray Graham, he’s an amazing talent and he looked sensational on the play before his injury.
As for the Tino injury…not as worried. Maybe he’ll have a bit more pep in his step and get the ball out sooner now that he’s “injured”
Not good.
LMAO
I’m thinking about coming out of retirement, I think I have .5 year of eligibility left.
Pitt needed this win. Except for the sack just before the half, Tino played very well and his stats reflected his performance. I give credit to the coaches who simplified his play calling, something they should have done several games ago. We spew trash at Tino but he is a good athlete who is trying to play in a system he never played in before including Pop Warner football. Maybe he doesn’t have a strong arm for the long pass that we like to see thrown but his arm is strong enough for the quick pass which can be very hard to defend – we’ll see this strategy deployed this week with the Patriots’ offensive play calling.
This football team is improving and that is a good thing for the rest of the season. I’m all about now and hope Pitt can have a winning season and become bowl eligible, something of a reward for the seniors. I don’t care what bowl Pitt goes to, I just want them to get an invitation and have fun.
We older Pitt alumni are spoiled by the Pitt teams of the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. We still live in the past. The Dorset’s, Green’s, Marino’s, May’s… are long gone. Let’s accept the fact that Pitt is an okay program striving to get to great. Personally, I’d like to see all the banners removed from Heinz field reflecting past Pitt greats because it just puts pressure on our current players. Let’s reserve homage for the “hall of fame.” It’s just my two cents. HTP! Great win! 🙂
Tailgating is part of the sport, be it NASCAR or football. I’d like to see all college football games played on Saturday’s but $$ talks as they say. Let’s give credit to the 10k+ fans who attended the game. HTP!
