Apparently Iowa has this thing for football called “Color Games.” Given the color scheme of Iowa, I thought it might be some sort of bizarro alternate color unis or something else.
No. It’s just games that they announce that the fans should all wear one of the two colors. One game in black, one game in gold and one where the fans wear black or gold depending on the section they are sitting.
Iowa has announced which games are color games. The Pitt-Iowa meeting on September 17 is one of them. In a very nice way they honor and show respect to Pitt by making that “color game” the one a Pitt color.
Be Bold, Wear Gold
Iowa vs. Pittsburgh (Sept. 17)
The Hawkeyes will entertain the Pitt Panthers of the Big East Conference in their second home game of the 2011 season. The game will also be Iowa’s second non-conference game against a Bowl Championship Series team.
You just never can underestimate that mid-western friendliness. That’s the way to make a visiting team feel welcome.
first of the free agent signings … also expecting Hyno to sign soon
Just like last year, Utah, Miami and ND.
You can win and lose some conference games, you can whip up on some Div 1-aa teams, no one notices.
These three games are the ones the general college football fan across the nation will pay attention too. All too often we’ve crapped ourselves lately on national tv against the other BCS conferences and top teams from the next level conferences i.e. Utah.
Hoping for the fog to be lifted off Pitt football!!! I have an optimistic feeling, and will give Coach Graham several years to get his system and players in place, but, I have a good feeling.
In the future, it will be the same, if you want some respect, you have to beat some teams from the other BCS conferences. Hail to Pitt!!!
At Iowa will be tough, but, you’d hope we could pick off either Notre Dame or Utah, both at home. Would like to win one or even two of those three.
So, even saying just one. That’s 3 wins.
Then, you have 7 games in the Big East, don’t think it’s expecting too much to go at least 4-3 in the Big East if not better. There are seven wins being conservative. Not unreasonable.
Myself, I won’t even half to look at wins and losses. Walt and Dave had this, what I call, “the fog of Pitt” with them.
Looking perplexed as to what to do, what to call. Timeouts called in the opening series of offensive plays????? Kicking field goals on third down??? etc. etc.
So, what I’ll be looking at the most, is there a general, in charge of what’s going on, and moving the program in the right direction without the mass confusion.
Caveat, his system is new, and will be difficult to learn, so, you have to give him some time, and time to recruit his players. That is only fair and I think we all know that.
But, believe it or not by mid-October, I think we’ll have a sense of weather the “fog” has been lifted or not. Won’t necessarily be W’s and L’s!!
Some others may call my “fog” gauge by other names, the “WTF” gauge, the “Are you kidding me?” gauge, the “I can’t believe this sh#t” gauge, the “at least the beer is cold back at the tailgate” guage!!!
I do expect some helter skelter and keystone cops routines, with his system, I’m not a tyrant, but, 5 or 6 games in, regardless of W’s and L’s, I think we’ll know if we got a keeper!!
I’m just talking about a general feeling, and most of us will have a sense of it by mid season.
The college game seems much different these days (although Saban and Tressel are conservatives who just happened to have had overwhelming talent.)
The one caveat I have is that defense is still very important as evidenced by the the fact the dominant conference of late is the SEC which has shown great defenses over the last decade. You may recall the B12 of a few years ago that was scoring ridiculous numbers in conference but got pretty well dominated in the bowl games.
@wbb, good call, those offenses were fantastic, they scored 55 points a game, only problem, they gave up 56!!!!
@Dr. Tom , ha ha, ya, we all have a gauge!! My wifes is the “huh” gauge, and she adds a quizzical look to go with it!!
All kidding aside, I don’t think it’s poo-pooing from myself and others. Love the Carolinas, loved their stadium and the bars the night before. Great times.
Thinks it’s more going to the same place, and frankly, with me, as childish as this is going to sound, couldn’t stand the name. Meineke Car Care Bowl. Made me cringe.
Hey, I’ll go to Charlotte anytime for some Scotch and college football. I’m used to the drive, my sister lives 1/2 hour further south in Rock Hill, SC, can do it in my sleep!
