News of this started showing up on Monday. Yet another DB transferring to Pitt.
This time it is Brendon Felder from UNC.
Felder came out of Gateway High. He plays both WR and cornerback. He redshirted last year, but was a highly sought after recruit as Bryan runs down the recruiting rankings when he came out of high school.
The reason for his transfer is not the lack of playing time or some coaching turnover. It’s personal.
Former Gateway wide receiver Brendon Felder said he has left the University of North Carolina and will return home to help care for his ailing grandparents and enroll at Pitt.
“They are very important to me in my life,” Felder said Tuesday night while waiting to board an airplane for Pittsburgh. “My grandmother would take care of me when I was little and being close to home will enable me to focus (on college).”
Felder, 6-foot-0, 180 pounds, was redshirted last year during his freshman season at North Carolina. He said it was difficult to leave.
“I teared up a lot today,” he said of saying goodbye to his friends. “It was an emotional day. North Carolina was a place I grew to love.”
That is honorable of him, and I know everyone is hoping that he is able to help them.
On the selfish fanboy side, Felder is petitioning the NCAA for a hardship exemption so he can play right away at Pitt. That would provide some vital depth and competition this year in the secondary right away.
For those counting at home, that is the third transfer to Pitt. All of which look like they will be in the secondary. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but how about a linebacker or maybe an offensive lineman?
Final thought, is that despite the change of coaches, Pitt has had only one player leave the team (and one suspended player completely kicked out). There’s yet to be a transfer out of Pitt to another school at this point. Something I sort of have been expecting.
Any high octane/nitro type QB’s looking to transfer?
That we really need instead of anything else.
BTW, I heard Gibbs is headed to Europe if he doesn’t get drafted by NBA
Not taking a shot at you, but I found it humorous that you ended your post about not believing rumors with….. a rumor!
The more days that pass and the closer we get to summer training camp is good news regarding kids transferring out of PITT. Like Chas, I am also surprised we haven’t had any yet.
Texas Panther, I think you made some good points about Wanny’s recruiting. While he was able to recuit really good DL propects, he didn’t do so well on the OL (although Otah, Nix and Jacobsen were, but just not enough.) Same thing about DBs a couple of years ago and LBs recently. His last two classes (counting this past one that didn’t happen) were more balanced (2 good QBs and 3 good OLs last year and good WRs and LBs in the alleged 011 class), but his downfall was that the team just didn’t have good overall balance.
(Shady at RB, inexperienced frosh Bostick at QB);(Pinkston and Nix at tackles with walk-on Karabin at C), and (Romeus and Sheard at DE with the LBs and DBs they had last year).. all examples of the imbalance of talent.
