The game notes for Buffalo-Pitt are out (PDF). More importantly, the 2-deep is in there (page 4).
Quick things worth noting, before this gets crowd-sourced and parsed to death.
The No. 2 QB is “Trey Anderson or Mark Myers” but with Anderson listed first on there, that is mildly surprising despite the praise in camp.
Probably an old format issue, but Hubie Graham is listed as both the starting Tight End and H-Back. Pitt’s cloning factory started with an Illinois transfer?
The Tailback spot goes five-deep. and there is an “or” after Zach Brown (2nd) to Isaac Bennett (5th)
The Fullback is redshirt freshman Mark Giubilato. Who?
At the Spur (Outside) Linebacker it is Andrew Taglianetti or Todd Thomas as the starter. Bit of a surprise.
The WILL LB is Max Gruder or Tristan Roberts. Sure it is.
At Defensive End, it is Aaron Donald or Justin Hargrove as the starter. Kind of surprised.
Big disappointment, Shayne Hale not on the 2-deep.
Ray Graham, to my relief, is not listed on the 2-deep at kick or punt returns.
Look at the Top 10 QBs in Bostick’s class (from Rivals):
1. Clausen: In the NFL
2. Mallet: In the NFL
3. John Brantley: Starting at UF, sturggled last year
4. Mike Paulus: Signed @ UNC now playing at William and Mary
5. Peter Lalich: Transferred, now at Cal (not the Berkley version)
6. Pat Bostick: Radio Broadcaster/Grad Student
7. Jarret Lee: Starting for LSU only b/c the starter kicked a guy in the head. Career back-up
8. Robert Marve: Part of UM scandal, at Purdue
9. Steven Threet: Out of the sport due to concussions
10. BJ Coleman: At Chattanooga now…
I bring this up b/c:
A) I am bored at work
B) It just goes to show rankings mean next to nothing. Out of the top 10 QBs in ’07, 2 are in the NFL, 2 are starters @ the D-1 level (one b/c of a suspension to the starter) and the rest did little to nothing.
That’s why Pitt fans (including myself) need to temper the enthusiasm for Voytik.
The Direct TV Sports Pack gives you all the former & current Fox Sports channels plus ESPNU and it gives you the YES Network & MSG and one of those or both carry the BigEast Game of the week, which at least last year usually had Pitt on. Here’s a link to check it out.
I agree with you, after Bostick was thrown in there as a true freshmen and mind you, quarterbacked the team to the famous 13-9 win over the Hoopies and then was thrown into one game,(only game he appeared in that year other than the one series he played in that infamous 0-3 Sun Bowl) when Stull was hurt the next year and again quarterbacked the team to a huge road win over Notre Dame. He was conveniently redshirted as a Junior (somewhat unheard of unless injured) and then politely told that he couldn’t compete for the starting job. Pat being a good kid and a real team player, kept his mouth shut and Pitt took care of him. That’s how things work in the real world.
A better way of describing Pat Bostick’s career at Pitt is: his promise wasn’t fulfilled. But he will always have a ‘special place’ in Pitt football lore.
I don’t doubt that if Gonzales was able to play and still at QB he’d be next after Anderson.
Before anyone panics Trey Anderson throws a real nice ball in addition to his rushing ability, at least that is what the videos of training camp have shown as well as staff reports.
In the first game Chad was 11 for 20 w/2 picks and about 120 yds., the second was 16-31 w/3 picks, 1td and 241 yds.
Beyond playing two great teams believe that two things come to mind as for the Cleveland team: 1) They have young running backs 2) Their o and d lines are struggling.
Will know better after Friday as they are playing a local team who is decent but not Alcoa or Knox Catholic calibre. The game is in Cleveland and it is tough to come in and win there.
